  3. For the last ten minutes of viewing this thread the only things that have left my mouth are "ooo" "errr" and "wow". Keep it up bud, maybe the best thread on arbtalk Sam
  4. If Im not at home I might be at Ramada Hopefully home though Will let you know Sam
  5. I am on flat ground (Cheshire, its only got two hills!) but I did a demo on a ATV course (45 degree slopes) and it coped just fine. A friend of mine who is the head grouse keeper on a estate in Scotland (about as hilly as you like) is having trouble keeping his keepers on quads! They are all after them! One estate I know of has a Polaris Ranger (The 4 seater "crew cab" version) running on tracks. Beats a quad hands down apparently, though I havent seen it myself. If I was doing serious hill/bad ground work you cant beat an Argo, other than price. To be honest I think the Kuboto is more veristile than a tractor, its just easy, fastish on the roads, can pull well enough for me. Im still in the camp of my Honda Foreman for now
  6. Anyone using UTVs for Arb/Forestry work? We got ours the other day and so far I am very impressed. Nevert thought I'de say it but I could see it replacing the quad for what we do soon. Its offroad ability is amazing, well compared to what you would think, and its could carry a fair bit too. Ours is a Kubota RTV 500 in orange with a roof and windscreen. Thinking that (if needed) it could cary a chip box on the back (not a huge one). Will try and get some pics up this weekend Sam
  7. Tht old blue landy isnt for sale is it? Sam
  8. If not I would recomend Buxtons Forestry & Arb. They stock a brilliant range and have pretty keen prices too. Was in there the otherday and they had some Stihl type As for £50 odd quid! I have bought from them numerous times and their service is excellent. Safety Trousers- Protective Chainsaw Trousers for Arborists Sam

  10. The sawdust/muck/oil/fluff etc also adds goodness! Iron and other good-for-you things that cannot otherwise be put into the diet of the arborist** (well the ones I know). Sam ** For "diet of arborist" read - Mars Bars, Fizzy Drinks, Alochol, Cakes, Fried goods

  15. So you will be voting for Pedro then Mick? So many, but Anchorman is so brilliant. I love Lamp. Sam
  16. Today has turned out rather well Spent this morning in our woods messing about a little and putting up an owl box. On the way back our next door farmer stopped me for a chat, hes currently selling off his farm because he kids dont want it . He saw the saw in the front basket on the quad and started talking about how he used to do a bit, he said he had all this old kit in one of his barns and I could help myself if I wanted any because he didnt need it anymore! So I came home with a Stihl Class 1 Jacket that hasnt seen much use, a McCulloch top handle saw (little 14" bar, doesnt work ,yet), 2 Silky Saws and 4 axes! I took him over a case of stout after lunch, and he said that if Im quick I can help myself to any dead standers in his wood for the fire! Happy Sam
  17. £5 per bail is normal round here this year. Horseists seem happy to pay it too Cut ours a week back Sam
  18. Me in 1997 I think Interestingly the saw is a Jonsered Something or other. It had a bag that you would put into the notch (I think... I was 4) and it inflated off the saw engine, as it inflated it felled the tree. If anyone knows anything more about I would be very interested, I dont think it caught on though! Sam
  19. Aye and I didnt think of that! Yeah good thinking batman! Sam
