  1. first apologies for not replying sooner update in case it helps someone else, I altered the spark gap but the problem still remained so I bit the bullet and replaced the coil pack and that seems to have cured it I have ran it for 10 mins with no problems and it starts up and runs like a gud un so spot on WeFixIt the problem seems to have been with the coil and thanks as well to Spudulike for another top tip Cheers guys Roger
  2. Cheers for that I will give it a go in the morning and feedback any Idea what the gap should be ? I cant seem to find a workshop manual on tinter web ( but I will use the card method) Thanks Roger
  3. Hi Guys, I have been given a BG75 blower as it has a problem running and as It has cost me nowt im going to have a good go at getting it sorted and even spend some cash on it :-) The symptoms are it starts ok and will run fine for 2 -2 1/2 mins then cut out and wont start again for a good while. So far I have changed the plug given the carb a good clean out checked the fuel line and cleaned the ignition coil up and checked for snapped wires etc . When it cuts out its like the kill switch has been pressed, its not seizing and as far as i can tell the piston/bore look un-scored Im erring towards a faulty coil as there doesn't seem to be a spark after it cuts out. Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue ?
  4. I think Stihl should start to take note of the customers, as I can see the writing on the wall a previous post mentioned the Chinese threat and the dealer from Scotland dismissed the idea of the Chinese being a threat ! That was the approach British layland and Triumph motor cycles took. I now drive a Mitsubishi truck, A German car and a Honda motor bike!!! I own one Sthil saw and two Huskys, and the Huskys are a direct result of the online policy Wake up and smell the coffee Stihl
  5. Another vote here for skin so soft, I laughed my rear end off when I was told about it but the other half made me give it a go and not a bite, well I tell a lie I had a nip on my ear but I think I missed that bit !!! an added bonus was that I smelt quite nice as well :-)
  6. Mate done this twice now, once for a timing belt and once for a balance belt which wrapped its self in spite around the timing belt !!!. Normally a couple of rockers bent/snapped if your lucky, Gates belt kit approx £100 which includes the tensioner's Milners 4x4 in Darley Dale for the rest gaskets, rockers etc bottom pulley (cow to get off) I had to fix a socket and extension bar jammed into the chassis and ( fuel disconnected a must) blip the ignition key DO NOT hold it on for more than 1/2 a second just a blip to crack the threads and make sure the extension bar is well secured I think there is a link on here somewhere to a online workshop Manuel not a particularly difficult job if you take your time All the best Roger
  7. The times I have had this conversation with log snobs I now tell them that the only safe thing to burn is smokeless while I get all the wood !!! I burn any type of wood I can get my hands on, this week I am going to be splitting a load of conifer and yew last week it was cherry, when I had my stainless steel insulated liner swept it was as in the sweeps words "as clean as a whistle" very little soot and no tarring and last year prior to it being swept I would say 60% of my burning was softwood. I always run my fire hot because if you notice ( clear view fire ) if the fire is on close down / slumber the glass blackens and this must get replicated up the chimney and then the fun starts, so just watch your glass I say (with a clear view anyway )
  8. bit off thread but, I only do a very few family/friends tree removals so not a large scale user but im about to start trying a method I have heard of Drill a few (number to be determined) holes and fill with potassium nitrate which apparently kills the stump and aids decomposition. Potassium nitrate is found in your sausages, bacon and other food items as well as a few more interesting substances. Anybody else tried this and if so any feedback ??
