Does dual or single wheel axel make much difference to mpg? I ocasonaly take heavy loads its mainly tools & vegatation cuttings i carry. Noticed most swb have single wheel axel & mwb & lwb are dual.

I see lots of ivecos on tow or recovery. A shame as the are good looking trucks. Iam currently looking for a cabstar or dyna. I Transit tipper's are everywhere & just dont do it for me. I like the alternitive jap trucks. They are reasonably priced too. The only other bad point is there is not much area for sign writing. Have to think of an other way.

I have been looking Nissan Cabstars & Toyota Dyna for my next vehicle. I want to switch from van to pick up. I currently have a Peugeot Boxer 2.2HDI. I was looking at a pick up version but they are rare. The Japenesse ones apeal to me as I like there lorrie look , have a great reputation for reliabilty, great shape for turning on driveways & yards & simple engieering. I have read reports of cramped interior & driving position. I know transits are beter for being comfy but i'd rather have a rough ride to work than a comfy tow to the mechanic ( never been a transit fan ). I would like to here peoples experience with them & see the word on the street!

Personaly i would chose Husqvarna as the Stihl uses a 4-mix which I dislike. Although I realy like Stihl 2-mix machines. 2 strokes are much beter for lots of reasons 2 main ones being more power & lighter weight. I use two hand blowers for big leaves one in each hand. I find you have more control & a broader spread 60cc of 2 stroke power. You do get arm ache 9kg acording to the book.

Ha Ha Give it a tug, Blow me, Slide the jonny on. All part of my dialect at work. Only effects those with a filthy mind lol. About the mower being light has such an advantage i would never ask it to mow a big lawn but the smaller lawns its ideal. Just have to wait for a rainy day see what it does in wet.

After recent damp weather my current mower setup was just awful in the wet I would rather strim as it gave a better finish & was quicker. I wanted a light simple easy to use mower which was powerful enough to deal with long grass. I bought this Viking MB248. I have only used it for a few hours no drive but its so light 26kg you dont know your pushing it. Realy easy to pick up off the ground you can swing it above your head. It goes through thick damp grass and throws it in box no fuss. Simple controls you just give it a tug & your going. The only complant so far is grass box is crap only place to hold in to it + you have to put you hand in to get grass out. I will keep you posted.

Stihl FS94 D loop is my current faviort strimmer. Its light powerful & fast. Economical runs realy nice easy to start. I took the gaurd blade off what decides the length of line I just cut it with secatears to desired length. Also I shove the hedge cutter or pole saw on end as I cant be F'd with combi for the sake of two screws & two minute change. 25cc 1.2hp 4.5kg & 750ml tank.

I would sugest a FS460 very versitle under £700 new it will get on any bank you can stand up on no belts or tires to puncture or break. Stores away easy. With the right cutting setup i bet it would not be far behind a 4x4 mower. I find it quicker than a honda um 616 mower. Also any hiden old troffs or machineary nylon line will just bounce off. I have spent many happy hours brushcutting with one of thesse 2 acres is achiveable in a day depending on trearain & thicknes of vegatation. One of my customer has a small 4wd drive kubota witha 4" rotary mower. He sooner sends me round with the FS460 & theres a few acres of rough vegatation.

My van 2.2 peugeot boxer lwb van is having a starter motor fitted. While in the garage i had the use of father in laws 1986 defender 110 pick up. I used it for hedge cutting and was very pleased with the ease of loading ladders, tools & cuttings. Only taking what i need for the booked work that day ment all tools where easly acesble and it went back all clean. It takes an age to clean my van in & out. Being a land rover it was great fun to drive to and easy to revers & manorver on driveways. Never used a pick up for work before & allways had vans. I am looking at new replacing my van soon. I am now considering tipper next i take away alot of cuttings. The clear dissadvantages of a tipper are tool exposure & sign writing. All though my van is heavily scrathced due to county lane driving which would not ocour on a tipper. I would like to here from some body who has had both van & tipper also i do 5% off road miles a year so 4x4 with small space and jap ones have just 2 cab seats much higher mpg i only desire transit shape tipper.

For me a LWB van. I could not take all my tools with me any other way. 2x 21 mower, 2x ladders, 2x strimmer 1x fs460, 2x chainsaws, hedge cutters, wolf garten rake & weeding tools, graft, spades, socket set tool box, tubs of fuel & oil, builders bags & 90L dustbins. I am sure theirs more. Set out in the morning I can usually do what ever i am asked with all the tools and remove quite a few cuttings. I am used to a van and could not deal with less than 3.5 meter load floor. I have 3 seats which is enough. The restrictions are hard to load lose materails like compost or top soil & turf. Hard to remove large amounts of fencing or tree cuttings after all the skys the limit with a pick up. I also find 4wd piss poor. When I have used it on land rovers ect before I find it makes an awful mess and digs a big axel deep hole to bury its self when stuck. I have found hardcore & type 1 the best answer to accesses in the yard. Also what puts me off with 4x4 is I have a mate with a nissan navara he uses it as car and only gets 25mpg this thing is full of computers. I know of 200tdi that does 25mpg no computers. My van does 34mpg. This works for me & my set up. I would guess I get more in my cab than a back of a double cab pick up.

