  1. V8 powered chipper! I've thought about sticking a v8 on various things for a laugh, but that I would have to see! Never heard about these chuck and duck thingies. How do they not eat themselves when big lumps are going through?!
  2. Came accross this on youtube. Think they need it this fast as the guys are so slow!! [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pt0WcptBaJI]YouTube - ‪Wood chipper!‬‏[/ame]
  3. That looked fair close to the mog!
  4. All being blown completly out of proportion. I don't agree with the 'sell-off' as it is just the government making a quick buck, as opposed to managing the forests which will always have income coming in off the land. It is in the private landowners intrest (and they can get grants for) providing access for the public. There are also a vast number of miles (God knows how many) of FC land that has public bridleways/footpaths ect which will be obviously be open anyway. Yes some carparks will be shut, yes some access will be restricted, but I think it will be a small proportion. Remember you will only hear on the news the few that will be locked shut and closed for good, not the most that will stay open. Thats just a small bit of what I think. Wait and see.....!
  5. Hi I'm on the look-out for subbies for forestry work (cutting, winching, planting etc) in the South Lakes. Ideally fairly local (or don't mind stopping away!) and a good grafter Pm me for more info. Thanks
  6. I think that if you put a camera up for CCTV purposes you have to put a sign up saying you are being watched. Not sure how it would work if you said it was just for 'wildlife'. Suppose people could argue about it pointing into a turnaround or the likes as opposed to being somewhere in the wood for 'wildlife' away from roads etc. Luckily never happened to me as far as I'm aware, unless people have taken a small amount of wood. Known plenty of people who have has the odd wagon load go missing. Theiving scumbags! Would love to get my hands on someone pinching off me!
  7. I'm a 34" waist, and medium stretch airs fit me perfect. And by the by, I would not buy any other trousers than the stretch airs. Not as impressed with the gladiators, but next pair will be back to the 'full stretch' ones.
  8. nobodys mentioned wetterlings yet?! I have a wetterling splitting maul, little bit cheaper than the Gransforths but just as good, hand forged etc. Would definately reccommend one.
  9. Almost any wood when seasoned will do the job, but as siad before poplar is good as generally straight and reletavely knot free.
  10. had this problem too. Probably will be crankseal, had about 3 go now and all done same thing, reves up on idle then cuts out.
  11. Yve pm sent and many thanks for the new band tracks.....
  12. Ditto, except from problems with my feet! Remember at 2000-3000 hrs a year in them, £180ish and lasting a year is ok with me generally!
  13. I'm through a broker called Footman James. Have been really helpful and quite cheap. Not sure if they would be amy good with you being 19, but might be worth a look?
  14. pm me your number and I'll giver you a quick bell Cheers
  15. pm me your number and I'll give you a quick bell. Bit easier to ring! Cheers
  16. No point in socks, or boots today seen as I now have developed a mild case of trench foot. Been a bit of a 'damp' day! The best ones by far are the ex army green wool socks. £1/pair from market, some pairs have lasted me about 4 year! Sometimes double them up with old knackered thin socks in winter if it's cold, but I'm usually working too hard too notice that!!
  17. The first two were me, the other I'm pleased to say was not!!
  18. I'm looking for people who are after forestry work (cutting, winching, planting (mainly broadleaved) etc) in Cumbria. I'm not looking at taking employees on full time (maybe on an ad-hoc basis), but mainly sub-contractors from time to time who are looking for extra work as my work load is picking up. Nearly all work is £/hour, with exception of planting at piece rate. Most of my work is in the South Lakes with some in the northern part. Tickets needed are at least cs 30/31, preferably 32/34 and fmoc for winching. PM me for more details. Thanks
  19. Sustained well enough?? It keeps the bank sustained well if you mean that! To be honest its picked up well, lots of good quotes going out and some good jobs coming off too this last couple of weeks. Without sounding like an old man I could tell you a lot of tales!! Hull eh? I grew up in Hessle. From the least wooded county in UK, to working in forestry...
  20. Didn't have to, free entry with confor membership!
