  1. They're already selling easter eggs near me
  2. Same here. Mines has fleas a couple of times, usually from finding hedgehogs or deer. Advocate has always cleared them up quickly
  3. That pinto rig/x ring looks sweet. I want one!
  4. Did this one a few weeks ago. I'll second Paul and say hit it and listen if there's nothing visibly obvious
  5. It seems strong enough to me, bear in mind that Spud has worked his magic on this saw so if yours is standard I can't see it being a problem. One thing to bear in mind is that the chain won't take much torquing, so trying to use the bar as a felling lever is definitely out.
  6. I found there was a fair bit of wear on the rails by the nose quite quickly, I've sorted this by running the chain marginally looser than a regular bar and haven't had any issues since. I do bore a lot more now, especially on bar length or bigger wood. I find it nice to have the full bar buried and not be trying to get an undercut in with a pushing chain. This way you can get 4/5ths undercuts easily without getting a pinch. I did find that it is similar to a 150t for clogging up and not oiling, I'm pretty sure it's just down to the size of the oil feed hole in the bar and the cure is pretty self explanatory. No snapped chains.......yet.
  7. That's a fair back lean! Have you tried it in any bigger wood? I regularly use a bottle jack and plate with back leaners but sometimes on small diameter wood it's hard to keep the jack away from the hinge and stop it picking the tree up off the hinge. That looks just the job
  8. A few months on, it's still alive and nothing broken yet. This saw brings a smile to my face every time the bar cover comes off. It's a ripper. It's power and cutting speed mean I'm going further into bigger wood before hauling up a bigger saw. It's certainly making life easier in the tree. I may go back to having dawgs on it, I'm usually against them on top handles but cutting 2x bar length timber it would probably be worth it to hold a straighter line and reduce wrist strain.
  9. Made a set up this morning. I think the top point could be a little sharper but it's already an improvement on the standard set
  10. On my lid. They fit the petzl head light mounts really well
  11. I was on £21.5k when I left employment. Edit: 3 years ago
  12. I stand corrected Makes it sound even worse!
  13. My Mrs. is a teacher, I believe she's said in the past that you only need a CRB done if you're left alone with children so unlikely to need one for arb works. Certain schools might have different policies though. I've worked at dozens of schools and never needed a CRB check
  14. Say what? I agree, they should've addressed it before bringing it to market though. I'll give you the stormtrooper what with yours being white....... Little bit like the white power ranger though Another Protos fact....MSA Sordins are 31snr, it might not seem a big difference to the Protos' 23snr, but it's just over 34% more noise cancelling.
  15. Ime, there are a lot of arbs who wouldn't know a sharp chain if it bit them. There's a common attitude of wanting to get finished rather than sharpen a saw, often meaning people will finish a job with a blunt chain. Same. I carry a tub of spare chains so I only need to sharpen in the workshop with tunes, warmth and tea.
  16. I've been looking into the ratings of the ear defenders on the protos, and it seems they aren't even adequate for most chainsaws. The 201t is just acceptable, though the dB rating of a t540 is above what the SNR of protos ear defenders can cover to stay within current HSE guidelines. Most saws from the two main manufacturers are above the protos' capabilities. I know we all have variable exposures with vibration, a large proportion of us use saws in ways we're not supposed to, but why risk your hearing to look like a ninja? Once it's gone, it's gone.
  17. I know a couple of people who have BFG AT tyres on vans, and I saw the other day that Cooper AT come in 28 different sizes so might be worth a look. Ime, it's still a van so don't expect the world just from a pair of tyres
  18. Already painted on the go faster stripes
  19. Is that a 560? My standard set don't even look as aggressive as your originals.
  20. Very nice, they look much more aggressive than the standards. Did you have any issues with where the points were located?
  21. I was looking at the 576 this afternoon and I might need to drill the side plate to mount doubles, unless using the bar mount would hold it rigid enough. Kind of like a 395 but without the second attachment. I think I'll try single first, see what happens
  22. I've got access to a few old diesel tanks so materials for playing with won't be an issue.
  23. Do you mean getting doubles to line up Stubby? The 550 is only going to be single, just a bit pointy-er I thought it might be an interesting challenge, I've got the tools and time to try it.
  24. I'm considering making a more aggressive set of dawgs for my 550xp, I was cutting over bar length sycamore yesterday and the standard dawgs were a bit slippery in the bark. I'm planning on splitting an old bar to make them, I'm hoping it'll be rigid enough to do the job. Has anyone made their own? Is there anything that needs consideration? If it works I may try converting my 576 to double dawgs.
