  1. come on chaps - man up...... its ok to watch it if you like it, there is no need to blame it on yor sis, or the wife :-)
  2. Now here is a quality cut-n-shut.... Before, boring 110 tipper... after, quality 90 tipper... Nice.
  3. You have to work on you cuttin' and pastin' mate only 6/10 for effort.
  4. I borrowed a stihl electric for the same reason (I am not really that used to having neighbours). Anyway, it was really noisy, and not a nice noise either - but that annoying electric whine. Stopped using it and went bach to using the Husky 338 (after all, it sounds like a foodmixer, and its no use for anything else...)
  5. Of course now you have to put up with crud ads on the radio in-stead-of. On planet rock, for instance, there is one that has a load of people with fake local accents saying place names. god, that is bad. dont know what thet product is tho as i always it turn off about "Dipperton"
  6. Not sure about the better training centres, as you only have the few usual suspects to choose from.... Lynher at Gunnislake. Kensey at Launceston. I suppose there is Bicton in Mid-Devon, and one whose name I forget near Camborne. You know of any more? If I had to choose, I would go for Lynher (but only because I used to work for them) Or kingswood (but they are in Kent ). I am sure you know pretty much all of this already though... Is there an Ulterior motive to your question? A little drip feeding going on, maybe
  7. Don't be rude to the judge..... and don't stare at the jurors.
  8. Chipping someone elses top link isn't as bad as chipping your own. I am reminded of a team in Mid-Devon that managed to chip their own jockey wheel. legendary. I bet they got sick of explaining how they managed that one.....
  9. Having a CS unit dosn't prove competence. Competence comes with training AND experiance. If your insurance company ask what units you have, and you lie, you may give the company an excuse to wiggle out if there ever is a claim. Personally, I think your insurance should get cheaper with each unit you hold.

I, on the other hand, love to rant

    new legislation

Is this from landrover themselves? Surely they have better things to do with their time than mess about with this rubbish. how much time do you think they spent on this? They could have spent the time, for instance, working out how other manufactures manage to get the bolts on their bonnets not to rust whilst the vehicle is less than a year old. Or how to make the optional middle seat in a 110 cost less than £495 (which is more than the dog costs that gets to sit on it) Idiots.
  12. I hear on the radio this morning (I suppose its true, you never can tell, given the date) that the South Downs that run along the south coast of the UK have become a national park. South Downs National Park Authority - Homepage When I lived in the dartmoor national park, we had plenty of hoops to jump through when we wanted to do tree work. Looking back it may not really have been all that nessessary. Has anyone ever got themselves into national-park-hot-water? Or are they really just a pretty toothless planning authority? cheers mate
  13. what would I do? Probably not blame the Health and Safety Executive for a start.
  14. I guess thats kind of my point. I am not the way I am through ignorance of the alternatives, I am the way I am through my experiances.
  15. To clarify.. I once was a "gamekeeper" (in this concept, I worked for a leading charity involved with the conservation of otters. We did the whole eco thing, planting trees, improving habitat, a groundbreaking captive breeding programme, education - you get the picture. Militant "anti". anti foxhunting, anti bloodspoorts, anti cutting-down-trees and pro save-the-whale). Then I got a chainsaw "ticket" and it turned my head. since then I have gone the other way. I have got every qualification for chainsawing I can get. I work for the utilities doing unspeakable things to defenceless trees and I enjoy it. I have had shotguns and firearms, removed trees for money, driven vehicles with stupidly large engines, trained countless others to do the same and, as far as the list of (allegidly) unethical things goes, I am now (as far as this poll is concerned) a "poacher". What, do you think you are?
  16. BOC rock (but not as much as Landrovers or unimogs)
  17. Guinea fowl are annoying.... ....but god! they taste good :-)
  18. forget LOLER. has it got leg loops?
  19. a couple of peafowl is... one peacock AND one peahen. now, that should (with a bit of wine and some smoochy music) lead to a clutch of peachicks, but (as Mr Lovelock discovered) it tends to lead to an awful lot of noise and some of the worst (ahem) poo (ahem) you ever came across. (ARBTALK, fun AND educational). [insert random stupid smiley]
  20. All this talk of gaia make me think of a chap who lived just up the road from me called james lovelock. now there is a sound scientist. ...... once gave me a couple of peafowl.....
  21. Didn't we agree that algae was the lungs of the earth? Maybe algae was somthing to do with carbon. I love carbon, probably my favourite element.
  22. when you think summer will soon be over and the next wet, dark, damp, horrid, winter is just around the corner. God, I hate winter.
  23. I... fell trees... cut trees... climb trees... Chip trees... burn up trees on big uncontrolled bonfires... because I like felling, cutting, climbing, burning. My latest project involves blowing trees up with class 1.1 explosives... I can't wait. To all the poor souls, suffering angst for their tree pruning / planet wrecking sins, Have you considered a different career?
  24. Just as a matter of interest, told by whom?
  25. who cares everyone knows that the pen is mightier than the saw.
