  1. I agree with Timon I come across many ropes I haven’t LOLERed in the past, but most climbers have had their kit inspected by me, when they were working for a different firm or bring documentation of a Loler inspection by another inspector. If there is some paperwork, as Bolt indicates, then all well and good. No paperwork than I would not touch with a barge pole! Martyn
  2. When I was on the tools (A few years ago now) my favourite was Sachs Dolmar 120 Super as a ground saw and Stihl 020 AV top handle for climbing, both great saws but the 020 is probably a bit heavy comparing to the modern saws! Martyn
  3. I have just read the whole thread, unbelievable after 7 years of work, what is the world coming too! What happened to the other seedlings? Hopefully they are growing somewhere and you can replant? Martyn
  4. I took a picture a few nights ago A clear night but didn’t take it early enough to get the full effect. Martyn
  5. Yes the old ball locks. Going back a few years (at least 10-15) they had a recall on them, I think or it might have been the first metal ones, I am not sure but it was a fairly long time ago! Anyway they never really failed, unless the barrels where full of dirt, but seemed flimsy to me and more expensive then DMM or ISC, perhaps it was because they where made in France and with Petzl stamped on them, and not made in the UK. Martyn
  6. I agree that Timon, I have inspected many Sequoia’s, over the years both old and new and the buckles are poor! Also I always seem to catch my fingers in them while testing! Petzl seem to like using plastic, but good to see they have stopped using them on their karabiners! Though I still see a few about in use. Martyn
  7. Looks like Chesil Beach not sure exactly as it is a long beach
  8. Looks like Hascombe south of Godalming about half a mile from the White Horse pub would be my guess
  9. Hi a change of subject. I read this, this morning and for once I agree with Alan Tichmarsh. TV gardener Alan Titchmarsh has hit out at a road-widening scheme that threatens a swathe of Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) woodland. The RHS said there were two options to widen the A3 in Surrey as part of M25 improvements and one would take out a bank of trees including giant redwoods. The scheme could see RHS Wisley lose 500 trees, including one planted by the Queen to mark her silver jubilee. I can't see why Highway England can't use the other option. Martyn
  10. Hi All This time 2 Sunsets taken in Pompey a little while ago, Didn't have my Nikon with me, so these where taken with my iPhone I was quite surprised how they came out. Martyn
  11. Hi How about Sunrise. This was taken from Bedar overlooking Mojacar on the Costa Almeria, Spain
  12. Hi Steve just tried tonight and didn't have to log in this time, looks like your change of setting worked!
  13. Yes at the moment and still getting the email, I am in southern Spain at the moment but that's about 5 hours drive from Madrid!
  14. Hi Steve I have not been able to log on to my iPhone app, I noticed posting from Arbtalkers using google play apps. Has an iPhone app been updated yet? Also I use my iPhone 90% of the time to log on Arbtalk and have to put my password in everytime and then get a email saying you don't recognise the device and I am in Madrid or Murcia!
  15. Ok thanks Steve, hopefully I will get use to the new format!
  16. I understand the iPhone app is still with the developers. I find it a chore to login every time! when is the new app out Steve? I don't know how to PM you, but I am still writing that article on Loler's Martyn
  17. I haven't posted because the iPhone app is not working is there a new app or do I need to do an update? I have worked out without using the app, but find it a fiddle! martyn
  18. As a grass cutter I only thought you need a lawnmower for your setup.
  19. A fisherman's knot is for usually used for tying too a Karabiner A double fisherman's is used for tying two pieces of rope together.
  20. Tell me about. Trouble is I don't think earmuffs where even available when I started. I haven't watched the video yet, thanks for that Steve, I will try later.
  21. Thanks for all the posts. Just hope that the younger members, think seriously about ear protection. I have also learnt a few bits of good information. Martyn
  22. That's interesting I have been offered hearing aids, if it stops the static and ringing, I might take up the option! I don't think my hearing is that bad, but my wife disagrees!
  23. That's an interesting point, I have worn glasses since I was 15 and used earmuffs from 18 onwards.
  24. I think the moral in this, is not wearing ear protection at an early age!
