  1. "Topparding" this Oak to open up the canopy of the Vet Beech pollard behind. The issue here, is the listed monument directly below The Oak is growing directly on top of "Hardicanute's Moat" which was a fortification for a 12th century homestead. Not a dent, scratch or pimple expected. Rigging, was definately the order of the day. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=4092 Anyone else had unusual targets? .
  2. Camera's still not been back to Sony yet, so am left using the view finder instead of the screen
  3. Took the team over to Burnham Beeches last week. We got the opportunity to open up the canopies around some of the 500 yr old Beech Pollards. The site is one of the most important ancient woodlands in the Uk, (The area is protected as a National Nature Reserve, Site of Special Scientific Interest and a candidate Special Area of Conservation) and I feel priveleged, not just to have been there but actually left a fingerprint (all be it tiny) on the fantastic management of what is a national Gem. Awesome place http://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/Corporation/LGNL_Services/Environment_and_planning/Parks_and_open_spaces/Burnham_Beeches/ .
  4. A few bits an pieces from this week. First three G. adspersum Piptosporus betulinus and lichen on beech leaf .
  5. Shrewd move my man.

Definately keen to come up to your site in the new year, maybe be with a couple of other like minded tree freaks.

Would you be up for showing us around?

  6. Yeah, will definately catch up with you a couple of times next week Lee.

    Probably Monday and Friday.

    Look forward to it.

  7. What, no pests ! Thaumetopea pityocompa possibly. Pine processionary moth. Does feed on Cedrus. .
  8. Pretty much ditto to the above. Do you see even the annual red zone inspections as achievable within budget? Not convinced mine will be. Attended the London Tree Officers Officers quarterly on Monday, where Julian Forbes Laird ( on Draft Panel for 8516) re-itterated Trees to be inspected by "expert" within 5 years. Which is getting me thinking, that too much emphasis and resource is going in to getting Red Zones plotted and condition surveyed within time scale, potentially at the expence of other equally important parts of the ensemble ie; training-equipment-planting-Veteran Trees, etc........ .
  9. John, do you have a Risk Zone based Tree strategy, or are you plotting/condition surveying all of your stock? I've zoned our areas, and am using Arbortrack .
  10. Senior Managements not my bag David. Too detached for my liking. Rebecca and I share a boss, who's looking like they're gonna be pulled this way and that, with regards to next years budget. 10 paces at dawn Becca, last Arb standing gets to the front of the queue .
  11. So long as it doesn't affect my budget requests , that gotta produce; New Van, 15 Seminars, Field trip to the Basque Pollards, Grade increase, 4 new climbing Rigs, a Hobbs, a tracked 35m replacement for Nelly, Field trip to the Borneo canopy research project, and new pen knife. .
  12. Really looking forward to it, see you there Marcus. That is an impressive list of speakers. Was listening to JFL this morning at Merton Civic Centre speaking on Bs 8516 & 3998. Thought prevoking delivery. Any one needing a lift, I'll be heading off from north London.
  13. Nice sympathetic reduction John. How long ago? Have you had to revisit the regrowth yet. I found a good number of weeping and crack Willows with largish pruning wounds hosting Laetiporus this year. Yourself? .
  14. Hello Lawrence, welcome on board.

Gonna catch Marcus' Merip seminar on the 20th are you going?

    Not many places left..

Not to be missed if you can make it.

Great bunch of speakers, Londsdale, JFL, Andrew Cowan & Brian Greig

    Speak soon David.

  15. Nice one Pete, you got Gano sp, Merip & Pholiota. Were they all on one Beech? .
  16. Very nice indeed, Paul Now feel these are not worthy. Ginko I pass almost everyday, and watch change in front of my eyes. Plus Tibetan Cherry .
  17. Looks like honey fungus, Armillaria sp. Can you get a shot of the stem? .
  18. That's some serious adaptive growth going on there Iain. Be real interesting to do further investigation on the Trunk base. Is it on main road verge or private, what's with all the holes in the soil? D .
  19. How does your stock come MB, is it one size one use sachet or do you re-use once opened? Take on board your point on your blood thinness, but using the Celox for scratches (well compared to big lacerations) could be pricey. Definately reassuring to see and hear about it working though.
  20. Just like the Penguins Mr Coates. .
