  4. lol:lol:,my yard is floating with all the rain,,we ran out of time otherwise we would have defo given them ago!
  5. they took two of us about a day and a half,to get to this stage! one canoe each, dan gilbert (my fellow colleague ) working along side me, as we only had one adze ,the mizer cut the bottoms flat, then a few hours on the chainsaw, a little efco chainsaw with carving bar for plunge cuts, then gransfor spitting axe to take large chunks out, followed up with adze, in an ideal world we would leave them to dry out for a few months, then sand up, but my deadline was by the end of jan,. they hold water alright as it tipped it down last night and we emptied them. there going to be sat on two ponds in the greenhouse, so lets hope they float lol:lol:
  6. well made a couple of props over the last few days ,dugout canoes for kew gardens to be put in there glass house as part of a new display to do with the old botanist`s researching plants.was a fun experience!
  7. cheers tim, Ive got a selection of timbers to mill waiting, cedar, yew, oak, so will swap the log (sequioa) over and see if this makes a difference,? and not sure if te ripper and woodmizer are the same, they look it,will check tomorrow,I`m sure big J can answer this one.
  8. thanks for that johnathan, busy on tree work for the next three days but will swap a blade back to a normal woodmizer one and see if its any better, its an old machine and probably needs a few things doing to it,bit like me:thumbup:
  9. steve I`m milling sequoia which is soft, and the blades are new rippers straight from the box?its
  10. the lucas would be ideal for you steve,, not sure whats up with the mizer,it just is very slow, slows the engine down when trying to cut, the engine is a new 27hp kolhner, and then the belts start screaching! not the most mechanically minded bloke ,so not sure? any one want to come and help?
  11. Ive been using it alot for the past five yrs ben and agree at times it can be brittle, especially the heartwood, nearer the sap its much more stable, which is going against the usual , but just my experience, I have some seasoned stuff in the barn that was milled at least ten yrs ago and this has some felling shake in it ,but might have something to do with it suffering from a lightening strike! As these trees are obviously very tall and felled in four sections, will be interesting to see if the top sections react differently to the lowest butt? let me now what you need me too do!
  12. have a variety of uses for it rob, want to build a tiny house on wheels this yr, possibly a detachable wooden camper for my ranger, then toy boxes, roofs for birdboxes, the list is endless...
  13. credit where its due,John did the majority, but yes the lucas is great for dimensional timber, very fast!

  16. had John hughes in today with his lucas mill and tackled some sequioa butts that nick channer transported to me,:thumbup1:having bought them off treebloke:thumbup1: My woodmizer has being running extremly slow for some reason and havnt had chance to get to the bottom of it,and dont hold out much hope of woodmizer helping(unless i`m throwing £35k at them),so decided I needed the timber milled so it would be of use for crafts next yr, I asked john to mill it all at 8x1 and 6x1 , we managed 193 x 3 meter boards, there not all there in the pictures. lucky the rain didnt follow the pea soup fog we started, I was happy with the result. thanks john.