  9. I had a similar issue when I bought my 372xp flooded the first / second time I used it then worked out the sequence, choke out de-comp in 2 pulls choke in no de-comp and away we go......... until the day I did that with a half hearted first pull and the B******rd fired up first time and snatched back nearly pulled my arm out of joint, still not right now!! cracking saw though:001_smile:
  10. Good luck if they try to get mine ....its in my workshop I have fitted a stainless De-cat pipe to mine runs a bit better and no issues with the MOT ( been through 3 ) 10 min job to change and cost about £35, L200 by the way
  11. I had a similar experience in my L200 I had had a flat tyre on the rear near side so put the spare on, only trouble was the spare was a steel rim and my normal ones are alloys so the nuts were a bit proud, still I torqued them up and set off intending to sort it out the next day as it was a sunday. Picked my mate up as we were going shooting traveled about 6 miles BANG back end drops down and a wheel very much like mine went rolling of down the road All the wheel nuts let go about the same time as I got them all bar one within 50 yds of the occurrence needless to say we had a very steady drive to the shooting ground with frequent nut stops
  12. Never been that close to a deer, well an alive one anyway But while out shooting late /dusk I was sitting in a hedge bottom waiting for some rabbits to put an appearance in when I saw a fox ambling towards me. I kept as still as I could and eventually the fox walked up to me, by this time there were some rabbits opposite me in the field and it had not escaped raynard's attention so he was not paying that much attention to the hedge and he actually stopped about a foot away from me still looking into the field ( no I didn't shoot him) but he jumped up about 4 foot when I tapped him on the arse
  13. I'll go along with whats been said ( I have burnt/split a few tons) burns well in a stove wouldnt use it on a open fire as it can crack off at times but unless you have got a very good splitter don't let it dry as others have said it seems to grow twisted and if you do split it it seems to "let go " with some force I certainly would not like to tackle it with an axe One thing I have used it for is a mate of mine does hedge laying so as an experiment I made a maul with a lump of it and I must say it is very good, he has been using it for nearly a year now and it is still in good condition and looks like it will outlast him
  14. On the basis of this thread I have bought a Ghillie kettle looks about the same as a Kelly but has a whistle instead of a cork which has three distinct advantages, 1, I should avoid blowing myself up when one of my mates thinks its a good idea to pop the cork in :-0 2, the whistle will make sure I don't leave it to burn out when I forget its on 3, the whislte should keep the crap from the fire dropping into the boiling water so jobs a gud un
  15. I must admit I do all my own mechanical work (cus I'm tight and broke ! ) but I agree with the statement that most of the dealership "mechanics" are fitters, what they seem to miss is when the computer says lean fuel air mix possible cause MAF sensor instead of looking for other possibilities they just fly in with the screwdriver and new part, then if that don't fix it they stand about scratching their BoXXcks :-) instead of looking for leaks I swear by the plug in diagnostic OBD units ELM etc £6 off fleabay I have a couple about the place for the wife's and in-laws cars my only real problem is my truck its an 04 L200 just pre obd so no code reader for that unless I want to shell out £1200 for a MUT unit :-( I think the problem is people expect to much from the diagnostic units they are only a pointer that's the bit people seem to miss the impression is that the computer will tell you whats wrong when in fact it only gives the symptoms and possible causes, the real bonus for me is reading outputs in real time that is one thing that can be a proper godsend Just rebuilt the engine for the 2nd time on my truck, new head etc god knows how much that would of been in the main stealer's. For info if you are in the Derbyshire area, Milners 4x4 in Darley Dale are good for Japanese spares they do a filter kit that's air, fuel and 6 liters of oil for about £38, £330 for a built up head for the L200 (they do mail order) saved me some cash over the years :-)
  16. I am in a similar position to the original poster I run my log burner on " Free wood " in my case its (in my opinion) a mutually beneficial system. I work with a few full time tree surgeon's they drop the tree and deal with the brash (thank god ) and I turn up at the end of the job and get rid of the wood with my pick up and trailer. I don't sell the wood and only give away any surplus to a few elderly neighbors (I'm starting to sound like a saint lol ) Site is cleaned and left tidy, my only cutting requirements are that the rings are man handler-able and I'm a hefty chap. I am polite and helpful to the customer and to date I have never had any issues If I did not do this I would be out there competing against you full timers who earn a living at it, I think I'm equipped for the job MS230 for trimming and a husky 372 with a range of bars, large trailer pickup, full PPE and a fair number of take downs under my belt over the years ( farming background ) plus my overheads are minimal. I would not be doing the large poplar's in the small back terrace's but cherry picking the easy bread and butter jobs, mine would be almost free as all I want is the wood and expenses, so customers would beat a path to my door. So spare a thought for the " Wood fairies" it can be a win win all round if you have no use for your arb waste. As a by-product I have on a number of occasions recommended the tree surgeons to people asking me to fell trees which has lead to work for them and wood for me :-)
  17. just my two penneth worth, I am now in the market for another saw I'm running a stihl at the moment mostly logging and occasional felling all my own maintenance/sharpening etc, and almost exclusively due to Stihls policy I will be getting a husky next as I cant be chasing around for consumable items which I normally pre order in advance and from being almost exclusively Stihl equipment I am now only running with 30% of Stihl kit my PPE is due for a revamp after Christmas and that will not be stihl. So the customer will start seeing Husky more and more and Stihl will start to fall from the public vision of the professionals choice, which from Stihls marketing point of view will be suicide as a previous post alluded to Joe public wants to use what the professionals use which could well be Husky
  18. I burn Arb waste in the main which has a large amount of softwood, in fact for 1 year I was burning mainly pine and Leylandii when I had the chimney swept the following year the sweep commented on how clean it was just a fine dusting of ash certainly no tar at all. I put that down to burning seasoned <20% moisture and at a constant high temp at least 200c, no over night smoldering. I burn about 8-9 m3 of wood a year and all arb waste, the majority softwood with the odd bit of cherry/apple/oak now and again as said before softwood burns faster but nice for that quick start when you get in

    Dremel ?

