    I've got this piece of elm in the shed. It tore out of the tree two and a half years ago and I milled it around 6-7 weeks ago. I stacked it the same as the rest of my timber and it's in the same building, but it's the only piece affected by this white gooey fungus. It hasn't even appeared on another log from the same piece of the same tree that was milled and stacked at the same time:confused1: The tree it came from fruits lots of Polyporus squamosus and whats left in the wood of the limb it came off is now fruiting an as yet (presumably saprophytic) unidentified bracket. Should I be bleaching my timber? I've read about some diluted sprays, and some marketed timber sprays. Could it spread to the rest of my timber?

    Looks like a cross between a distel and a michocan. I've seen it before

    The shortest you can. I make up my hitch cord with fishermans. Tie one knot then tie the knot then tie the second knot a little short, it'll be hard to get in on the krab but once its there it'll be sweet. Works well even in the wet:thumbup: Yeah that's right. Its French I believe. I've heard some people call my knot a helical but it ain't, and some call it a helicopter hitch

    That's a valdotain, not a VT so not the one in the knot guide. The difference is mine is only wraps, no braids.

    Valdotain will self tend and grab every time. Four wraps. Five if you're fifteen stone plus:thumbup:

    The uni action is slightly different, it opens under load, whereas the cantilever of the zig zag could potentially trap things. That said most climbing gear can trap. My swivel has pulled holes in lots of my shirts and on one horrific occasion it had hold of my nipple!

    I do mate, I think you have seen it when we've reccy'd together, both DdRT and SRT with the RW. For fine adjustment, pull the rope out the top, much smoother than toggling imo. Or not given it enough time to get used to it
