  1. I'll de bark it, scrape and sticker, see what happens:thumbup:
  2. No, it's around the middle of the building with timber all round it, should be plenty of air in there (draughty) and there's also a de humidifier in there, for a different purpose
  3. So I phoned the dealer and was told the problem seemed to be that individual saw and aspen. It's been fixed and re sold. I ended up being brave and put aspen into the new 576 earlier this week. It seemed a bit down on power for the first couple of tanks then picked up to normal running. I'm chuffed, I much prefer running aspen on the floor:D
  4. Tbh Daniel, I enjoy most of your videos, it's just a shame that whenever you post them on here, people jump on them and slate you. This cut is something I have used several times, it does work and is potentially much quicker than other options available. I don't however share these techniques with other people due to the level of unpredictability involved. I also make sure anyone else on site is well away from me before trying. If I get hurt it's my own fault. We all know you can do your job, though perhaps in a different fashion than many people on here would choose. Perhaps these things are best kept in the experienced cutters head and not published for God knows who to read?
  5. Expensive yes......worth it?.......definitely!
  6. I would say yes, as long as it's srtwp, firing them up on ascenders only without additional knowledge could go very wrong. But I think they would also need to learn ddrt along the way, no point limiting them to one thing only
  7. Alternate which direction you wrap it on the capstan and if you bundle rather than flake for storage, don't coil it into loops, let it naturally twist to an 8 shape. Braided ropes don't like that, whereas 3 stand does
  8. Don't get too excited, its all supposed to kick off at 11.11:p
  9. I've got a hand ascender, I'll bring it along for you to try, personally I don't bother, just more clutter to carry
  10. Gladys -formerly a 266, now a 395.
  11. Be good to see you mate Wouldn't come that way I'm afraid mate, is Andy going? He's nearer you Might do that if no one wants a lift mate, cheers
  12. Could have been air, the plug wasn't particularly wet after trying to start it. I'll let you know when I've spoken to the dealer
  13. I have a good dealer locally who came out that week, picked the crocked one up, dropped off the new one. I haven't heard anything about what problems it had, I'll try to find out and let you know:thumbup: It would be strange for it to be caused by the fuel but apparently it had run fine on the dealer's two stroke the day before I had it:confused:
  14. Haha, me too!
  15. I did try one on aspen straight from the dealer. Drained the fuel they'd put in to set it up, filled with fresh, then couldn't get anything it of it. Would barely tick over, then wouldn't pick up, then ended up with a stupidly fast idle, followed by complete death. The saw was replaced but I'm a bit scared to try on this one incase it happens again:confused:
  16. As the title says... I've heard it might be one of "those" saws that don't like aspen. Any experiences? I currently run my 395 on aspen and would like to transfer the whole fleet onto it but want to be sure I'm not going to cause problems. Cheers
  17. Haha, obviously I can't, I was working that way a few weeks ago and didn't see it. Shame, I'm usually scanning the horizon for big trees!
  18. Bit of a trek for me but I'll see if I can get down. Anyone along the A11 want a lift?
  19. Nice one James, is that in Thorpe somewhere?
  20. Cheeky beggar! I'm not that old:D
  21. I do think the newer 660 seems less solid, but if they've not changed maybe its just me:confused: spent a lot of time on an 066 and 660's they do seem different
  22. 066 would trash the lot of them but given your choices I'd go for the 395. The new 660 seems underpowered and cheap to me. Heated handles are good if you can get them on the model you go for, helps with long term effects of vibration
  23. Got a 260 that needs a new piston if you want a fixer? Bit strange they don't supply saws, I know there are companies that don't though. You on paye or self employed basis?
  24. That's not the one we climbed is it?
  25. No, its just what I've been thinking about. To create a footloop, tie your prussik, I'd use a Klemheist as it'll bind less, clip your lanyard to it, clip that to your foot as you were. Then attach your hh to your chest somehow, sling, inner tube, clipped direct to your shirt etc. I use a 120 cm tape sling with a snap on, twisted up at the back to shorten it to as tight as I can cope with, leave it on for the whole climb. Pantin on the other foot and away you go. Ergonomically you should be using opposing muscle groups ie. right hand with left leg, left hand with right leg. So lift your right hand and left leg, stand on the Pantin, lift your left hand and raise the prussik, stand in the footloop and repeat. Does that make sense mate? I might need a bit of rope weight to get it flowing properly, I've been threading a 16oz throw bag onto my tail then tying a spike underneath to keep it about 1m off the floor, when you're up in the canopy, just get your groundy to to tug your tail and the bag will come off
