  1. Was offer 53p on 500l in London last week.
  2. I had wondered about this and did a bit of research a while back. From what I found the Hiab 055 range was pretty good. 7-11 metres depending on unit, weights in 700-900kg plus stabilisers. At 7 metres it lifts around 600kg. My thought was if you combined this with a defender 110 or perhaps the new ranger in single cab (pulls 3500kg) with a stripped down body. Run the crane off a petrol unit in the back. You would have a very versatile bit of kit. That's as far as I got though!
  3. That's awesome looking.

I wouldn't want to be the guy who has to untie it at the other end...
  5. Maybe you could get an American style receiver so it would be removal for MOT and such?
  6. This is my point exactly. If you know what you are doing then I am sure it is pretty straightforward. As a first timer I'd be a bit apprehensive about putting up a pretty large polytunnel. Especially if I'd spend a few grand buying it.
  7. I was looking at 30ft span 90ft long polytunnels recently and saw these guys - firstpolytunnels. No link to me at all. They have a fitting team and this really appeals. I reckon having someone who really knows would save hours, maybe even days on a big tunnel. No idea on the cost of this though.
  8. Bit a thread revival but I am looking to sell on my Exeter retort if anyone is still in the market. Very reluctant sale as I really enjoyed using it but unfortunately work is pulling us in other directions and its just not getting the use. Its on arbtrader if anyone is interested or feel free to pm me.
  9. I think its drops to £200k from 1st Jan 2016.
  10. I don't think it is possible to increase the value of your business if you are going to stay small. If you try and sell it on really it will be the value of medium/long term contracts that you have. Equipment depreciates and you are not guaranteed to be able to sell it on for anywhere near what you want. If you buy land as business then still pay tax on the profit. There is the possibility of diversifying into other business(es) but you are not 'staying small' as per the question. The best thing I think you can do as a small business (excuse the obvious) is earn and take home as much as possible. Profit of £60k as a LTD you can take £46k after tax. If you are doing better than that then bring you wife in as a director as well and take home another £46k. Then pay off your mortgage as quick as you can. If you are consistently making more than £120k a year profit then go see an accountant and financial adviser.
  11. This is quite a thread and I maybe repeating someone else but for me kiln drying offers the advantage of space. I operate in London where I do not have the benefit of a lot of area to have wood air drying. The kiln allows me to have 36 cubes of split wood waiting to go in, 12 cubes drying for a week which then generally sell out in the following days. I appreciate this doesn't result in a a huge turnover of product but without the kiln I'd have logs to dispose of instead of something to sell. There is also the key eco advantage of keeping a small loop, often less than 5 miles from tree to kiln to customers. The future of firewood? I don't think so. Regrettably I think the future of firewood in the UK will be imported material from eastern Europe/Baltics.

Are they standard leaf springs? I think there are aftermarket HD versions with an extra leaf. You can't legallycarry any more weight but if your tow bar isn't scraping a groove into the tarmac as you drive you are less likely to get a pull.
  13. Hello, any opinion on the Jeep Grand Cherokee (around 2005-2008 models)? Going to be be partly used as a family wagon and partly for work use, mainly towing the heavier (2500-3500) kit. 3.0 CRD diesels look like good value. Anyone know much about them?
  14. I misread that and expected a funny video of a digger 'trolling' another tractor...
  15. I've got a Thor magik 13t petrol from Mlarge. Had it a couple of seasons now and get on well with it. I'd recommend it.
  16. Only just running mine in but I love it - I was looking at the regular 37hp version but I opted to spend the extra to get the guarding and the front blade. Hopefully never need it, but I rather not have 'at least he saved £2k on guarding' on my tombstone!
  17. Not a chipper but I'm sure the tracked s426 shredder I hired had a parking brake on the tracks.
  18. Agreed. There a loads of small companies in the outer London Boroughs who are more than happy to come into town and competition knocks all the rates down. £550-700 would be my estimate for a 3.5t tipper and two man team and there will always be someone offering to do it cheaper. For London I'd be asking :side access or through the house, is the main entrance on up a flight of stairs, is it a red route, is it a CPZ?
  19. Is there anywhere in particular you get US parts in the UK? I looked at a RAM 1500 but was put off on parts availability.
  20. If its for personal use and they aren't in some kind of stately home with a dozen fireplaces is it really necessary? I have customer who use a lot of firewood but no-one uses more than a cube per week. Surely you can do that with a chainsaw and maul in an hour-ish. Buying kit to rent out is going to be extra work, insurance, higher maintenance cost, etc.
  21. Saying 33C here in London on Wednesday.
  22. Good to know. After some 'run ins' off road I was considering fitting some tree sliders and a bullbar/winch combo to my L200.
  23. Looks awesome. Do you think you'll have any issues with the bull bars (from an MOT/'safety' perspective? I am not sure of the legality but I bet its a can of worms....
  24. Looks good. Can it go on the rear? I've emailed to get a price - Do you know a rough price?
  25. Hello all, looking for a flail mower to go on an AGT 835. I'd like to keep it roughly the width of the machine for access reasons so around 1.3-1.4metres. I'll be cutting rough grass with some woody weeds/bramble mainly. Budget of £2k inc VAT. Obviously keeping the alpines working on slopes ability as much as possible. Any recommedations?
