  1. The lad who had the tractor before was running 1 off the hydraulics and said it was suited to the size of the machine, what do you run off the machine now?
  2. I'm looking at an oxdale TM400 to run off my david brown, I have been told they are decent. What are your thoughts? I think maybe if it had a bigger table then it would be lots easier to use.
  3. Im looking for a loader for a david brown 990 selectomatic. I cant seem to find 1 anywhere.
  4. Oh the joys of been self employed. Sounds like you have gone about things the right way, a quote in writing is always best as it clearly outlines the work you intend to carry out and for the price you have quoted. I would go around with an invoice and your original quote and explain that you have done everything you both agreed on and if they won't pay up say you will have no choice but to take them through the small claims court! Don't just write the job off that's what they want you to do if they try and pull the I don't speak English trick say that if they were unsure of anything they should have brought any issues / concerns to light prior to work commencing. As time goes by you will be able to spot a good / bad customer a mile off. It's just a never ending learning curve
  5. Good point
  6. I recently bought a tw 190 and the manufacturers recommend "hollow grinding" the blades. Is this necessary? whats the idea behind it?
  7. What caused damage on a Sycamore? natural or mechanical? Also is the black stuff a fungus:confused1:
  8. Ideas please, spikey as
  9. Agree...a tape sling is an invaluable piece of kit to carry on your harness. Re direct, foot loop, used to hold a hand held piece, emergency pole rescue, I sometimes choke them round a stem if there's not a good anchor point for my line. Then there's rigging on top. As for split level cuts it just happens
  10. Don't sell yourself short m8. Its a highly skilled dangerous job with specialised kit it aint easy dragging brash and log through buildings as we all know. i always find that if you think you have gone in low you end up rushing it to try get it done on time and thats how accidents happen
  11. The last company who tried to palm 1 of these off on me wanted me to drive 10 miles out of my way to fill up at a station
  12. We normally fill up wherever we can as where i live there's not a petrol station really close by. How exactly does a spread sheet work? i have never used them
  13. I am trying to download the payroll calculator from HMRC but for some reason it wont work! I need to keep a tight rein on whats going in and whats going out and do more of my accounts myself i think i will get a better grip on things then.
  14. Was around £900 last year that included payroll but i fell that my accounts aren't important enough for them therefore i get no help or advice. in the process of changing accountants or i will be tomorrow.
  15. I normally keep all my fuel receipts and when i do my tax return send them all of to the accountant who tallys them up for me. Is there anything to say i cannot add them up myself and present the final number to the accountant? I am trying to find ways of saving some hard earned money
  16. Do you calculate your own PAYE for your employees? what software do you use and how difficult is it? My accountant has dropped a right bollo*k with mine so i would prefer to do it myself.
  17. Who works on their own and gets people to help as and when and who employs somebody full/part time? ive got a lad part time but i am paying a fortune in nat ins and tax to the point where im thinking do i need all this?
  18. We did have our snap boxes in the cab and them sarnies were fairly heavy!
  19. so it would be less than 700 kg really as we had hardly any tackle onboard
  20. 2004 transit tipper crew cab, ally chipbox on the back 2 men inside 3 saws pole saw climbing gear quarter tank of diesel and ladders weighs in at......2800kgs:lol: payload of a whopping 700kg! I knew it would be bad but didn't thing it was this bad im sure the weight plate says 1200kg
  21. I always ask if they could reply just to let me know they have got the quote. 99% of people do and just the odd pillock wont.
  22. Noticed in the last few weeks something is making holes in the leaves which are then going yellow and falling off. most of the new growth is also eaten! started off with just the end one but now it seems to be spreading from plant to plant
  23. Break it down labour / materials. If they want a good job doing they will pay a reasonable price. I once worked for a builder who on many occasion had customers saying how expensive it was, his reply was i can put cheaper materials in instead of the proper stuff i have quoted for and therefore bring the cost down
  24. Pricing isnt that difficult so long as you know how long a job is going to take. However no matter how good your pricing is if the customer is unwilling to pay it then you have no chance! Most numptys round here are willing to work for peanuts and in return give the customer a crap job. the customer doesnt care because its cheap! and they always seem busy!
  25. Mine are 6x6 panels with 1 inch overlap and 4 rails, already made up.
