  1. Looking for work in the Poynton, Cheshire area... Have all my own kit, saw PPE etc, fuel and oil... Have been offered a little work but been asked to fill out/pay for my own personal liability insurance... I'd rather avoid having to go self employed at such an early stage before my certs. Well until work picks up fully at least... Booked in to do certs mid Feb, CS30/31, so will need a week. Possibly 1 and a half max around the 15th Feb... Any offers??? Please
  2. And when you work for a company using ~5000 chemicals with all the RA's out of date it's a nightmare... I was told by the HSE though that 9/10 times you can pretty much copy the basics off the MSDS and "tart it up a little" with some warning logo's etc... As long as it appears "you've" assessed/interpreted the safety concerns it's fine... Edit: That's not to say I don't understand the concerns, I've seen far too many accidents to be able to ignore even the slightest risk these days... Makes my life a real trauma working for some companies
  3. What's it for, specifically? I'll write it up/lay it out for you if you want.... Did about a 1000 of these whilst working in the chemical industry and my fathers done a fair few 1000 too Jim.
  4. Would love the work but I think I'm too far away being unable to drive
  5. Always wondered what I was doing wrong! Cheers!
  6. Due to get booked in to "BASE" at Cannock in the next week to do my CS30 and 31 in one week plus assessment... I have my own PPE and saw but have been told they provide the saws to save me having to get a 15" bar for a one week course I can happily take a saw to pieces and put it back together virtually blind, so it'll bring me up to speed... It works out at £450 (+VAT) for the training and £195 flat for the assessment, keep your fingers crossed for my guys and gals Jim.
  7. To save writing quotes could you not agree a price with a customer and then get them to sign a "contract for work"??? Or a "pro-forma invoice" laying out the agreed costs and work to be done for "written reference"? If they start being funny just tell the customer it's a business requirement, required under current government legislation From wikipedia:
  8. As said before get an epi pen... Here's a link on various "ailments", most work due to you believing they will and the brain releases appropriate "endophines" to make it feel better: www.insectstings.co.uk
  9. Also on the note of claiming "subsidence", what about the fir trees right next to the house?!?!
  10. If their surveyor(s) "have said anything" they'll put it into writing and provide a copy for your clients assessment... Something as legally binding as that cannot be communicated by word of mouth... Your client has the right to an independant assessment too... Looks like what others have said, the neighbours don't like the tree and want rid of it by badgering your client and threatening them... To me looks like it's more than 10 metres from either property so unless there's underground drainage that's been breached I can't see any issues...
  11. I think the main point being if "something" gets stolen the Police have little to go on other than the 1000 other similar items in free circulation... "One" item registered is unique and they only have "one" item to look for... I can't afford to lose any of my kit as I have no money to replace it, being that the tools I have run into about ~£10,000 at least, and I can't afford a separate insurance policy due to financial circumstances at present, that knowing they are all registered is a bit of a relief
  12. It's set up by the Police to help them track stuff down... Ideally put a "dot" hidden on your equipment, ie on a Stihl chainsaw somewhere you wouldn't normally look Then stick one of the holograms somewhere you can see it... The idea being if it gets nicked and the hologram removed if you know where the "dot" or "dots" are you can get it back... You register serial numbers and a full description, really helps bridge the gap between "personal" and "work" tools... Your registering an "item" so whether it's for work or not, if it's stolen it's stolen!
  13. ImmobiDot Microdot Marking Kit Apparently over a 1000 numerically coded per bottle plus applicator Get registered, I did a while back, just in the process now of giving someone a headache with all the items
  14. I'm sure it's been mentioned before but as a user and a new member here's an idea for a "sticky", it's called "immobilise", you register your equipment and mark it. The best marking seems to be the "microdot", you can hide them anywhere and cleverly too, ideal for tools and equipment... Anyway, here's the site have a look and see what you think: Immobilise The only reason I thought of posting it "directly" is that in response to previous threads and other forums about "people searching them" then if the "annoying woodbedooers" saw that we were using things like this they might "BACK OFF" if you get my point... Jim.
  15. I've just cut a fir tree down, I'm after the bigger bits but I'm not really bothered about the smaller stuff... Poynton, Cheshire... Theres a few bags maybe, still chopping it all up... Unseasoned mind, but it'll dry out quickly indoors... I can't deliver though, sorry
  16. The wedge could have been made solid at least
  17. Of all the places and all the stupid things to do I'm not pro or anti meat, but there are times when even I know real stupidity That's kind of made my day, still laughing
  18. Sounds about right... I knew a man that beat his wife, he then went on to batter his two year old son, he only got a two years suspended sentence and they're back together... The laws changed too much to benefit those tha break it cause the government can't deal with it properly... Years ago stuff like this didn't happen cause of the deterrent, now there's no discipline in schools etc the "younguns" run amok and don't care No offence intended to the younger generation, just the minority that are the bad eggs... On a side note I've seen my fair share of worries over the past few years, some extremely hurtful, some extremely annoying... It's hard to forget and forgive, sometimes you can't, but you have to try and brush it off and get on with it, however hard it may be. I don't sleep most nights, but still manage to function to a good standard

  20. I got one specifically for killing the pidgeons, they end up scaring the other birdies off and stopping them getting at the food... We put bird feeders out that they couldn't get at, so now they just harass the other birds and scare them The little robin that's been coming and going for years, I know younger generation, keeps giving them a good going over though
  21. Definitely, couldn't agree more Rather than "someone" I think that could even be "plural"
  22. Congrats everyone!!! Good cause, worth paying for!!!
  23. Ground work mainly, I'd rather not climb unless I have to... As for slipping get crampons haha, you can get these which clip under boots to give you a bit more grip: Crampons Just went back to a previous employers today to help them "tidy some issues up", was nice to be doing something for a bit. I'd still rather have been outside though... At the minute I'm trying to quit smoking as well, I find if I'm inside all I want to do is go for a smoke, if I'm outside working I don't think about it so it doesn't bother me... You can't chuck fag ends in a forest, so if there aren't any bins either I don't bother
  24. No worries Pink please!!! hehe I fully agree, "if it's not available don't sell it" and if they do "they" have to supply regardless of cost to themselves. A sale is an agreement, regardless, and alternatives are a substitute which should be discounted if they themselves are discontinued... I'm not one for causing hassle, but when I spend money I spend a lot and stick to a supplier, and provide them with a lot of custom from my friends... I had about 40+ friends willing to buy from them, at £1000+ each that's a lot of business they'll be losing. I've advised their "director" as such...
  25. Fair enough but, if somethings not going to be available it should say so... Trading standards to be fair... I even spoke to them before Jan 1st and they said the order was fine and it would be there this week... If they knew it wasn't ok they should have said so, and I would have found an alternative option... Not having a go at you Bob , just the apparent disorganised system in which we live
