  1. 9k is the equivalent of 200 days work at £45 per day. That's nearly all the working days in the year. Certainly more days than I work in an average year
  2. If you just worked for him he'd be breaking the law. I appreciate your situation and what you say about wanting tickets, but in the long run you aren't gonna gain anything sticking with him that you couldn't get somewhere else. You can get experience at any tree company, you can get tickets yourself.
  3. I had some scrote pull my chipper handbrake on at traffic lights once. As I got out to sort it I thought it was a great way to get a driver out the cab and keep the engine running.... Sounds like it's been lifted off to me, hope you get sorted.
  4. I'm guessing you don't supply any gear at that rate, so nothing to offset against tax. What do you actually get in your pocket after you've taken your tax and ni out of it? The guy is taking the proverbial, and by the sounds of it dodging tax. Cut yourself a break and get in with a better firm.
  5. I feel your pain, my Mrs. family seem to think they'll get frostbite below 30 degrees. In a small room. With all the doors shut. Sitting thigh to thigh with others.
  6. No idea, got it second hand off a mate as a stop gap
  7. Fitted my new burner this morning, it's been running since 1 this afternoon. Lovely and warm!
  8. Cheers, it makes sense being a test email as it didn't have much content.
  9. I've just got an email from "Arbsafe" but from the email address: [email protected] Is this a legit Arbsafe email Steve? Seemed an odd address and it went into my spam folder.
  10. That's a good way of doing things, but rather relies on you having the savings in the first place.
  11. Somewhere between £1000-£3000 depending on how you sell it, who your buyer is, how much more patching it'll take before it's beyond fixing, how good a conversion job was done etc. If it's a good runner have you considered selling the tipper and turning it back into a double cab or station wagon? Might work out to be a more feasible way to spend money and it'll be a lot cooler than a L200.
  12. In the real world, I've not needed to start at the bottom of a single tree in over two and a half years. I've either throwlined into the top, or spiked up a removal tree. Trust me, I've climbed a lot of skanky trees that aren't anything like arboretum trees.
  13. Palm spikes have two gaffs, though they're not on the opposite side to the shank
  14. I've got a two week old husky bar, it's showing more signs of wear than a 6 month old sugi bar. Sugi bars are brilliant, everything of mine is on them other than the saws I can't yet get bars for.
  15. How big does timber generally get for you? Better to have enough or more power than you need than be wishing you'd got a bigger saw. My 395 with the 36"on happily gets through 4ft+ hardwoods, in good time. It was outdoing an 084 in big over bar length beech late last year when we had a run of big beech takedowns.
  16. Never tried a 36"on the 390, not sure I'd want to unless it was running skip tooth tbh. The 395 feels like it has power to spare over a 660, both running 36"bars the 660 feels maxed out. 660 on 25" is an animal but 395 on a 28" is incredible. It always brings a smile to my face using it.
  17. The only thing I can think of that may be an issue is felling and breaking down bigger crowns. It's not advisable to stay next to the stump as a tree is going over, so perhaps kneeling isn't the safest option. The same applies to breaking down a crown on a felled tree, it can roll about a bit and if you were kneeling it could be a problem. A shooting stick or similar might be an idea if you have the option to keep whatever you're cutting off the floor. For other tasks, crosscutting etc, I can't see why you would have a problem, other than in the wetter seasons of the year when you'll end up with soggy legs! Best of luck with the woodland, it'll be a satisfying project.
  18. Prefer putting a 20" bar on the 395 for posts though, it flies!
  19. I've milled posts out of boards, so only 8" cuts max. It'll do it if you're careful with the throttle but I'm sure it doesn't like doing it. Most ripping it's done has been breaking down rings into halves or quarters.
  20. Mines an autotune 2012 model. I've had it from new. It's a great saw and I've had no problems at all to date. The only thing the autotune doesn't like is ripping, it'll die straight out the cut, then need re setting in a log to run right again.
  21. I run 28" and 36" on my 395. I've only run a 24" on a 390. Personally, I find the 395 has much more raw power, though obviously there's a tradeoff for power against the weight. As has been said, vibes on the 390 are more comfortable after a long day but it depends how much you need a big saw. My personal bigger two are a 576 and a 395, sharing a variety of 20"-36" bars. I used to love the 660, until I ran a 395.
  22. Nice. Who's running the workshop?
