  1. Close the door on your way out then... Why the song and dance? Just don't log it, simple.
  2. No problem on an oldish Mac here. But then one never gets this kind of riff raff on a Macintosh
  3. Locate a Mobile Phone Online? ? Your Questions Answered ? Kno-Where Quick overview. As I suspected, triangulation is not much cop out in the sticks. And if your leaving a GPS smartphone with better accuracy in the machine, why not just buy a proper GPS tracker?
  4. Bad I'd say- they're over ten years old already.
  5. You can buy them no trouble. Lots of companies do them. What it will lift depends upon the size of machine. Mine is a 1.5 ton but a powerful one. As the grab doesn't close up into itself like a normal grapple you can only hold three or four bits, but with a single piece the machine will tell you when it's too much! You'll throw 12" diameter 12' lengths around no problem. It will lift much larger but with care! You get used to knocking the timber round so the lack of rotation is not a limitation for me. I'm only about 20 miles down the 272 from you, your welcome to come have a play
  6. Don't you lot remember their first attempt, complete with cartoons? http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/firewood-forum/34986-coppice-stove.html
  7. As has been said, the higher the better. I don't know how those of you who stick the saw in a slotted stump then support the engine with your knees a) do a decent filing job and b) stand up agin afterwards! And I'm still young thank you very much!
  8. Oh, and try squishing a sultana onto the pin of the trap- I've only had it nicked twice in the last month, and had over a dozen confirmed mouse kills. Lately I've been running through a litter of young rats in the bigger trap- they're easy as they're still dumb!
  9. Can you triangulate the signal yourself?
  10. Picked up a Nokia Asha 300 a few days ago, well pleased. It's got everything I wanted- buttons, voice memos, MP3 player and a decent camera. Not too poncey, dropped it three times already and still working. All for £50! My first semi-smart phone Did my research and thought the C2-01 was the phone I needed, luckily the geek in the shop suggested this with an extra 2 megapixels for a tenner more. Camera seems plenty good enough, these are scaled down but still better quality than the old iPod could manage.
  11. The best system is an alarm which runs off the mobile phone network, and can alert you and/or a security guard to any suspicious activity. CCTV is no use unless you want a grainy video of them dragging your chipper out with balaclavas on. Gsm security alarm, mobile alarms, mobile alarm systems, gsm alarms, burglar alarm, intruder alarm, boating equipment, yacht equipment, home protection Not a fancy website but Gerry knows his stuff and is super helpful. Best thing I ever bought is our alarm system. About £500 all in including four sensors and fitting, and it works a treat. Set and disarm it via text message. The only running cost is the sim card which you choose- just find the best deal you can to get the number of texts you think you will use in a month. No expensive monitoring contract, no waiting for the police to pull their finger out. It texts you, rings you to wake you up, then off you go to kick some ***** butt
  12. Traps and poison, and shoot if your feeling in the mood/can be arsed. Come down on them like a ton of bricks ASAP.
  13. Not here it doesn't. There is some Romanian tosser hawking it beside the pelican crossing most days. Help British first and foremost, any immigrants who don't want to work should be deported.
  14. How much modification does an engine need to run on that???
  15. Well if your not in work ATM and the jobcentre will pay for tickets, then youve nothing to use but be prepared to work your arse off or start up on your own and work every hour God sends. If your in a job ATM, I sure as hell wouldn't do it.
  16. I've said it before, but nobody seemed to take any notice. If you gum a pump up with veg oil, solvents won't work. The secret is to run near boiling water through it. Think about it- the oil has emulsified. Same as boiling chip fat having been poured down a drain then setting and clogging it up. I know, I'm a genius.
  17. If he's putting 3.5 tons behind a quad bike, he's an idiot in my book. That just aint gonna stop in a hurry, if at all. Plus accelerating and braking it is putting a lot of stress on a machine only rated to tow 680KG. The Sportsman 850 weighs 350kg, plus driver. You really want to chance your arm on that being enough weight to knock the overun brakes on with 3.5 tons behind you? Your nuts. Compact diesel tractor would be a far better bet, with LGP tyres if neccesary. I tried my 500cc quad in the woods, and it was no use for pulling even half a ton of timber trailer- you just can't get the traction to the ground. It's not rocket science- they're designed to be low ground pressure personal transport. Why people think they're ideal for pulling 1/2/3 tons is beyond me Catweazel, the 680 tow capacity is for the biggest quad on the UK market, the Sportsman 850 and I don't think you'll find a 3.5 ton trailer that weighs that empty. Steve- no, you were right. Wouldn't have a snowballs chance in hell, and would also be a very expensive, juicy and nickable way of trying to shunt trailers. Much better to get an old tractor.
  18. Your mate is a suicidal retard if he's pulling a 3.5 ton trailer, and if its on the road then I sincerely hope he gets booked. You wouldn't put anything like 3.5t behind a Corsa, and that weighs more than the quad. Back to the OP, how did you get on Sam? We had the volunteers working on one of the reserves recently and their 400cc 4WD Yammaha with a tiny trailer just couldn't find the traction to get up the hill. Did you experience similar or was it OK?
  19. Yeah, I remember that. I've got about ten times the amount in that picture at the yard. Great firewood but a bitch to split, so it tends to get left until there's absolutely nothing else left to log. Even then it will make more than selling to 'craftsmen'
  20. Here here What about Robinia? With it's fast growth, prolific reproduction, very desirable timber qualities, not to mention the nitrogen fixing abilities, why are we not seeing this as a hedgerow / coppice tree?
