  2. to be fair mate, using apple/pear and holly are three of the woods that do split easily, try using bits of yew, sycamore and dead elm, these are more stable, and like above introduce them into the house slowly, coldest room,, not onto of window ledge by radiator!

  18. different woods effect different people, when I turn yew,I wear a mask ,have an extractor running, and a dust cube above the lathe,, my eyes still get blood shot, I now wear gloves if turning lots, this helps stopping the dust from getting on my hands and lessens vibration!

  22. I have the luxury of all three options,,1 =a cheap plastic type, 2 =a 30ft pollytunnel, and 3=a greenhouse,,,,and i still use the cheap plastic one outside my back door for early tomatoes,it works a treat, get 3 plants going, and produces great crops, then we have the pollytunnel, but thats another story,,then the green house, all three work fine, they servedifferent price brackets, !(top tip grow your tomatoes in the cheap one then store the plastic canopy away for the winter!)
  23. my first chipper was one of these and a great break from loading brash onto my trailer and burning it,,, A great affordable first chipper and like most say, sned everything up,keep the blades sharp and it will chip wrist size stuff all day and to be honest you should be logging anything bigger anyway!yes its not a gravely/jenson/vemeer, but its a good start!
