1. Don't know the lime but I have been past the one at Kirton. Can't really remember it but know it's a good one. The "reduction" was phase one of a retrenchment plan, I hit it as hard as I dared, though I'm not sure it was as much as I was meant to. Haven't seen it for a few months but last time I saw it it was flushing a new top, seemingly with most of the growth being nodal. There is a metal strap round the bottom church side limb if you get that close, nearly entirely occluded.
2. Ok, so not a record breaker but one I visit regularly. Measured the stem at 52"dbh. Beautiful old pollard, completely hollow yet intact stem. It's a pain to get a good photo as it's surrounded on three sides by other trees. Incidentally, it's the same tree that Ian Flatters and I filmed our rw video in the snow last year
3. There's some bigguns around, you've just got to look for them. Do you know the plane at algarkirk church? She's still fairly hefty but used to be near on 100 ft in all directions
4. Rupe. You say that but no one got mine:p
5. Yes please, I need something that the alaskan can't do, wondered if yours might?
6. As you may have seen in another thread I've recently gained a few lumps of redwood. Some will go for milling but the butt log came up a little short so I've had another idea. I'm (hopefully) going to end up with a castle for my nephews. Work only started today and it'll probably happen in dribs and drabs but I'll keep adding pictures as it comes along. The finished piece will be one solid lump, to include a spiral staircase and drawbridge. There may also end up being an additional tower/ battlements if I can get my head around making them! Hopefully I'll end up with something worthwhile, it's sort of a one chance piece. Either that or it will be the most labour intensive firewood ever made! Any suggestions/pointers on design are more than welcome!
7. Haven't got on to the rest but I'll let you know when I get there
8. A few pics for David and James. Stripped the butt log down today ready for its next incarnation. The first couple show the mycelial felts that covered the entire log just beneath the bark. After stripping and pressure washing, I found an area of cambial dieback, with an attempt at occlusion. The area with die back has a few soft spots, I'll find out more when i start making some cuts. Lastly, spalted redwood?
9. Does it have to be the tallest? I know of some real fatties!
10. I've got a fair few, big back piece, whole side of my ribs done. A few other little ones I did myself. I always fancied a totem pole sleeve but could never take the plunge, everything else I can cover up. I used to have 20mm tubes too but they're near enough closed up, can still force a 10 in
11. Only time it's been running off is when cutting at low revs, but I think that's more to do with the auto tune than the aspen
12.
Yep, found that out! I'm not planning on relying on milling but I've got a big plan of my own to achieve too so it'll be good to have a bigger mill
