  1. It was definately banging both ways which has got us thinking its a combination of valve and timing problems. The dealer is trying to find the clearances on the valves and also the timing.
  2. We currently have a very very unhealthy mower. Its got a 443cc Single cylinder Briggs and Stratton engine. It had an oil change last year after i accidentally put 2 glugs of chain oil into the sump but only had 5 mins of running before i realised. Do you think that may have something to do with it even though the system was flushed through and we had a new filter? I know from the last time it was banging through the carb it was down to a damaged venturi. But this time there was alot of soot/carbon deposits and oil splattered in the carb inlet. 3. Soon to have a Briggs n stratton engine on the workshop bench. It has developed a very bad running issue. It is almost as if there is a valve sticking issue or a piece of crud floating about keeping a valve open. It is fine on idle but on full throttle and with the blade engaged it is going for gold on the bad running front. 4. Already had a site break in but they have been escorted out of the county with reg numbers taken down. Installing the boulders tomorrow so slow them down even further. Upto 50 vans in the original break in site over the road from our yard. Its locked down tighter than a tight thing with 24 hour security on site.
  5. The boss worked out we have spent 3k in the past 18 months on repairs. So makes sense to buy a new one. Looking at a 740 bank commander model with the Yanmar deisel engine. We looked at the 18.5hp DR but the DR will only cut at one height and doesn't leave a very good finish which is what we are looking for on the rights of way network and heavier site work.
  6. 6 monthly inspection with free ones if strong gusty winds are forecast.
  7. Does this look like Chalara to you guys? Also have a coppice stool of Ash with the same looking leaves which i will get pics of at some point.
  8. Just been up on our biggest site coz of 6 suspicious vans around the main access gate. Two of them had angle grinders ready to go from a local hire centre that police were round at due to a break in and theft.
  9. Steam fair season is upon us in Dorset. Already got a large group (30 + vehicles) parked up in a piece of waste ground in Blandford. Right next to our council yard and within spitting distance of our biggest site. The local tractor dealer was putting his stuff away this afternoon and the local hire places were putting everything inside and locking it down.
  10. He worked for a town parish which encompassed 4 villages as well. His job was to keep the rights of way clear and to inform us of problems with the infrastructure. He didn't do that annoyingly and moaned when he was dragged in to plant pansies in the borders.
  11. He was but lasted about 3 months before he found the job wasn't what he was looking for n left. There is now an older gent doing the same job but as a standard lengthman.
  12. I was chatting to an ex TO now tree surgeon and he said its funny as the way to TO's are taught is that all fungi growing on trees are bad and any cavity, no matter how big or small warrants the tree to be felled. He thankfully has seen the light and now is saving more trees than felling. He saved a beech with G. lipense, it was a monster at the end of the garden and said to the land owner not to fell it but to just reduce the end weight off the lower hyper extended limbs. The tree is still going strong despite the 3ft deep cavity at the base.
  13. Thats what the TO wants but he aint getting it . Just wanted to see what response it got when i mentioned the T word. If he hadn't seen the cavity with the big bracket in it he would say monitor annually.
  14. Lol. Sorry mate was a bit of a stinging response i know. Bad day at the office. Was meant to a light hearted response but came out wrong. Brain says one thing. Fingers type something else.
  15. Who cares? It looked like a hi cap to me when i first looked at it. I can see now its a series 3 LWB. I couldn't see the leaf springs at first. Either way its how a farm landy is loaded.
  16. How a hi-cap should be used.
  17. We are now going to be biting the bullet. Going to be buying a brand new BCS with part ex for the old one as we have just blown a coupling, clutch and bearings on the flail roller. Going to be about 600 quids worth so going to get it fixed then look at buying a new one as parts for the old one are very difficult to get hold of.
  18. Will probably get an out of house tree surgeon in to do it. We have used a guy in the past to do reductions and thinnings. After the first growing season after the work you couldnt tell if the work had been done on a couple of them. How much do you think we could get away with out of the top? We are thinking 2 metres all round with a 10% thin within the canopy.
  19. Although you say chemicals are out of the question. What about using ecoplugs in the stump?
  20. How rare is it to find a holly of this girth? Its at Chettle just up the byway about 150 metres up from Eastbury farmhouse.
  21. Trouble is its a 9 year old machine so the majority of the parts have changed. Its a pain as the older parts are becoming more and more difficult to find now. May bite the bullet and buy a new one.
  22. What ya recon to this Tony? Our TO has said he would like to see the tree on the deck in the winter due to its "major structural weakness" caused by the internal cavity, the internal large bracket and bracket on the outside. Needless to say it will be standing next winter and the winters after that, until it lets go on its own accord.
  23. Who's getting the champers on ice? Cracking game and all done and dusted on Day four. Broad was fantastic. I recon he will win man of the series.
  24. A mixture of both i think. Got some plum and damsons which are heavily laden but the Gold and greengage are very light this year at the moment.
