in the market for a kombi type tool... Which one?
mowandgo replied to Bigfellers's topic in Chainsaws
I have a Husqvarna 327 kombi. Its fanastic revs realy nice the strimer and short hedge cutter are awsome very low vibs. I have gone back too stihl as local dealer is very good. The closest Husqvarna dealer whats worth going to is miles away. The pull start broke and the throtle cable snaped this is fine as its done lots of work I just got anoyed with it stopping me working and driving around waiting for parts. With Stihl my dorstep dealer is on it and I guess thats why every one has a Stihl! -

in the market for a kombi type tool... Which one?
mowandgo replied to Bigfellers's topic in Chainsaws
Exactly a 4 mix unit is like £450 a FS-94 is £310 for a strimmer. Also a FS-94 weighs 4.5kg and a 4 MIX weighs 5.5kg. For me that is over priced and very over weighted. I have owned 3 4 MIX combis they all had same trouble, Heavy, Hard to start, Bent Valves, Leaky Breathers, Rough rev range peak revs to low, High vibes and Makes stupid noise. I thought I might be biast but after going back to a 2 stroke I can see just how bad they are. -

Just bought a Stihl FS-94 its a strimmer but I just undo the two torx bolts on the Hedge Cutter, Pole Saw and Strimmer to sawp them over it could not be easier. After using a stihl kM 100r 4 MIX I Started to think very poorly of Stihl. Being two stroke the FS-94 is light, starts easy, revs smoothly. Every thing the 4 MIX Is not. I would highly recommend the FS-94. Time has yet to tell its durability! -
Ha Ha I have been told multiple times by people with more experince than me to get an accountant I guess tha means I need an accountant. I have heard theres alot of cowboy accountants out there like any trade so a good one is worth every pennie and a bad one is like **** in the bed. Dobin can I have the number of your accountant sounds like a gooden and the year round advice is what would be very helpful.

I have a fairly small turnover and I think £250 for an accountant is not realy going to save that much. I understand the tax banding ie 10k there is no tax and its 20% for upto 32k after. But what is an asset? All my assets depriciate if i put neat unleaded in my stihl fs460 it goes from being worth £400 to £0. My mate had a turbo over run and blew his engine if that happens to my van its worthless. How can tools be assets? The next I have trouble understanding is if you get a £500 tax bill does that mean you could of bought a MS260 or 560XP that year instead of buying tax? I guess you have your gross turnover and you subtract your expenses which gives you your net and the higher you expenses the better. I do struggle with figureing it out but alot of people i speak to do aswell. Thanks guys its getting clearer slowly lol.

Just completed my tax return from April 2013 to April 2014. I did it D.I.Y. no accountant. I have a very good spreedsheet what i keep an acurate record of income and outgoings. This makes every aspect of running my little business much easyer. In previous years my mother was my accountan and caused lots of family arguments and put me in the dark about the running of my business. Now iam D.I.Y. things are much better I can see exactly what I need to be charging for jobs, who owes me money, how much van & machinery costs ect. The point iam trying to get too is all though I fully understand all the figures I submitted on tax return I do not understand how they calculate it all I have done some reading online and asked friends with small businesses but keep getting vauge over complex ansewrs. I think this subject will be very useful to any one submiting an on line tax return.

I found low reving engines like 4 strokes work best on lawnmowers and rotorvators where speed is steady and torque is in demand. Strimming, Hedge Cutting and Timber Cutting is all about speed & high revs which is where 2 strokes win. I might be wrong but I thought 2 strokes have higher torque than a 4 stroke the difference being 4 stroke torque peaks at low revs and a 2 stroke peaks at high and has little to give low to mid range revs.

I think cutting grass all year round is much healthier for the lawn as long as its not frosty. Also when you first start in March its usally qutie thick a job to cut and without regular mowing the first cut can look awful! I allways like to cut as many times a year as possible. If you maintain a hiegth above 2" and maybe 2.5" in Winter and dont cut in frost you cant go wrong!

What effects does an incress rpm on a chainsaw/strimmer/blower actualy have? Surley the powebands factory set so over rpm will be less eficent. Also does it wear engine out considarbly quicker? The machines I use I love high rpms I think they cut so much better on any machine hedge cutter, strimmer, saw. But thats factory out the box surley after higher revs after mod would have bad side effects and need lots of compensating?

Until your in that situation you dont know what you will be thinking or do. It could happen to any one. I deal with lots of honest customers so you build a alot of confidents with dealing with people so when a con man shows up you have no reason to doubt them otherwise we would have to judge every customer as scum unless they prove otherwise. The scum know we natrualy trust people and play on it. Its only when they make mistakes you smell a rat. Just be careful it could happen to any one of us. Paper trail is good but very time consuming so on smaller jobs probly not worth it or you would be spending more on ink than fuel!

The best lesson ever had for taking responcibilty for my mistakes with machineary maintenance was buying my own. When you have to buy the saw, fuel, oil, chain, bar, filters ect. You soon learn how to get the most bang for your buck.

