  1. Did you measure the crate beforehand? Something's not right there.
  2. It works well but the tips blunt quickly. When is someone going to bring out a carbide tipped version?
  3. 'Carlube' chain oil from the local motor factors, approx £12 for 5l. I make a phone call, and it turns up in the yard the same day.
  4. Are the logs seasoned and relatively dry? Then relax knowing that you paid below market rate for them.
  5. That's STACKED volume. NOBODY sells wood by the stacked volume. This has been posted here before, it might help.
  6. I'm fed up for the same old tit for tat. What I want to know is, what feels best for me? And to do that I have to try both, side by side, in the working environment. So....... who's up for a big ol ArbTalk meet up, where we all bring along saws, strimmers and hedgecutters, and have a play with each others? From the big brands to the little brands that keep getting recommended, but that you would never be able to get a dealer to demo you. We could do something on a nature reserve, or maybe in the grounds of a charitable organisation? Perhaps even some larger machines, I'd bring my digger along if it wasn't too far to travel. Goes without saying that we'd need Big J on the gate to keep the gypos out
  7. I sell 250 logs for £10. Mind you, they are a bit on the small side.
  8. Big blade is for the FS550 but ignore your dealer if he tells you it won't work. FS450 is more than man enough, I ran it on an FS400 with no issues at all. Momentum is all you need, then just tickle the throttle.
  9. You will not get better value for money than Wolf. Air Compressors | Wolf Air | UKHS.tv I do question their marketing stratgegy (used to be distributed by Screwfix and are often shown on the home shopping channels) but nothing else comes close spec for price. Many of them come with accessory kits which are also good quality. I still have the original tyre inflator and spray gun from my first one. I've had a six litre one for seven years now and it still runs fine. My main workshop compressor is a 3HP 50l model and still going strong after five years. The hose reels and the like are also top quality. Compressors and hoses come with the German quick release fitting as standard, which allows greater airflow and doesn't leak like the normal type. Worth noting that Wolf have not put prices up significantly for a long time now. I wouldn't buy anything else.
  10. Go with the biggest blade and make sure you get the guard with four mounting holes, not three. You will need to buy them separately, not as a kit.
  11. My gut feeling tells me that this is an awkward customer who will want everything perfect and not want to pay proper money.
  12. Did one a few years back, parts were almost £100 then. Robbing bastards.
  13. Look back the the earlier models- Stihl have just added an extra number, the '1' in '241' designating the next generation. Odd/even still stands AFAIK. I started my company with a borrowed 023, so have a soft spot for them. That said, I would go the whole hog and go for an MS251. Make sure you stick to Picco Micro chain, preferably in 1.1mm gauge. That will fly. As mentioned, stay away from the C-BE models. Don't know much about the catalytic convertor, I assume it's just more to go wrong. The B is quick chain tensioning, which works as well as a sieve does to drink from. The E is Ergostart which works well, but unless you have a disability you really don't need it.
  14. I agree with you re good conditions for staff. I've spent a small fortune kitting out the old milking parlour. Kitchen, coffee machine, log burner, clothes racks. Off to the yard now, early start today and the first thing I will do is make myself brekkie! Scrambled egg with cheese I think. I prefer to eat at yard. Food and the first coffee of the day give me motivation to get down there! My staff are both ex farm, as am I. Don't want to get too fancy now! Anything is luxury compared to your average farm.
  15. I'd love to have a play with a 545, I like the look of them.
  16. Really? I have an ex rat infested cowshed (well, milking parlour). Solved the rat problem by adopting two cats. I can think of 1001 better things to spend 28k on! As someone said, it's nothing but a protection racket.
  17. Might as well pay the little bit extra and go for the FS-460. Engines are awesome. Clutch housing as On Foot shows is warranty, they sorted mine. This thread may help you. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/general-chat/26020-new-stihl-strimmers-i-didnt-think-they-could-improve-them-so-much.html For the record, they run the biggest Stihl mulching blade fine. Don't know why they bother making the smaller one, momentum is 3/4 of the battle and once you've got it going you only need to tickle the throttle to keep it there.
  18. I was going to ask the exact same question. Perhaps the question should be 'Husy 135 or Stihl 181 or Husky 236, as they all seem to be about the same level. I compared the two on paper, and I have to say that Stihl has the edge on weight and vibration, so I shall be staying with MS181s. The last two I bought though do seem a touch cheaper, I think the needle bearing is on the way out in one (after only six months!) Weight is key for me with these saws as they are the type I keep on machines, and I can't justify an MS-150 for that!
  19. Update. It's proved more than man enough to run a 12" 1.1mm polesaw head. Only got stuck in the cut on big stuff a couple of times, easily done with a sharp chain on a polesaw. It did come loose in the clamp. I copied the cut out in the tube from the flexi drive one that came with it, and that cured it. I then realised that I'd only tightened two out of four bolts on the integrated handle, so that was most likely the problem. Faultless today. It's a joy to use in a MEWP, and the ErgoStart is handy in this instance. I don't think you would need more power (FS130 levels for instance) on any Stihl combi tool, except for strimming. I have proper clearing saws for that however. Will be interesting to see how it handles a telescopic shaft section. I can't see the extra shaft length causing too much extra drag, any thoughts?
  20. Despite all the hate on 4-mix (deserved hate I might add) this thread seems to have died a death- however it will certainly help you. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/general-chat/62516-heads-up-god-replacement-engine-stihl-polesaws-pole-hedgcutters-combi-units.html Top tip- Stihl kit makes insane money on eBay. Sell the old 4-mix engine mounted on the new shaft from the FS-70 after swapping them over- just tell the punters it's an FS-130 or whatever with a brand new shaft, they'll go nuts for it.
  21. A chipper is not that expensive. What makes you think it's worth any more than a digger and driver? Just because it's 'arb?' if you can get £400 a day go for it. If your business model revolves around getting that and it sitting in the yard (not wearing out) most days, then that's awesome. However, £250 a day sounds reasonable in a lot of the country, especially when paying the finance on your first one. Just know when to chop it in for a new one.
  22. Like clockwork.... "My husband is selling the item, in order to purchase it please contact him at : [email protected] , include the item title for a fast reply, Thank you" Then... "Hi, My name is Ravid Darl, I work as a flight sergeant in the Royal Air Force, I have recently been transferred to a new military base in Scotland but you don't have to worry because will use a fast and reliable cash on delivery service (PayPoint) , this way you will have the opportunity to try the item first. Let me know if you're interested to use this service. Cheers Ravid Darl Flight Sergeant" Someone else do this then tell him you're in Scotland! Meanwhile I'll carry on stringing him along.
