1.
Hows it bro, <img src="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/smile.png" alt=":)" srcset="<fileStore.core_Emoticons>/emoticons/[email protected] 2x" width="20" height="20" /> getting back into bit splicing recently. pull out ya bag you gave me, going strong bro. Thoughts are they, hope your well take it easy. Climb smooth

2. far out, thanks for the knowledge Ewan. learn something everyday. Chur bro
3. Yup i also did my dass at the Big Asplundh politics, 1.5 years there is some good work there but the world is bigger and the tree work is better. their knowledge of pruning in NZ is defo lacking and no where near enough of it, as to say loads removals as well as OZ. this is also due to climate but still they dont grow fast enough as we are chopping then down. I find working in Euro alot better for the soul in the tree climbing world. Yup tickets are tickets but you will learn something i am sure and it sets us different from the rest, they does need to be something. 3yrs at Myerscough was enough for me but love it aswell. Mog
4. Cheers Ewan, has there be tests on this slippy bugger? or is it recommendation from Yale? @ top climber i say it goes the same for 9mm stuff i think it is basically the same as 10mm know? i love this as hitch cord but i dont bother splicing it as takes too long and changes how the hitch works. MOG
5. last year i was in Melbourne in Ozzy and order and new MS201T from Honey brothers with the shipping was way cheaper than buying in Oz. Anyway it arrived within 5 days had quarter tank of fuel and oil it. fancy that no bother at all, oil had even leaked outta side casing for chain. funny as
6. Bro move to Switzerland instead, better pay amazing tree work and no paper work, just have to prove your worth. Best place i work out of UK, Norway, NZ, OZ, Sweden and for tree work and standard of climbers companies etc. you still need to speak german or french or Italian depending on where you go and they give you 5year visa when you got a job contact stupidly easy. and amazing country i can drive to Austria, Germany, Italy within 2 hrs sick as. best of luck, Chur to NZ that will always be my home but worst for tree work and pay. Mog
7. i am looking at doing beeline splice but dont really like the locked brummel, as the eye is exposed and can snag. i know dip in something to protect it but anyways. so my question is to you splicer out there is it ok to do Normal Class 1DB on Beeline? does the diameter matter also? if not then what are the reasons? Cheers MOG
8. wicked bench, cool caver for sure.
9. Its taught because its a great, simple, little gear, easy to do technique. Loads guys i work with in Switzerland use this technique often on big tree. one of the best ways of doing a redirect, can really get secure at end of branch etc. always retrievable, but tbh i use redirects and other fancy gear for redirects. But sometimes i still use this technique with end of rope, bowline and blakes hitch all in one. now that is old skool but still works mint, when you need it for a certain situation. french climbers climb on two prussik, but i guess thats a whole new thread. Anything you can learn or use is a useful tool, i my eyes this is well worth teaching and when i am training guys up, i always show this. its like starting on a prussik and moving to a VT i guess. Good luck with the tickets, best job in world (most of the time) MOG
10. Cheers peter, not sure which one you mean there? i guessing the rigging strop. Donaghys Blue Rhino sling rope 20mm 8ton break.
11. Got the Bug, Cool skill to learn and way to past bit time and save bit money. MOG
12. Better off keeping it in 60m i reckon paul. always a same to cut rope up, look in bargain bin on HB for some off cuts. Ay drew! surprised by your landyard, thought it be all colour coded and stitched Up. Tut Tut getting slack with all these volcanos and other exotic adventures.
13. Come on bro, just get it done gotta learn, it is alittle bit fiddle with the 3rd core inside. e2e on tachyon? you mean a splice on each end? not good for milking.

crane pic

chur bro, looks like sweet job ay. We got crane job on tomz again, seems like we using it every other week atm. makes life so much easier. i think the best Cut is when say a tree is leaning left. Cut from left to right straight Cut, 3 quaters way through or more. then an angle cut down or beneath what ever is easier, better position etc. Make sure angle cut goes into/overlaps 1st Cut. This is Good cut as it doesnt trap the saw and you know it cut all way through. also you are away from the leaning side too. hard to explain proper without pics. have a go on next tree and see if it works. better than steps for sure. Enjoy the Trip MOG
15. Awesome video Joe, i already got mine and love it. i really like the reindeers in the background tho, nice touch there:) Jim will be happy. Very christmas like. You know when you have the Two access lines on it, great idea. But would you need to cut one line as if the two line crossed a brach in opposite directions i reckon it jam/stop it ruining the climber down? How you understand what i mean, your a smart bloke. Hope your well MOG

