  1. Also don't forget to add in the few own jobs that they do a year. No contract climber i know only does 'Contract climbing' you'd have to be as fool to pass up a quote on a job. But at £100 a day take out all the bits n bobs is still £300 per week in your pocket for 5 days which in fairness you could be on worse. I pay myself £200 per week so you contract climbers get better than me.
  2. I pay £100 for climbers and there are to be fair lots around for that price. I know we all are looking at prices as a new tax year is on. But i have a lot of people who have contacted me offering that rate, i think as the job we do we are worth more but people are still struggling and keeping costs low. I think that people are still wary with prices and investing as were just waiting to see how deep these cuts hit through to us. Right flack jacket is on.
  3. Glad your ok fella and there was something wet to dive into, could of been very serious. Childhood taught me that the game of petrol and matches isn't clever. I use diesel and one of those butane weed burner sticks to light it, keeps me a meter away from the flames.
  4. I prefer to take the kid at Christmas approach  Have you seen all the pictures for the old one on google?
  5. Cheers Yvonne, Hat and glove turned up today and are much appreciated. Thanks again
  6. They end up being so close together that as a self employed it can effect cash flow a month or so later. Cutters & Climbers, Three counties, Yorkshire and Highland this year. Then cutters & climbers, Woodfest, (one of choice) and Royal welsh next. You going to have a go? Its fun:thumbup1:
  7. I love to put logos on things:blushing:. Yeah i can't wait i know summer is on the way so i guess i can wait a bit longer but am going to get some yellow ones for winter.
  8. More interested on the curved edges to see if the rope abrasion is reduced, unlike my isc cast block which glazed/frayed a section on its edge.
  9. Rupe will you give us an update on how i performs. So far i've seen Tommer giving it the thumbs up so one or two more might make me part with some dosh.
  10. Anyone know? Also what changes have been made?
  11. Video Editing Software - Movie Maker and Video Editor Download Free
  12. it has a free download to start with i used to do it in this then re-open it in windows, although buying the package only cost £30
  13. Just re-looked through all the pictures and well to me looking at the lad and his posture it seems as the pictures progress his body language relax's and it then gives this relaxed and confident picture like the 1st climbing one to the one where he's doing the reduction and giving a thumbs up.
  14. Windows movie maker/live i don't know. I have a sony program and a videopad program both of which i can input data length prior to adding any photo's. I think for the deadwood video i had about 198 frames i did add each one individually as i stupidly re-named the file so i lost the correct order. Took me a coupler of evenings when i could be bothered to add to it. The reduction one took 10 minutes tops. Going to time lapse an ash reduction this friday.
  15. Depends on what your doing i put it on 2-5 seconds for removals and 10 upwards for reductions and stuff that takes a little longer to put together. I found reducing picture frame time on the movie maker to 0.5-0.64 give the best flowing footage. It takes a while to put together but i find this form of footage more potential client friendly. Enjoy putting it together the end result always makes me glad i spent an hour doing it.
  16. Not defensively, just found your first comments rather rude and your point came across as a jib rather than a question. There was no way to reduce tips as i had said earlier, security view vistas and public highway, from what you can see are cars parked on the other side of the road. Now if im asked to prune a tree with no spec it depends on what is needed to achieve the desired results, light in garden im more likely to recommend a reduction of the crown or a thin. In a small garden like a terrace house it might be removal or even a raise to gain some light under the tree.
  17. Heres one which we ended up taking lower as the Broads Authority decided they didn't like the risk of it hitting the house. Bonus being paid twice tho
  18. That lad seems to of had a golden oppertunity that i am even envoius of. Im sure hes got a head start and experience on a lot of lads his age! Best of luck on him in the future hope in a few years you'll be able to catch up with him and find out where his arb career has lead him. I got a ring tailed lemur hung me this week at a zoo near me and it was an amazing experience although im sure it couldn't tell the difference if i was a man covered in woodchip or a tree. Best of Luck to the lad.
  19. Also you still haven't answered the facts i gave you so i'll paste them here; A) Roadside raise was to 5.25m which is a common highway spec B) Parking side the lowest tips were only 3.25m as specified by the client C) 7+ meters right D) Butchering the tree! D.1) Butchers are highly skilled people D.2) I find your comment highly disrespectful E) It is important to allow passing police and securtiy companies to have clear sight across areas without risking walking into a situation. F) Stripped the tree? No no ring barking going on here fella. G) the tree was probably only 12-13m high in total.
  20. Here's something that might completly blow your mind Coronet cuts and wildlife creation. Veteran Oak Creation | Facebook
  21. So im guessing reducing the crowns shape and thinning also allow light through and cause all these problems?????? Anyway, there is a lot of info on raising trees just look on any arb information exchange site or read any books. What you seem to be angling towards is over raising the tree??? Like i said the tree spec was just over 5m roadside and just over 3m carpark side. Crown raising cannot be evil as you imply as well its in our British Standards, Good pruning guides, National Joint Utillities Group, advice leaflets etc, etc. I guess your trying to put me down because my video's are better than yours:confused1: Anyway to your last question If im paid to Crown raise a tree i will raise the crown to the specified height, not leaving it look like i couldn't be bothered to leave it looking aesthetically good. Lets be honest here trees will manage themselves it is us humans who think they need managing:biggrin:. I guess if you do Crown raising like you preach thats why you mainly have videos of felling? Im not going to bow down to you and your obviously self obsessed opinions about how i should work like you, next you'll ask me to buy a bucket truck and marry you. I would like to ask you then if your all great and most excellent. Can you please post pictures or a video of one of YOUR raises not tell me im wrong then post a video of you leaving a stub. I look forward to seeing your video as well as your published paper on how crown raising is wrong and all trees will die if we do it and then the world will collapse into a black hole created by my pruning cut. All my love x x x x x x
  22. I really don't understand why you always seem to slam other peoples work. If you think your work is better than everyone elses then thats fine i really am not bothered. I know you understanding of this site is completly wrong as you would of realized if you had read my earlier response. I wasn't bigging up my work in any way but just showing some time lapse videos for people to see not trying to force a way of felling a tree on people. Crown lifting is required work within an urban, non urban and highways areas. Would you expect your wife, boyfriend, partner, son or daughter to walk on the road where they could potentially get hit by a car? I wouldn't. The overall loss of phototropic material is minimal in the bigger picture and the small epicormics have always been manged in that way. I guess if you ideoligy of pruning is correct and everyone else is doing it wrong because we can only follow published papers from reserch then i guess Mister you better get writing and publishing then we can all change! Good luck with you reserch and im awaiting the first copy for reading. Although you might be better off selling the raise to you clients and then placing the woodchip around the base which if fresh will have lots of benificial sugars and starch. Then maybe factor a cost in for applying water with feed in throughout those dry hot summers like we do with young trees. Might make you an extra buck or two.
  23. Shade over 28 stone still climb everyday just having lunch in my pic forgot i had my hard hat on:lol:
  24. Thank-you Neil and well done for remembering the bark mulch (as i had forgot)
