    Tree Pruning

Blatant spam, misinformation and poor grammar/spelling...
  2. Yep, Fuligo septica, or Dog's Vomit slime mould...
  3. Good news for tree work contractors though!
  4. Me too, funny fungus strikes again!
  5. Sound advice. And as asked, what side of the tree is the 'hole'? To me it doesn't look right to be a shed or pruned branch - more like a central hole from a drill bit with a scored circle from the chuck around it. There looks to be similar amount of algae between the 'hole' and the circle as there is just outside the circle; this suggests the outer ring mark has been scored into the bark, rather being the result of new callous growth, hence my 'chuck mark' and central drill bit thoughts... Before going and pointing the finger of blame maybe get a local surveyor /consultant to have a look?
  6. I couldn't say with 100% certainty without seeing the tree 'in the flesh', but it certainly looks like a drill hole...
  7. Certainly not dead, and a whole lot of growing to go yet!

    Busy Plod

Indeed, but if you or a loved one were badly injured (or your truck and chipper written off) by an uninsured driver, you'd be pleased they were doing something to stop that, surely?
  9. Top marks Mr Lofthouse nicely done!
  10. Top notch indeed. I wonder if the regular bench user will appreciate the window?
  11. Nicely done David. Is there any decay causing it to subside?

    Fungi id

Definitely chicken, and just ready for eating too by the looks of it
  13. You have a real talent there tvi! Bravo!
  14. Sorry, just realised there's more to this thread than your last post! Does look like a beech, suckers are more likely seedlings, so any poisoning to them is unlikely to have any significant impact on the tree. So the 50% sudden leaf drop remains a mystery...
  15. Hmm, no pic. How big is the tree, are the remaining leaves green and healthy? Poison is a possibility, and this can be tested for - I think the RHS can do this, maybe... The other thing which strikes me as odd is you mention suckers, yet the thread title says we are talking about a beech tree. Are you sure it's a beech? They don't produce suckers...
  16. So, when are you going to write a book?

    Home brew!

Sorry, the Easter brew is the choc one, it's a cream stout or the Yule brew (cinnamon and ginger) I'm getting on next...

    Home brew!

Just poured my first pint of Nelson's Revenge with extra Fuggles, very nice indeed! Wasn't keen on the nog though, and it wouldn't drop below 1016 or so, so only came out about 3.8/4% Been at it a year, the starter kit was a gift for my birthday and I've since added to it too. If I'm organized with starting the next one I can supply myself a pint a night, which is nice that reminds me, I need to start a St Peter's cream stout or a bulldog Easter brew asap. Have you tried either? I've still got 20 odd bottles of the bulldog chocolate stout to get through, I hope their Easter brew is better!

    Mapping software

Another vote for pear tech here. I run it on a rugged getac gps, can't really fault it and their customer support is spot on! I received an email yesterday too, saying that pocketgis (the data capture software) will now be available on android devices, which opens up tablet possibilities etc...
