  1. And just in case there are any ladies who want to get involved: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GudcxvmHoyQ]Have Sex With a Guy With a Mustache Day - YouTube[/ame]
  2. Or if its easier to get from point A to point B without going over a branch. Cut it off and move freely.
  3. Whenever I mentioned the danger side of this job, the guy who taugt me used to always say, "It's only dangerous if you are doing it wrong!". There's at least some truth in it, even if the occassional unforseen occurs.
  4. Actually, because I found a cool pic I wanted to share and was getting rushed out the door by the Mrs before I could think of anything else to write in the title box. Probably would myself, might give it a miss on a windy day though.
  5. My real problem with H&S is that it has lost sight of it's goal, which is to promote awareness of danger in a hazardous environment. Somewhere along the way it got confused and is there now entirely to protect employers and companies from litigation. The people who come up with these crazy rules couldn't give a toss about workers well-being. This thread has got me scratching, my head though. I often say criticising a system without having a an idea for how it would work better, is pointless. So to that end, what are peoples ideas for how it would work better in the real world? Yes, it is obvious that H&S red tape has lost all meaning, near-miss/accident reports (or at least the way they are used) in particular. I think an employee who inacapacitates themselves through injury at work deserves to be looked after, but the employer doesn't deserve to lose their business because of it. However, when I follow that train of thought to it's conclusion it seems to lead back to a system very like the one that's in place. ie: 1) Was the employer doing everything he could to ensure the employee had a safe system of work? 2)How do we know this? 3)Where are the RA, LOLER certs? etc.

  7. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PaqUXSvToEk&feature=feedrec_grec_index]Sport Climbers - YouTube[/ame] Can't believe someone thought this would be a good idea. How long do you reckon before someone wrecks themselves on a slip out or gafs their leg?
  8. Saw this on FB. Made me laugh: An old Italian gentleman lived alone in New Jersey . He wanted to plant his annual tomato garden, but it was very difficult work, as the ground was hard. His only son, Vincent, who used to help him, was in prison. The old man wrote a letter to his son and described his predicament: Dear Vincent, I am feeling pretty sad because it looks like I won’t be able to plant my tomato garden this year. I’m just getting too old to be digging up a garden plot. I know if you were here my troubles would be over. I know you would be happy to dig the plot for me, like in the old days. Love, Paopa A few days later he received a letter from his son. Dear Papa, Don’t dig up that garden. That’ s where the bodies are buried. Love, Vinnie At 4 a.m. The next morning, FBI agents and local police arrived and dug up the entire area without finding any bodies. They apologized to the old man and left. That same day the old man received another letter from his son. Dear Papa, Go ahead and plant the tomatoes now. That’s the best I could do under the circumstances. Love you, Vinnie
  9. PM sent. Hopefully not a deal breaker. Unlikely though if you're still climbing on it? Thanks for the many answers mate.
  10. Will definitely take it for a few reccy climbs first. Can you tell us what happened to your friend?
  11. A company I worked for 7 or 8 years ago had one purely for getting a couple of lads to work who didn't have their own motors. Did everything asked of it (which wasn't a lot) and never had a bit of trouble and was very easy on juice. Can't give MPGs as I only ever pay attention to fills at the pump. Could get close to 600 miles on a tank on the long haul. Only trouble we had with it was when we killed the clutch using it to drag piles of branches out of a long garden to the chipper. Entirely our fault, as it isn't built for that kind of abuse.
  12. Cheers for that. You had yours come out yet by accident?
  13. This do the job? [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pOT-Sr5KzsE&feature=player_embedded]Safe-T-Cut® Explosive Clamp - YouTube[/ame]
  14. Don't think I'd use one full time, mainly due to the fact that you would need a lower anchor point on stronger timber, but instead of climbing up to get a clear run a line to AP, I'd say it'd be handy to just switch over in the middle of a climb. Also seems like it would be a very minimalist SRT access set up. I'm all for the minimalist approach. That said my kit bag is getting heavier all the time. Thanks for the link High Scale. Any idea of the size, or which exact pin? There's a heap of them on that site. I have the right page just need to know which one. Quick Release Ball Lock Pins
  15. Would be interested in seeing one too. Really want to see how it works on real climb. Also how easy are those pins to get or where can they be sourced? If they can be attached midline I could see myself making use of one.
  16. Low and Slow with a new set-up is the lesson mate. Glad you're ok.
  17. Good enough for me. Saves a discussion based on hearsay. That fell took nuts. Hats off to him. Amazing the way you can watch some guys do crazy stuff and not miss a beat and watch someone else do the exact same thing and have your heart in your mouth.
  18. I'd say a lot of the high cost is in future maintenance. If they need to replace a section they can when they are overhead. Also the cost of covering miles of cable in armour I'd imagine would increase the cost quite a bit. If they are underground finding a fault can be a major issue. Also the likelihood of people "discovering" them by accident during excavations is increased.
  19. That Journalism stinks... here's a more concise version: Energy firms bring action against woman - The Irish Times - Fri, Sep 09, 2011 What isn't mentioned is that the land was most likely bought under a compulsory purchase order. Common event over here, they do it all the time when building Motorways and the like. Usually people are paid the full value of their property, difficult people are usually given a bit more to sweeten the deal. As far as line clearance where commercial timber is involved, the ESB pay the customer the value of the land, and clear and area big enough so that it never needs cutting again. Jailing her is a bit excessive but she's fighting a battle she's never going to win.
  20. Not on your life. I'm sure I could do the same fell between 2 cones or 2 fences with a dollop of bravado thrown in. Put a shed or a house into the mix and I'd be nearly a 100% certain I'd flatten the house. You know of this lad Steve? Lucky over-confident fell or very skilled and well judged? I work with a guy who would probaby attempt that, and have seen him come closer than he'd like a few times to destroying property and himself. I reckon he'll either be making similar videos himself in a few years or have killed someone. He's off to Germany in a couple of weeks so luckily he'll be out of my hair.
  21. Like most things, if it's not bothering you and your hearing is fine why get checked out? I can see the waves from my living room so I know quite a few who have had that particular op. Not always without complication. Good ear plugs and a decent hood are a necessity these days, especially with the cold winters, and dirty water. I only started wearing them last year, as I would go deaf in one ear after a surf for a day or so. Hope your op went ok and sorts the problem.
  22. Sounds like the kind of thing that could very well be true. I have worked with a few lads more than capable of doing something like that.