Most polite and efficient way to chase late payment.
mowandgo replied to mowandgo's topic in Business Management
I do not have a payment by time on my invoice. I Also do a months system so I will type and send last months invoices at begining of next. I do not often do quotes as I mainly do hedge cutting and contract mowing alot of the time same jobs every year or week with mowing. I need to be hotter. The more time late you allow the hardder it becomes. When I ask for an explanation I get allsorts of answers. The accountants very behind, The Wife/Husband having trouble finding cheque book. I have not been to the bank. They froze my account, Cant find your invoice did you send it? Just paid the builders. Washing machines gone bang this week. They have stopped my bonus. it never ends. Lol -
There are customers and customers. Some give you cash at the end of the instant payment easy everybody happy could not ask for better business. At the over end of the scale there is the ones that you send invoices and invoices until eventually they pay this is awkward time consuming and hurts cash flow. At times you wonder where all the money is and you sit and do the maths to find out you have done well however the late payers is where its at. The good regular paying customers compensate for the late ones. I send invoicing out once a month and try to be as organised and regular as I can. One of my weaknesses calling the customer and asking for money I feel awkward doing it and not really sure on a good firm polite approach. From the reading I have done on the net Its a problem many small businesses have up and down the country I am sure you guys have had many experience in this and you always have some great answers.

How to adjust Hi/Low Screws on Husqvarna 125 Blower
mowandgo replied to mowandgo's topic in Landscaping
I am self taught with mechanics i used to have lots of motorcycles before i bought a house and had a little boy. I have never had any isues with weak runing and do not know which way ( clock/anticlockwise makes it rich or lean. I do not know weather they shut off fuel or air. I am sure i will learn from the next post. -
My KM100 would not hold revs a bitch to start and fuel would fill the air filter via the tank breather. I change the little breather for like £6. It never fixed the untit being too heavy and hard to start and 2 stroke machine beating its perfomance but did make it rev & run better. My Husqvarna 327 combi wins every time!

How to adjust Hi/Low Screws on Husqvarna 125 Blower
mowandgo replied to mowandgo's topic in Landscaping
Hi i used the blue electrical connector methord to great sucsess. I do find hi/low screws need adjusting like every 3 to 6months on most 2 stroke oil burning machines. I just tweak the low so tick over peaks and hi so it peaks a full revs. I find this sucsesful and engines go that much better. Thanks for all the posts would not have done it with out them! -
How to adjust Hi/Low Screws on Husqvarna 125 Blower
mowandgo replied to mowandgo's topic in Landscaping
Well i think thats realy silly its as important as replacing an air filter or adjust a chain. And its worse for the enviroment as its running rich. I purchased from F.R. Jones who I have had no trouble but iam not wasting half a tank of diesel and an afternoon to take it back. Also its my only blower and a I dont want to post it. Slot screws wonder if you can have it modified? Are all new tools going this way? What ever next fixed possition spark plugs? -
Hi guys gotta Husqvarna 125 Blower nice bit of kit. I have had it like 3 months from new and its hard to start sometimes it bogs down and smokes alittle. Classic sings of running too rich so normaly I would adjust the Hi Low Screws which I do frequantly on all my machines usally with great sucses! However for some reason which makes no sence to me what so ever the screws are like a spline with a narrow metal wall. Its simply no good to man or beast as I dont have or know any one with a tool what fits them. So iam stuck with a potentialy great blower what runs a bit rich and iam sure thats bad for the enviroment that i cant adjust. What was every wrong with a slot screw?

Or an alterntative is oregon jet head with four nylon strimmer line. Its what i run on my FS460 you can put most strimmer line in it. At the moment iam running Stihl 3.3mm square. I like nylon line because it mulches very well and its very forgiving if you hit a piece of masonary or metal tubing what you usaly find under brambles. Farmers like to dump old feeders & gates in the undergrowth and metal blades dont like it. Also for speed on grass you can just run two. Four slows you down more but breaks much less so is ideal for brambles brush ect.

If I was dissapointed with the Husqvarna the Stihl FS-94 would be my first choice of replacement. Its the combi out the box and short shaft hedge cutter attachment which makes the Husqvarna so attractive. The Stihl dealers are more comon and replacement parts are easy & quick to buy. The Local Husqvarna dealers are very unhelpful the 10 mile away dealers are much better but the stihl dealers i drive past everyday are great. I like the combi as they cover all my hedge cutting needs my light strimming and pole saw. I can have two engines to run the lot. Pole saw i do not very often but hedge cutter and strimmer iam just working them hard all the time so having two engine units is great for back up like if the pull start breaks ect.

I used to have a 2009 Stihl BR600 i just sold it done a fair amount of work. I it did blow some but i find it heavy and akawrd for my work i do alot of mowing and hedge cutting i used a echo hand held blower it was light with plenty of puff easy to start the stihl back pack locked solid on starting somtimes. A hand blower ideal for my work so i bought a husqvarna 125 B light easy to start lots of puff pick it up and blow so easy uses very little fuel. I also found a hand blower great for getting fires going, cleaning gutters and drying off machinary after power washing. Any one else found a blower useful for other tasks?

I would like to add its a complette myth a stihl 4mix is more economical it uses very simalar amounts of fuel as a 2 stroke. If 4 mix strimmer and 2 stroke husqy strimmer running 4 mix will usally dry up first. I know husqy is 25cc and 4mix like 34cc but the 2 stroke has more power and lighter!

Husqvarna HA 110 Hedge Cutter Attatchment Maintenance
mowandgo replied to mowandgo's topic in Landscaping
After playing about i managed to figure it out and its running & cutting very well. I tighted the top nut againts thread on bar but it seemed to pinnch on bottom washer & bolt. I just backed off the bottom bolt alot more and tightend last. Each bottom washer moves and touches bar and bolt cutter bar moves very freely. Jobs a gooden Thanks Garden Kit!
