  1. The view yesterday reminded me of how much i love the area and the work i do. Todays job was to install 3 priority signs with multiple fingers. We put two posts in and asked BT if we could bolt the single finger to a telegraph pole. Not a problem.
  2. 3 bottles of Spitfire and 3 bottles of Old Empire tonight. Might not make it through all of them though.
  3. Hod and Hambledon Hills (2 miles), Bul Barrow (8 miles), Shaftesbury Abbey to name but a few local ones.
  4. Ah ok cheers guys for puttng my mind at ease. I havent noticed it before unless i am chipping brambles, gorse and the like.
  5. Has anyone seen this sort of reaction before after chipping Holly? Its only affected my softer skin on my arms and inside of my legs. Never had this sort of reaction before.
  6. Not a bad end to what has been a crap week. Decided to have a gurt burn up in the fire pit today. The wind was blowing the right way to start with but soon swung round and blew the wrong way but we decided not to stop but only loaded the clean burning stuff. Got an action shot of one of our apprentices loading a fork full of brambles into the fire. I also got a video of a large ball of brambles we through on. The pessimistic and sarcy comments are from a young lad who does nothing but rip the piss out of everyone and is doing a Level 2 Diploma in countryside management at a local agri college. He said it was ridiculous we had to burn up all the green waste we had collected anf stored over the year and why we didn't chip it all. He was also moaning about the ferociousness of the fire ha ha. I did ask if he would like a cold fire in the winter and also pointed out that the fire is only a small one in comparison to the monument fires.
  7. Ah ok. Yup Tarrant Rushton Airfield. I think the articulated trailer rig is the biggest and most powerful in the UK if i remember rightly. Its scary the size of stuff he puts through it. Nails, wire and all it all become little bits.
  8. Is this the man you are thinking of? Southern Wood Energy – Wood Pellets, Wood Fuel, Wood Chip He isnt based far from me and have seen his chippers in action at a local abandoned air field.
  9. Check out the size of these sloes. My younger colleague thought they were Damsons at first.
  10. Plains may be out of bounds but have a back up plan and a back up back up plan this time. Everyone will know nearer the time what we will be doing.
  11. Not a bad afternoons work. Its taken us two years to get round to doing it properly but our Rights of Way timber store is finally tidied up and sorted out. Its got a sign saying "Colditz" on the door. It will always been known as Colditz until we have to move out.
  12. Will be contacting a mate who beats at Ashmore and works in the Rushmore estates woods and see if i can get a slot for dad and i and our dogs. Surely they need dogs for the size of the covercrops on top of the valleys.
  13. Yes i know people will jump on my back for volunteering for the past 7 years with the same rangers team. But the way i look at it in the winter months, as long as someone is dragging branches to the chipper or to the fire, who cares. We are all different, you get some people who are built like Hulk Hogan and drag lots of big branches to the chipper and spends time loading the chipper, or you get a whippet who gets a rhythm going and drags small piles of branches to the chipper and as the branches go through walk back to get the next lot of branches. I have always been taught that, if you see a colleague flagging; have a break for 15 mins, let them catch their breath. Don't work them into the ground by 2.30 and ask why they are slowing down. Thats my two cents anyway.
  14. The final day of the boardwalk. Could have knocked it out in two days if the person organising the build had ordered enough timber and realized we could have got our trailer across the field:001_rolleyes:. Never mind glad to see the back of the farm for now. The bloke in the second pic is this years apprentice and he is a cracking bloke. I've met him and worked with him before and we can have a right laugh at work about anything and everything.
  15. Though about setting up a thread of pics of our shoot days throughout this season. So here it is. Wont be putting any pics up until the 19th Oct as thats the first day for me. Only got one shoot to beat on this season and two have folded. Bit of a long shot but do any Dorset folk know of any shoots short of beaters and dogs in the season?
  16. The wheels are in motion for the next green laning session. We have two dates in mind but will use the one day. We are out on either the 17th or 24. All being well we will be giving the plain a visit. PM me nearer the time if ya can make it.
  17. Did an alcohol test tonight for the Blackberry gin and whiskey. You know its the good stuff when the gin flames up for a split second.
  18. Ha ha good man. Sent a snotty yet informative email to wilts rights of way dept about the overgrowth. I await their response on Monday.
  19. Having steak for tea tonight. Had a bottle or two of abbot already lol
  20. Had a great day out witha friend called Martin. It was only two vehicles but was a good day out none the less. The rain overnight added a bit of mud and a few puddles but need about 2 weeks worth to get it just right. The usual lane we do "Ox Drove" was as per normal was very scratchy in places but the biggest disappointment was the water filled ruts which a few months back was full of water. Captions for the last pic. We met this old boy on the last byway of the day. Only the second person on 4 wheels we met today.
  21. Looks like Sallow/ Goat Willow. Salix caprea IMO
  22. Weather is ideal for tomorrow. Showers to keep the dust down and add a bit of mud in places, wind to dry the mud and blow any dust away and sun for the pics. Only got two vehicles out but should be a laugh. Same lanes, different day.
  23. End of play on day two. I am foobared. Lots of cutting of boards to length. One stile done in 1 hour 15 mins. The other done in 35 mins.
