  1. Sounds suss to me. In all honesty we would have to charge a days labour (unless we could tie it in with something else) plus cost of materials. So about £200 all inc
  2. As I sufferer, and completely anti most medications, I used to struggle on. I then read an article about a bee's wax product that you smear around your nostrils. I thought yer right, what a load of tosh. Anyhow, last year I gave it a go and it seemed to work surprisingly well- I put it round my snout and on my cheeks under my eyes. Its meant to form a barrier to catch the pollen... Anyhow, I'll speak as I find, and I will be using it again this year. Product link
  3. You may find the below interesting reading- copied from the Planning Portal Planning Permission You will need to apply for planning permission if you wish to erect or add to a fence, wall or gate and: it would be over 1 metre high and next to a highway used by vehicles (or the footpath of such a highway); or over 2 metres high elsewhere; or your right to put up or alter fences, walls and gates is removed by an article 4 direction or a planning condition; or your house is a listed building or in the curtilage of a listed building. the fence, wall or gate, or any other boundary involved, forms a boundary with a neighbouring listed building or its curtilage.
  4. Ah the Chung Hwa
  5. Not excusing poor treatment, but the rails will only generally be UC3 treated i.e. not intended for ground contact. Hence the reason why they are even less well treated than posts..
  6. Very easy to do using Money Claim online (certain criteria have to be met) Chances of actually getting any money at the end of it, even if you are successful, very slim..
  7. Thats correct- once you register as a main contractor i.e. paying subbies (who will also now have to be CIS registered if the work falls under the scope) then you will have to file monthly returns regardless If you only register as a CIS sub-contractor then no monthly returns needed. Employee's do not fall under CIS payment scheme (although the Co will still be subject to stoppages). If you dont want the extra aggro could you only register as a sub contractor ?
  8. We are registered as both Main contractors and sub-contractor under the CIS scheme. Do you have any employee's or do you use self employed sub-contractors? PM me if you want
  9. Yep thats about it. I work out cost of materials, cost of labour and then add the profit we are looking for. This total cost is then the number that goes on the quote. On the quote is also listed the materials, the spec and the scope of the work but there is no breakdown into the old material and labour scenario.
  10. Personally we don't put any mark up on materials these days. All our quotes clearly break down exactly what materials and type of installation the customer is getting/; but the figure given is a total and there is no breakdown into materials and labour elements.
  11. That'll be your problem. The electroplated or passivated nails do streak; even the hot dipped galv ones do. The best ones we have found have been the genuine paslode ones called Galv Plus or GalvGuard
  12. What nails are you using?
  13. Is this for Ltd Co or sole trader? VAT returns, payroll etc to complete or just self assessment? Have you thought about using an accountant remotely? We have been using one this way for last 3 years and they have been great. Send me a PM if you want more info
  14. If you were knocking with decent set up then I would agree with 100m/day for a 2-man team (56 posts in and railed). But augering and back filling is much more time consuming:biggrin: We have just done a load and averaged out at 40 posts/day for a 2-man team. So 72 metres/day. Hope that helps
  15. Roger - the podger (tamper) Rick - the stick (measuring stick) Neville - the level Hetty - the machette I could go on, but yes all the tools are named (digging holes all day can get a bit boring )
  16. I'm afraid a book-keeper wont be able to tap up your quotes for you, order spares/materials, organise repairs etc. We send monthly records to an accountant and would love to only spend 4 hrs a week on the stuff you mention
  17. Awful thing to catch. Had it last year- whole family had it in the space of three days. House was not a nice site with 5 of us yakking up all over the place- especially when three of those five are under six years old. Christ I hope we dont get it over the xmas break..
  18. We need some welding doing fairly urgently- nothing major, I would estimate about 1 hrs work all in. Does anybody have any recommendations for either someone or a firm in/around Ely or Cambridge?
  19. Sorry to jump in, and excuse my ignorance, but can someone enlighten me as to what on earth "stickers" are...
  20. " Going down Blackpool,...alright for a fight..."
  21. Not Arb related but I love the Pimlico Plumbers vans- they are all kitted out with memorable plates directly related to their work Have a look Pimlico Plumbers | Number Plates | 'Our Cherished Plumbing Related Number Plates.' I like : 1 Bog LOO 2 LOO W4TER ect
  22. He means make the actual fence out of larch wood.....
  23. What sort of fencing is it? You are going to need a few different tools depending on the job i.e. tools for close board or stock fencing are going to be somewhat different. My advice would be by the correct tool(s) when the job its needed for comes up...
  24. Also very dependent on the number of strainers and turners you are having to put in. Putting a load of them on by hand will cut your meterage down somewhat!! 90m by hand through a crappy site sounds good to me
  25. Thats right on my doorstep so will keep em peeled. Any more details?