I would be lost without mine ! I must use it at least once a week and its great for sharpening my chains, I would not bother with the non Dremal types they just don't last ( in my experience anyway) I have been through 3-4 cheaper ones but the proper Dremal keeps on going :-) Keep an eye out in aldi-Lidal etc for the attachments as they can be ok Great bit of Kit, only my humble opinion and no im not working for Dremal :-)

    MS230 woes

Guys just looking for inspiration/guidance, my trusty MS230 is playing up the symptoms are starts cold no problem, 2nd pull and away she goes, idles no problem and revs right up idles from cold to hot with no issues BUT when it has warmed up if you switch it off it just wont start. If you leave it 10-20 mins it will eventually crack up, but if you try too early it floods every time:bawling: I didn't have time to strip it today but I figure someone will have had this happen so looking for an idea where to look first cheers
  22. Mate I would take a look at these, Petrol & Electric Log Splitters I have had one of the 7 ton ones with a stand for about 3 years now I split arb waste which includes rings 10"" thick 2 foot dia and it handles these ok knotty stuff goes through fine Eucalyptus makes it stutter a bit, but it has been brilliant i norm split about 5-10 ton a year and it all goes through the splitter !! the only issues I have had have been a slight cracking on the weld on the pad at the end of the ram ( 10 min fix with an electric welder ) and the stand needed beefing up due to the weight of the stuff I was loading it up with Axe is ok but why struggle ??? must admit my 27x fiskers is a nice tool but the Triton is better
  23. I have just found out something !! don't give rabbits cherry to chew on, apparently its toxic to them. I gave some to a friend but she found out before any harm done! I think Ill stick to supplying firewood in future :-)
  24. We used to have 3 English Mastiffs :-O two were kept outside in a dedicated run with a 8x6 shed full of hay and blankets to sleep in at night and one who had run of the house with a jack Russel to keep her in order :-) She was never allowed on the bed though much to much slobber for that. we have now got a Lurcher and a Russell who sleep in a basket in the utility room. on the point of security the two Male Mastiffs who were in the compound each weighed about 14 stone and were a very dark brindle ( it will become apparent in a min ) the one side of the compound was a fence 7ft high adjacent to the property next door and partially adjacent to the road, one night about 2 in the morning there was a hell of a commotion ie dogs barking cars revving, people shouting and a car accelerating hard away !!!! I looked across to where the dogs were but all seemed to be in order. the next morning when I went down to sort the dogs out I noticed some material on the top of the fence and the bushes on the road side were flattened down, all I can imagine is some Tosser had hopped over the fence straight into the Dogs compound :-) needless to say they never came back wish I had got a cam running that would of been worth £250 on you've been framed
  25. I have Got ARC,MIG and Gas and to be honest its normally the ARC I end up using. Any welding I do is normally repair stuff, I normally use Gas for cutting and Arc for welding the MIG is great when it runs but a right pain in the rear when it starts playing up then you have the gas issue which is not to bad for me as I have an account and can get a bottle for a week and just pay for the gas. To be honest my welding isn't up to industry standard :-) but the stuff usually stays stuck with the arc welder :-)
