As you may have seen in another thread I've recently gained a few lumps of redwood. Some will go for milling but the butt log came up a little short so I've had another idea. I'm (hopefully) going to end up with a castle for my nephews. Work only started today and it'll probably happen in dribs and drabs but I'll keep adding pictures as it comes along. The finished piece will be one solid lump, to include a spiral staircase and drawbridge. There may also end up being an additional tower/ battlements if I can get my head around making them! Hopefully I'll end up with something worthwhile, it's sort of a one chance piece. Either that or it will be the most labour intensive firewood ever made! Any suggestions/pointers on design are more than welcome!

A few pics for David and James. Stripped the butt log down today ready for its next incarnation. The first couple show the mycelial felts that covered the entire log just beneath the bark. After stripping and pressure washing, I found an area of cambial dieback, with an attempt at occlusion. The area with die back has a few soft spots, I'll find out more when i start making some cuts. Lastly, spalted redwood?

I've got a fair few, big back piece, whole side of my ribs done. A few other little ones I did myself. I always fancied a totem pole sleeve but could never take the plunge, everything else I can cover up. I used to have 20mm tubes too but they're near enough closed up, can still force a 10 in -
Only time it's been running off is when cutting at low revs, but I think that's more to do with the auto tune than the aspen