Are the batteries up to the job? Can you keep going all day like petrol? How many battiers chargers do you need? I here storys of cells dying in batteries making them useless & at £120 a go its a bit steep. Also how about charge points what do you do when customer is out? Or cutting in the woods? Stihl spec also states with battery HS56 ( petrol ) lighter than HSA ( battery ). I think if they were lighter, as poweful & longer battery life with shortter charge time they could compete with petrol. I think its a few years off. I am loving my HS56 & FS94 the new 2 stroke stuff is lighter & powefuler than ever. I also find it uses little fuel comperd to predessesor. The stratified charge system works very well.

The shape of the deck is bumpy and it has cavitys for which reasons I dont know. It mulches in the wet more than collects evern with chute open. The distance between blade tip & grass bag mouth is both steep & far. I think this is about room for hydro box. With or without bag it kind of mulches a bit comes up the chute most goes round the deck. This behavior is not on damp or moist grass its fine on that. This is on hammering down with rain soaked grass. I never do much mowing in thesse condiotions so its not a great issue it will get by in wet.

I am realy enjoying my honda hrx 537 awsome mower best I have ever had. Big Wheels, Fantastic Hydro Drive, Light manovorable, mulching or collect at flick of a switch, powerful, fast, reasonably good mulching, fantastic collect brims big grassbox it actally makes mower too heavy. It has a 4"/100mm hieght it is pretty good in long grass & rough ground. Never missed a beat & its done alot of work. Does a good quality cut too it ant no pre 2005 hayter 56 but more than exeptable for 4 wheels. The only dissadvantages are plasticy build & strugles in the wet. I can put up with that as its so good in every over way. Will buy another.

First arb vehicle - van or truck? New or used? Buy or lease?
mowandgo replied to Shipwrecked Bones's topic in Arb-Trucks
I think vehicles are very expensive what ever you do. The second hand market I find high price for comercial vehicles. You can get a 1998 peugeot 106 with long mot for £150 bargin. There isa 1998 raty rough worked hard hilux on ebay for £2250 and it has coverd 200,000 miles. I find comercial vehicles very expensive. I also find customers paying for a regular service dont like it when you can not provide because your trucks in the shop. To overcome such trouble I looked at runing two vehicles however tax is £225 & insurance is £600 ( i dont understand this as evern Travis Pastrana cant drive two trucks at once) then you have to store and M.O.T. My current van costs about £1500 in just repairs & service a year not to mention loss of earnings & when its in shop. Lease van as far as I can make out costs £3000 year so its actualy cheaper than having two old trucks. The advantages are allways there ready to go, no nasty repair bills & smart profesonal looking outfit with sign writing etc your accounts & tax work better. Diss advantages you need a depsoit, you cant sell if you can not work, its expensive to either scratch, dent or run up high millage so the cost is not actally kowen until you give the keys back. I have heard servicing is very expensive and voids the waranty if you drop the oil & filter yourself. Iam considering a lease. The second hand market has alot of demand. I need a big van as i carry all my kit. Mowers, hedge cutters, ladders, ground work tools, strimmers, saws & carry materials & cuttings. What worries me is limited millage & denting & sracthing in it. The van will work hard all day all year it will get a beating and i just can not predict the cost of wear & tear. -

Its a walk behind 4 wheels gxv160 engine all works well. I am on the look out for a decent wheeled mower this one came up cheap to good to be true. I thought gearboxes where deer like £300 as with the roller mower. But i never imagend they could charge over 60% of cost of new mower for a smallish part ( £750 ). I have got two new honda mowers but one is like a bomerang allways going back to dealer ( under warranry ) so iam not so keen to buy new. Parts are so expensive I guess you have to buy new.

I have just bought a lawnflite hydro mower this thing is a beast heavy but its so tough you coul run it over with a digger and break the digger. Anyway i was exited about fixing it untill i found the price of a new gearbox. I guess its a seald unit The input shaft turns but the output does not cables all lool tight. Has any one know of an economical way to fix or should I weigh it in?

Buxus its. Slow growing likes chalk alkaline ever green too.

Hi Garden Kit I have run it with exhasut complety off. I cleaned the carb out with compressed air. I usaly only buy BP, Shell or Esso I try to avoid other fuels as I have noticed a difference in quality before. Its not my bread & butter tool like a strimmer or blower where its used on almost every job. It does spend some time sitting around. Should I flush the fuel? Do you think I should try some fuel cleaner? I also had a supision it might be valves jumping but do not know if that would be possible.

I have disconnected all wires from coil still behaves the same. I was told to ohm test the coil but not sure what ohms it should and should not say. Tried a different plug too. I can work with it runs on 3/4 throttle or under load fine just full rpm it shuts it self off. Restarts with little effort. Makes me swear lol.
-
I have done that a few times. When this fault started I thought that is what was happening but I was not that lucky.
-
I did think thats what it was likely to be. However I have no way of testing it & there too expensive to buy incase my diagnostics is wrong I would have two good coils and still an ill engine.

Mantis Tiller Honda GX25 cuts Out @ High RPM. It starts & runs well until revs get high and it just cuts out restarts ok. I did think it might be kill switch wire earthing on body. I checked all the obvios. Exhaust, Plug, clean out carb and tank breather. I am mythed about it wonderd if you guys could help.

Depends where it is if its in an open arear just growing on soil I have lit a frie on ground burnt it and what comes back fill it full of neat roundup. I have never delt with it growing out of concrete or fences that must be very hard to kill. I see it on my travells alot round county lanes but no one realy seems to care.
