  1. Hi All Bearing in mind that i'm not a full pro user like rest of you guys, i wounder if you could give me any tips on best sharpening practice. I currently sharpen my chain with either a file or more commonly a little dremel machine. Both of which sharpens the chain decently, but is there any better alternatives. I have never used one of those chainsharpeners where you need to remove the chain from the bar, what are they like. Thanks in advance.
  2. Either diahatsu or suzuki, would be my choice, what about an old freelander, good deals to be had.
  3. love the pictures, would love to get stuck into a decent job like that, from tree to finished article, as a chippie and general woodworker thats always the dream job.
  4. Depends on what where and when for me too. different jobs, different timings but stop at least every couple of hours for refreshment and still like a hot cuppa by my side, despite the micky take.
  5. being mainly in building trade working as a chippie, i know what its like, had a rough couple of year, got wife , 2kids to look after, beginning of this year i decided to work for local doctor as his handyman for a bit. He has several properties, nursing home, surgery etc to look after. He only pays £6.50 an hour, but its been a life saver, crap wage but regular and better than nowt. Just sit tight, do what you can, things will get better.
  6. Black eyed peas, tonights going to be a good, good night (hopefully)!!!!!!
  7. Hi all, just wondering if it is worthwhile doing the nptc course in tractor driving, with a few to employment, or is it best to take the rather expensive cpcs route. Just thinking of another string to bow as an alternative to hgv's. cheers.
  8. Hi steve, sorry to bother you but i appear to have lost the 'new thread' button from my home page, how do i rectify it.

    cheers

    harvey.

  9. Hi

Can you please tell me wether it is worthwhile doing the nptc tractor driving course, with a view to possibly working for a company, or is it like most things to do with plant, that you are better off just doing the cpcs course.

    thanks.

  10. Ive got an old 1.3mp brick. still works tho, but should really update it, thinking of a fujifilm from towd argos.
  11. Theres nowt better than getting the old bike out and a ride round local countryside, peaceful, relaxing, keeping fit and on your own without the missus.
  12. My parents have the cottager ll from machine mart. It took some time to get the settings right but apart from that they are really happy with it. They've had it nearly three year now and would'nt go back to anything else. The build quality is excellent as well, top stuff for the money. They have a detached dorma bungalow with a central chimney and it heats the whole bungalow up in no time.
  13. Stoner is a misserable git if things dont go his way, think rossi will knock em for six on a duke, think next year will be a great year as all top riders on different bikes.
  14. That looks well, how long do they take to knock up.
  15. Some nice stuff there, but please enlighten me, whats a shave horse used for ???? (please dont laugh)
  16. Hi cookie, i'm new on here as well, i'm a chippie by trade but having to diverify a little to keep me going for time being. Finding out loads of stuff on here.
  17. I will be intrested in how you get on, as i'm thinking of getting a compact tractor and wanting extra ideas to make more profitable.
  18. Can i just please ask without hijacking the thread, I have no quals at all in tree surgery, and only have some experience working as a groundie, but that is as far as i need to go as i only use saws for my own log cutting, however i feel as tho i should do a proper course in the basics, what i want to know is what is the difference between doing the cs30 / 31 nptc and doing the same course 9roughly) thro lantra, surley if they are both approved by the hse then does it really matter that one cert says lantra and the other one nptc ??? cheers.
  19. Torne Valley based in Tickhill and Epworth are stihl dealers as are Turner hire based in rotherham. There is also a makita dealer in doncaster but i've forgot their name. oooops.
  20. I get some of my ideas from garden centres. just having a wonder round and looking at how their furniture is made, then i go home and make something better and at half the cost usually. basically just practice till your happy with it. Good look.
  21. Driver cpc came in for hgv in sept 2009, i believe. If you had your hgv entitilment before this date then you are ok to carry on driving until sept 2014, after this date your entitlement will be suspended until you have completed 35hrs of classroom based training. Anybody that now goes for their hgv has to complete the 35hrs training beforehand.
  22. liking the chair and table, well smart.
  23. Anybody that drives a 7.5t vehicle or above now has to complete 35hrs of classroom training every 5 years or their hgv licence is suspended i'm afraid. It is called the drivers CPC. It is supposed to make everyone a better and more understanding driver. There are no exams involled and you can spread the training over 5 years, ie one days (7hrs) training per year. Your local hgv driving school should be able sort you out. The course/training learns you about tachographs, servicing scheduals, defects, smart driving, daily vehicle checks and so on.
  24. DAF every time for me. Try looking at minstercommercials.co.uk they would advise on all things good.