Frozen Ropes

Today i kept on falling down of the Tree due to using my Spiderjack. after reading this thread i thought i go and try it out. Its only -2 atm in Switzerland but wind chill was bad today. anyway rope wasnt even frozen just getting there and had snow/ice/slush on it. Used it most of day and it go worst and worst and finally i came down the tree for Saftey. as it was very scarey. amazing how fast you start freefalling. So i suggest you stay well away from mechanical things. MOG
17. I go for the Audi any day Mog
18. ah yeah that will do it ay, bugger rosco. lessons learnt tho ay. @ skip yeah it weirds i have seemed to grow another arm and hand from using bineer's must be some strange reflex. or maybe its from reading BS118 95328 or XYZAFHLA84231 hmmm. i am glad the world isnt like that as it would be a boring place. Keep on reading and i keep on doing. Ps i am very very happy with my wages, maybe its the extra arm? Good luck in the Library. MOG
19. just clip figure 8 underneath the HC/ pulley/ Prussik/ Spiderjack etc etc etc. with a bineer to side D or something simailar lower than normal system. I.e bottom side D on Tree motion works great. could also use smaller bineer to shorten the distance. release pressure on hitch as normal then most friction will be on 8. i use this setup in Pic alot, as you have all gear on your harness already. works mint too. bineer is off my Landyard, pull bight through main attachment bineer, clip into with landyard bineer, creates enough friction to hold you weight fully without the hitch, but the bonus of been safety attached. Mog
20. We do lots of crane fellings, i was just thinking the other day hmmmm this crane hook is also choked? exactly like i do with my Bineers. Oh that piece was 3tons. hook was obviously fine and i pretty sure it rated lower than my 65kn bineer. i realise it static loading but just another thought to think about. Ross just broke a sling, reckons nearly new, 2.5tn, acting as rigging point and didn't like the 4inchs of free fall. maybe he can tell more......... Ay Rosco?? Mog
21. i done my research by doing it on the job. now that is fact and whats even better is that i get paid for it, how about that:) i am sure you didnt answered any of my questions there. i wasn't saying i half hitch and then bineer either.i think you completely missed the points i was making. some of your points just went against each other? (Yes slings nearly half their stregth when chokered but so does a rope when you half & RB it to a log) (Also biners should be held captive to krabs) eh?? by the sounds of it, your system works for you and mine works for me. also productively and safety is very important to me. so far i have had great feedback and productively. My point was of adding up each thing and thinking more inparts of systems. so i leave it like that, happy rigging. i am glad we had this discuss but i think we are completely missing each other and its not going anywhere. Mog
22. yeah Skip, i heard what you saying but you got some research? i have! i been rigging like that for years. thats alot of research with different binneers, ropes, trees, people etc etc. Yes i agree when its huge negative rigging, i would use a shackle. i would love to see this research tho? i know about side loading but ....... halving the load of a sling? probs static too? and most of the ones i've seen are frayed, old and very faded. Rope on Rope? potential for the binneer to the sling to twist in motion and side load? Knots in rope?..... these are all questions and obseverations to take into account of each one and add together, now have you created a stronger rigging system?. this was my point, the bigger picture and smaller details. i am not saying by any means this is everyones gear, just alot i seen and worked with. i agree it can be quicker setting up a few slings at once. but most often its not needed unless you doing Heli work. If your removing a whole tree, nothing wrong with bineer through the crotch until you get to the big stuff. that is quicker than a sling on both ends, in my opinion. i wish i could find out the forces but alas thats not going to happen. i am just speaking from my experiences. i think slings are good for static lifting. You already have a huge adjustable sling in your hand! To be fair i most worked with good groundies and they know how to rig. this greatly reduces the forces and i dont think you get near breaking a bineer. and if you are then, you already know your self thats its dodgy and you should use something else. Education is the main factor and its cool to discuss these different point. Quote.... it is sooo avoidable and at no aditional time cost, it's not even lazy, its completely un-nesisary! hmmmmmm, lol thats a pretty funny quote! Mog
23. i say it will be 11mm to 13mm, just a guess. but 10mm is too small for your hands anyways. i struggle with 11mm without gloves. i climb on 11.5mm tachyon and it perfect.
24. yeah true Ewan! its a mean and big spreading tree ay. when you going to hit with the Ropewrench sub 3.00 minutes tho remember you move half the distance of rope as double rope tec, no excuses;p mog
25. haha kinda got on a roll there, sorry
