  1. Sounds like you have a real good set up there, so why do you need a partner and not just an employee ??
  2. (i'm a joiner by trade with links to transportation )Came accross it through google, was playing about one day and wanted information on something and came accross it, never looked back, not a pro or even do any real felling, but have never felt out of place on here, people are so willing to help each other out its unreal, just like having a live encyclopedia. Brilliant.
  3. Hey Rob, this seems a Very good idea for a forum, i'm also a carpenter / joiner whos thinking of trying milling, so thumbs up for the idea and please keep everyone posted. cheers.
  4. I like the look of those gates very much, well done, briiliant idea, but (and this may be a daft question), what type of ironmongry do you use, ie hinges, as there doesnt seem anywhere to fit the large tee hinge or hook and bands normally associated with these type of gates. Look well made tho.
  5. All the best every one, hope this year is better than the last.
  6. Yes, sort out what direction i want to go in. Last couple of years i seam to have lost alsorts of direction and i feel like a big ping pong ball, sort my head out and then knuckle down to serious work. (and have at least 1 long holiday ).
  7. Left school and did my joinery apprenticeship, stuck at it till i qualified then left and went into distribution, drove forklifts etc, got my class 2 lgv, went collage and got my cpc, and worked my way up to assistant manager, left went back into joinery and now fancying tractor driving of some sort, for a while anyway. Need to do my cs30 /31 as well at some point soon. ( my saw work is for my own use / firewood.) Think my ideal job (if there is such a thing ) would be working for a timber haulier, sadly there isnt one near to where i live.
  8. I completely agree with this point. Over the last 2 years during the reccession, i have kept going and a roof over my head by taking anything on even working on minimum wage and getting the 'mick' took out of me. Like you say, there is work there if you really want it, it may not be ideal, but at least its work.
  9. Why was there another purpose to the clip ????? Lorry, I've just turned 40 mate, i'm 5'4 and 12 stone, been dr's for medical, passed with flying colours. He said not to get hung up on facts n figures, as every body is different.
  10. Cheers for the info guys, i like the fact your all saying get an old one, instead of a compact. Still fancy a diesel fergy tho. What are David Browns like. How much roughly would a pto chipper be (4" max) and would a fergy be powerful enough to run it. Again any info much appreciated.
  11. Some advice please chaps. I'm looking at buying my first tractor next year. I'm buying on a tight budget and unsure which way to go. The tractor is for personal use on the allotment mainly but i also want to put a small (4" max) chipper on the back. Now i'm unsure whether to go down the compact ( kubota / iseki ) route or get an old fergie ( or something similar ) It would only get used once a week if that sometimes. As long as i can do usual stuff with it, ie , plough, rotovate and maybe grass cutting sometimes then i dont mind. What do you lot think. ( oh and it must be road legal ) as it will be stored at home but must go on road the the garden and parents. Any advice much appreciated.
  12. Well from a joiners point of view who also has dealings in the transport sector, i would say that things are definately looking up. But dont forget the cuts havent really started yet and theres the VAT increase. So i would say its another cautious start to the new year.
  13. Whats wrong in using a plain old simple Bic ( or Mach 3 turbo) razor with soap n water all over, no fuss, no mess, no barbers, just a simple clean shave every time. Been doing it this way for last 20 years. The cuts dont hurt after first half dozen or so. lol.
  14. i bought my lovely wife a new mountain bike and a new camara. As well as a GYRO-COPTER which is brill, she is also paying for me to do the nptc Tractor Driving course in the new year. LOVE her to bits. Will of been married 8 yrs on the 30th. Love her more each day.
  15. Liz should of won by a mile. Stella will win now, but have a suspicion that sugar likes Chris.
  16. i have my own gym equipment in the garage, free weights, punch bag etc, i find it a lot better than paying gym fees then having to find time to go. Having my own means no travelling or anything and i can excercise whenever i want, for as long as i want. I know what you mean tho about gym junkies / bouncers, have come accross it many times. But like Mr Blair says, theres nowt better than getting outdoors, i personnally prefer the mountain bike to walking tho.
  17. Never really understood big trak the first time round, and not botherd this time either. But must admit i am fancying one of those gyro copters that seem all the rage now.
  18. Never !, not in a million years, nude always.
  19. I'm boring, i've got the lovely wife to pay for a nptc tractor driving course / test. She said no to buying an actual tractor.
  20. Hi, just been looking at new deals for a mobile phone, when i came across JCB Sitemaster / Tradesmen mobile phones. Has anyone got one or even heard of them. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks
  21. Either a DAF or IVECO, would be my choice, both are eonomical, decent rides and cheap to maintain and run. cheers.
  22. not a full time pro like you guys, just use saws for my own use, but i've gone onto tesco veg oil. suits me down to ground. Dont know the ins and outs of using veg oil, but it works, its cheap, so why not !!!
  23. Same here, I have been looking after the maintainance of a care home and a doctors practice, fed up of putting right, others wrongs, even worse how come everyone suddenly becomes an expert on your job and tells you how to do it, how long it should take, how much to charge etc etc,
  24. Interesting ! I am am also thinking of doing something along similar lines. But the way i was thinking of doing it, is with a small compact tractor and spliter on the back, that way i could take it to the customer and process the timber where it is stored / felled. i too wouldnt know what to charge. Its an idea i've had for ages, not got the equipment yet, just toying with the idea, and what set up to go for. Personally i'd prefer to charge either 1/2 day or full day rates.
  25. DAF always, run forever, cheap to run, cheap to maintain.
