  1. To get to a country where they can speak the lingo? If I’m right both of us have worked abroad, Is it easier for us if the natives speak our language?
  2. Why? I live in a rural village, there are two cash machines, what’s difficult in drawing out a bit of cash, or if you get paid in cash passing it around. There is no inconvenience.
  3. Language barrier? Most second language is English, please tell me that you don’t think ‘they’ are financially better off here because of our benefits system, if you do you’ve been sold a pup.
  4. The born n bred here scum that walk the streets of our cities, I went to Stoke city centre yesterday, it’s full of them, off their f’ing heads. Those you speak of are here illegally because this government has made it that way, ‘they’ can only claim asylum once they arrive here but to do so ‘they’ have to break the law.
  5. It’s gone modern, our middle kid ran a pub on London Rd, Stoke. The vape shop opposite was cash only, as well as, “anything for the weekend, sir). When it got turned over there was £200k of smack and a grow going upstairs.
  6. Agreed, the local Oatcake shop went cashless last year, petty maybe, but I go to another Oatcake shop now. Personally I’m better at handling my money in cash rather than cards. And I don’t want everyone and his dog knowing my business.
  7. Back on track, The VIP’s 1982 I think, Lyceum Theatre, Crewe.
  8. 1986 Madness, Victoria Hall, Hanley. I’ve seen them a few times since, brilliant live band. No pictures so it didn’t happen…
  9. What job centre boards are those? I work in some job centres and there are no boards in them: don’t believe me, go take a look, anyone is free to walk in.
  10. The Pistols had nothing on SLF, the Buzzcocks, ever fallen in love, is one of the best punk songs ever, imo.
  11. Boom Town Rats was one I didn’t get to see, unfortunately.
  12. Excellent live band, not my first choice but they know how to rock a crowd.
  13. Correct, I’m sure there are more that I don’t recall.
  14. You look right wired there! Move forward 1996, Hyde Park Corner. Clapton, Dylon, and Ocean Colour Scene as a filler.
  15. Yes I saw Stiff Little fingers at the same gig, in 1981 my brother took me to the monster of rock gig at Port Vale football ground, Ozzy, Lemmy and their crew sat into the early hours of the night, our kid got a right shafting off mum when we got home, highlight was a Lancaster flyby,
  16. Speaking to our eldest kid today reminded me of some of the concerts he took me to when I was young, GBH an excellent punk band, we think it was 1984, Tunstall town hall, 13 at the time… This is a picture I nicked off the web of them. Anyone got their own pictures of gone and forgotten bands?
  17. I did say England, I’ve worked and lived in many countries in Europe in my past. You may remember I’ve got a son in Spain, he didn’t appear after a two week jolly to the costa, he appeared when I was working there.
  18. You must live in a different world to most others, I travel all over. England for work spending many nights in digs which means small talk over dinner, not one person I’ve spoke to excepted energy cost to be so high. By the way, if it doesn’t rain here before the week is out are you still right?
  19. Let’s get this right, before it happened you knew Russia was going to invade Ukrain, (yes I know they’ve been rucking for years) you knew that demand in Asia was about to increase massively, (not a hard one to figure) you knew there would be a major fire in France affecting supply, (surely not even you could have predicted that one). I didn’t predict anything, it was an educated guess at what was going to happen, people on this post poo pooed me, admittedly not you, but it’s happened. So, not everyone knew what was coming.
  20. None of the above, it wasn’t that difficult to predict was it, now, how are your energy costs compared to back then?
  21. Can you remember back in autumn of 2021 I said energy costs would skyrocket? I was told I was talking nonsense. How are your energy costs now compared with then?
  22. I saw it firsthand on the water authority, our then manager told me to order anything I wanted (tools wise) to blow the budget so he/we didn’t get knocked in the next financial year. I got a new camera for £25k, didn’t really need it but I’d got it on the van. Absolute madness!
  23. I don’t really want to turn this political so I’ll end my involvement in this part of the conversation here. In the last 13 years the right have tried to and to an extent have dismantled the NHS. It’s about time you stop blaming a political party that hasn’t been in power for the best part of a decade n half for the downfall of the NHS in England, and massive rises in taxes at the same time, I could go on, but I’ll not bother.
  24. I don’t mind paying my tax if I get the services I need when I need them, some years back I was seriously ill and the NHS/tax payer looked after me well, although I did have to get into my company provided health care at one stage to fast track things. It’s the amount of money wasted that grinds my gears. Not firsthand experience but my now retired SiL worked all her working life for the NHS, the waste she told me about is shocking.
  25. To a certain extent, how about this. We pay our tax and get to see a doctor, nurse or NHS dentist when we need them, even as a lefty socialist im beginning to think if we all kept our own hard earned we could choose how it’s spent, rather than paying for services that aren’t readily available to us. Obviously there should always be a safety net for those who are sick, but where does it stop?
