  2. WELL NEWS FLASH: It dropped the limb earlier this morning or late last night..... pics to come it took both lines with it, limb still attatched to the tree
  3. customer would most likely refuse to pay and say its only been half done, i appreciate what you say but come and tell this chap that
  4. this job? or a previous one??
  5. you can be competetive on price..... i never brag about my abilities..... the person i sub for can decide on the day just keep at it and do a better job than the others!!
  6. you know him then lol, he's a strange one i must admit....... not keen on working for him but work is work....... have you been asked to look or just know him?
  7. not really my client but i've been asked to do the job..... the client isn't too keen on parting with brass if you get me..... like you say.... if it shed a limb a while back it wanted attention..... it would have probabilly been cleared up and then tree left as it is....
  8. wires deffo not holding it up just don't want the wires coming down with the limb if i'm on it as it'll be me that has to pay for it! that feeds a few houses for telephone etc..... can i go in and do it even if its preserved (not sure if it is just working with the fact it may be... but doubtful)
  9. Afternoon all, I've been round and been asked to quote for removing a large damaged limb off an ash tree..... The limb is about 16-18 inch diameter and runs about 40 foot...... around 6 foot from the trunk there is a split/large crack that runs 8 foot this tree is on the side of a private drive..... it over hangs the drive and also there are 2 wires running through where the cracked limb over hangs.... one wire is telephone and the other is a black thicker one which i suspect to be electric... my electrician friend is going to have a look tomorrow.... If it is power, it will need to be dropped? who buy and roughly the costs The owner of the house says the tree isn't preserved but i do not take customers word for this but the council's are shut till tuesday.... few pics: http://i513.photobucket.com/albums/t338/Swinny28/HITCHCLIMBER017.jpg http://i513.photobucket.com/albums/t338/Swinny28/HITCHCLIMBER018.jpg http://i513.photobucket.com/albums/t338/Swinny28/HITCHCLIMBER015.jpg http://i513.photobucket.com/albums/t338/Swinny28/HITCHCLIMBER016.jpg http://i513.photobucket.com/albums/t338/Swinny28/HITCHCLIMBER014.jpg http://i513.photobucket.com/albums/t338/Swinny28/HITCHCLIMBER019.jpg the tree has been cracked for the last 2 weeks or so.... if protected can i remove the limb due to being dangerous.... needs to be done really as people walk dogs etc and there is a school at the other side of the field 400 yards any tips etc I was planning on anchoring in high then walking out, keeping wires held back (if not electric) and knocking the end off in bits, then piecing it back in..... Any other opinions/help?? Cheers Chris
  10. it sucks though that they aren't proper cards..... theyre crappy paper wafer thin things
  11. and you to top it off
  12. what friction device did you get etc?? and how much the kit set you back?? looking to get a rigging kit soon
  13. it shouldn't have moved unless loose though.... you tried all the wired etc and checked connections?? also i think 044 coil packs etc are the same?? correct me if im wrong..... you not have any spares lying about??
  14. the 261 has gone to better antivibe like the 361 is hasn't it with the springs appose to the rubber mounts..... i used one a while back with an 18" bar.... i must admit i thought, that will never pull that or be ok..... but it quite surprised me and i thought the 21 was a good saw
  15. yes, but it all depends how much this chap wants to spend The prices of the 261/346 are a lot more than the other saws originally quoted in the title of the thread
  16. flamin heck..... sometimes there seem's to be some bigger machines out there for value for money.... sometimes you get bitten though lol think i'm going to stick with nice light and smaller manouverable chippers depending on work etc
  17. Just wondering if this chipper is a worthy project or not????? or is it a can of worms most likely to explode lol Just wondered considering the price of a jenson usually.... and i know its always best to buy the best you can and always running..... got a chipper anyway just curious woodchipper wood chipper jensen A328 | eBay UK
  18. doesn't bother me at all. just was wondering just how you worded it when you say you charged to take the wood... if they want the wood, i log it up for them and thats in the price
  19. it also doesn't help when firms around lower there prices so much as to swallow up the work either busy fools......
  20. its the same everywhere i'm afraid.... work is thin on the ground in some places
  21. is this what you tell the customer when you go round to look at the job/quote? Its "X" amount and so much to take away the wood..... i thought most customers would want you to either take the wood and clear up appropriatly, or on more frequent occasions they now keep it for themselves, but i didn't think you'd be able to charge to remove it..... Round here, they try to drive the price down with it... of which i refuse to lower the price and explain just what processing into firewood is really like....
  22. just mix a little bit in then? There are somethings in this industry which can be put to good use and somethings that are a pain to shift it seems??
  23. you learn something new everyday cheers
  24. Afternoon all Just after some advice really.... I'm 21 and really keen and a hard worker. I've got cs 30-31-32-38-39-40-41-45 of which i paid for all my self, truck, chipper etc all own climbing gear and all own saws currently self employed I live near skipton and thats the north west..... work is thin on the ground (few of my own jobs and do sub to others but theyre quiet...) and the area is fairly saturated with tree surgeons..... I'm just wondering if anyone has any tips on how to approach companies to offer services as a climber or even a groundy.... (obvioursly the truck and chipper isn't worth mensioning when going "Freelance" so to speak) I've tried a few companies to no avail..... i have practical skills but have no real theoretical skills. I'd even go in as an apprentice to learn all the theoretical side of things but no one out there will give you a chance... What can i try?? or how do i approach etc cheers for any help in advance
  25. one day...
