  1. Best decision I ever made Yesterday we planted 1,700£ worth of trees (cost to me) for a vat regd company With the mark up and labour they would never pay for the dead vat I would have to charge on top or I would loose I profit if not in vat club. By keeping off vat I think your stunting your buissness growth and capability unless you want to do pure domestic for eternity

  3. I love you all xxxx
  4. Commercial I reckon nearly all of them apart from the odd site clearance Domestic about 90% which is to high, I always say to my self i'm going to price higher because of the ball ache and knock silly little jobs on the head but when I look at the pathetic face of someone wanting a reduction done on there budleigh I get empathetic and give a reasonable price. I dislike domestic
  5. I use IMbatch which can watermark too and its free which is the price i like
  6. Debris netting £20 for 50m does the trick and seems to last
  7. Not that I'm saying you are but I think the problem with this industry is we try to get away with the minimum, its a farmer mentality. The O'licence is a few forms, an advert in the paper and agreeing to do 6 weekly checks Its a few hundred quid but lasts 5 years so broken down isn't to much, my view is that with all the boxes ticked CPC, O licence etc should a opportunity come knocking ie big council felling contract I can go out and buy a timber lorry, bigger lorry etc without having to wait for the paper work to come through. You need a Fleet manager for a none restricted licence, you can get away with restricted but luckily my bros a fleet manager so I can have a standard licence. If you read through the forms it makes sense Its money but if I did't spend it on cool stuff like lorries the misses would spend it on crap like hoovers and washing machines.
  8. I passed both tests in scania
  9. In the uk you can 7.5tonner which pre 97 licence people have automatically Class 2 rigid as big as you like no trailer over 750kg Class 1 rigid with trailer or arctic You need cpc to drive for a living but let's not open that can of worms (I have it)
  10. Chicken and egg, I don't really have the work for a lorry, but it sets you apart, if you have it sign written and people see it, when they have a massive tree to get shot of they'll think "Ill get they guy in with the kick ass lorry who will be efficient and professional instead of the guy with the little tinkers van who will have to do a hundred trips and take days" With kit like that if it don't work you just sell it I'd rather regret the risks I took than the opertunities I missed
  11. That's a beautiful truck and I've seen loads like that in my price range but a big job to drive about. There's a 4x4 merc on the bay but for off road I can forward timber out with my digger. There's a nice wagon and drag timber lorry on bay too with rear mount crane, looking at what you can get I don't know why I thought transits were even a option for so long
  12. Its a great idea but I would like to tow a meaty chipper too, also I only passed my Class1 in summer so need to build up some experience for insurance. I was getting quotes of 2-3k for that rig, trust came in at just over a grand so big thumbs up for them
  13. Thanks peter, I can only find two 12tonners on the whole internet. Is your view on the crane that if its at the back you can load trailers or have more working area? Do you think the price is right for that one I put pics up of?
  14. So transits are great for carrying tools and towing your caravan but not much else and tired of dodging a merciless sodomising from the Vosa man at the weighbridge I'm getting a lorry. I've got my class 1, my operators licence is in the post and am browsing ebay and truck trader, but what I can't get my head around is the variation in prices. a 18 tonner with a crane can be bought for around £8,500 which is a lot of lorry for not much money. But probably to big for most applications. (we do mostly commercial but still need to get into tight spots) Where by what I would like is a 12 tonner which is a nice size and good weight with a crane. But its a lot less lorry and seem to cost more at around £12k So whats everyone's opinion on good makes and sizes? or what are people running? I like the look of this but has been for sale a while so might be there asking to much as I would still like to swap the clamshell for a timber grab and re paint and line it.
  15. There's a job going here Tree Surgeon, Arborist Vacancy Northamptonshire
  16. Martin Shelley is good for northants for towing For hgv I used Carole's lgv
  17. Surely be better with a tracked 15-20m basket
  18. I've towed a Kx61-3 with a trannie Takes some doing,
  19. Ah apologies
  20. If your are a company and pay staff by PAYE as I assume everyone does you can enter how much you as a company have been deducted in BASIC PAYE tools and its paid into your HMRC account
  21. You can claim in back instantly through basic paye tools I found this out the other day, I'd been doing it the hard way
  22. You can by compost bins now these days and it makes rich earth for growing ya spuds in for free. Saves the council a bit money too helping pay for people who don't like to work
