  1. 'Waste' is like 'weeds' - only gets that name when you want rid of it!
  2. Some of those little vans are amazing for mpg. I saw the fiesta sport van gets 78mpg on the motorway and has cruise control. Providing you don't have masses of kit it would be a great run around.
  3. I love a bit of innovation but sometimes you're trying to reinvent the wheel. That unit is powered by a PTO, seems to have a quite a bit of mechanics/components and seems to deal with smaller diameter cord wood. Would make more sense to me to just buy a processor and be done with it?
  4. Exactly, the fact you have gone to a dump shows you are trying to abide by the rules. If you were the typical flytipper you'd just dump it down the closest alley, park, etc. Councils need to have rules but don't do themselves any favours.
  5. Admittedly it is London but I know several people jumping into Uber driving from arb/GM. £15k investment in a decent car but you can £25 an hour after fees and diesel and work as many hours and days as you like. Log on and of as you like.
  6. Same as most things, depends on the guys on the gate. You obviously get some real jobs worths. Would be good if they allowed a little common sense. It should be very clear if you are just using the work van to drop off a mattress vs if you turn up with an overflowing cage side tipper.
  7. Thanks for the replies. I did think about getting without a loader and adding it myself for the wear and tear factor but it's going to add quite a bit of cost on (might avoid long terms costs though).
  8. Hello, I am looking at the option of getting a fullsize tractor. Currently have an AGT 835 (mainly used for flail work, winching & skidding). Id like something fullsize with a front loader to : run a processor off, shift logs on pallets forks round yard/general loading, run a decent size topper, pull a 5/6 ton dump trailer. I do not expect to do more than 400 hours a year. 80-110 bhp, 4wd, agri tread, simple 'stockman' type tractor is what I am considering but be interested to hear any recommendations. Budget is around £10k plus VAT. I did see Jons (mendip) MS399 for sale a while back and that is the kind of thing i think would be ideal.
  9. At my Local dump (London) commercials up to 3500kg can use the site. It's £230 a ton for mixed waste or £45 a ton for 100% recyclable. Pretty damn expensive!
  10. Ha! On 3 occasions when I've been running my retort kiln I've been approached by people who stared at it for minute then ask if you could put a body in there!?! Seriously hard to tell if they were joking. Plenty of nutters out there!
  11. I believe £6k and under is zero and it's a sliding scale between £6001 and £12k.
  12. Local roads or motorway? The first I'd do. The second I'd be uber cautious about. I used to put my mini digger (1700kg) on my old tt85 and it was really top heavy amd wallowed even at low speeds. A motorway ride would be a squeaky bum journey to say the least!
  13. That only centres it on one axis though unfortunately.
  14. I see it as two choices - increase your capacity (more workers/teams) or expand your services. Pardon the pun but branching into different fields can be the biggest challenge. What works for domestic tree work is not necessarily the same for commercial tree work. If you jump into grounds maintenance then it can be night and day. Kit helps but for me GM is all about lots of guys working for cheap and you make your money on the volume. Some of the GM companies I work with have 150 guys a day going round. Very easy to come unstuck. If you are good tree surgeons concentrate on that. Invest in kit. Get a term contract for a council and run 5 or 6 teams then look at revisit.
  15. Never heard of it personally. If you are getting a snake on a 7.5tonner you are probably is some serious trouble!
  16. I agree. I've never experience snaking on plant trailers. Our accident was a lm166. On a 16ft + trailer it does make getting load dead centre harder as there is so much room.
  17. I thought the same as you. My own terminology might confuse this further but the 'axle steering' ones have a horizontal pivot allowing it to 'adjust to uneven terrain. Articulated steer have a vertical pivot allowing it to turn (and often a horizontal as well). I was discussing it on here recently in relation to heavy implements (1000kg lift) on the 3pl as a potential weakspot. I can definitely see why a pivot would be a weak point for a tractor loader. That said though most shovels/ wheeled loaders are artic steer so i maybe talking nonsense!
  18. Yes. Had a go on a fleming agri hydraulic one - Scooping woodchip and spreading on paths. Fantastic bit of kit. If was about £800 for a metre and half one. On the wish list for the moment....
  19. A good link box might be handy on soft ground too. I've been looking at one for my little AGT but not quote got round to it.
  20. As goat says, totally dependent on your material size. I have a zanon flail that goes on my 37hp AGT and it's great on brambles and light woody brash (upto maybe 20mm). Biggerstuff it's bogs down very quickly and you'd end up bugger it it. On a 50hp you might have better results.
  21. I have the thor 13t petrol splitter. Does the job and hasn't let me down. You get 3 or 4 hours from a tank of fuel. Solidly built. It struggles on big stuff with the 4 way head and is quicker just to use the standard split twice. I imagine struggle with 4 way at this tonnage though. It's a heavy unit, you can wheel it about but you won't get far using man power alone. I might be selling mine as I've started using an excavator to load so I'm switching to horizontal. PM if you are interested. Edit - I've switch from vertical to horizontal is what I meant to say.
  22. I could do with some help on ground level pruning job. Nothing too strenuous but quite repetitive. Ealing, West London. Immediate start, likely to run 6-8 weeks. £9 per hour PAYE. PM if interested.
  23. Depends on budget. A well position bill board ad can grab huge amounts of attention. Can run to several hundred pounds a week plus the sign cost. I don't mind leaflets but blanket leafletting doesn't seem very effective. I would leaflet ten houses either side of the house you are working on in the morning.
  24. As a London outfit, we get quite a lot. Good stuff in my opinion.
