  1. Could you get a medium size tree spade in a skid steer /loader and do they one at a time.
  2. The beauty I suppose would be that you could do both. Excess heat from the kiln casing, pipe off the a lot of the gases for other uses. I did think you could run copper heating elements up the chimney as well to get more heat. The chimney used to glow as the sun went down. Regrettably I couldn't make any of that work in London due to obvious urban constraints.
  3. When I had my exeter I had planned something like this. I thought about removing the outer skin and insulation, a few wraps of copper tubing and then skin and insulation back on. Then run the piping to a large tank with a hot water pump in line. Essential you have a thermal accumulator tank you could then run a heating system from. Never got any further than thinking about it though!
  4. Good that it is a custodial sentence but in reality they will do 2.5 years at most. Prolifiant criminals likes this should be multipliers in my opinion. 10 years a piece might make people think twice.
  5. Handy looking machine but doesn't seem to have any rollover protection.
  6. My local trailer dealer told me a trailer is an investment not a purchase. I appreciate he's a dealer! But i couldn't agree more. Ridiculous how their hold their value.
  7. Exactly. Buying a vehicle for an employee to use as a personal vehicle is dangerous territory. Complicated for company tax, VAT his tax, H&S, employment regs. Pay them 40p per mile for using their own vehicle for work use when required. Save yourself a world of problems in the future.
  8. I was told by my insurer it is approximately £23 per £1000 insured for tool cover. Obviously going to be variations and significantly higher if you only insure a few thousand worth. For £10k kit about £250-260.

    Stump vice

Its probably a US receiver type hitch - just slides in.
  10. After keeping an eye out for 8 months I finally bought one. Petrol model with conveyor. Would have prefered a diesel but it was a really good price for hours and condition. Done a few hours with brashy material and it's works a treat. Will be out working all Summer.
  11. Exactly what I'd be asking. One basic ticket in 11 years of tree surgery. Something sounds seriously wrong here.
  12. It may depend on what cover you need for the trailer. 3rd party cover so it is came off and got someone, etc or if you want fully comp so if you are hit both your vehicle and trailer are covered. Many won't offer the latter.
  13. Mine was an ex refrigerated for food. 250mm insulation and stainless steel interior.
  14. You can even put an electric oil filled radiator on one and even on the low setting it has a decent drying effect.
  15. I have several containers including one 20ft reefer. I would not store wood in a standard one as there are major condensation issues. On certain dasy the whole interior would be covered in drips. You can pick up reefer containers or insulated lorry backs for £1500-2000. Go for one of those.
  16. Its certainly wise to sit down for a few hours a QTR and look at what you're spending. Some costs can spiral but as they're little and often you might not notice them. You can nearly always save 5% going through it.
  17. Perhaps it is. They do VAT, annual return, yearly accounts, payroll, pensions and items relating to directorships for us.
  18. I'm only a small business and my overheads before wages are around £100 a day (based on 5 days a week, 50 weeks a year). Rent and base utilities make up the lion share of this, i am london based though. Accounting costs are a couple of thousand, insurance (public, employee, hired in plant, own kit, 3 x vehicles) is around £3.5k. It quickly adds up.
  19. Id agree with this. I am with Barclays and have phoned/emailed my business banking manager from my local branch 4 or 5 times in the last 3 years to discuss specific issues, talk about borrowing, etc. He is excellent and has provided some sound advice. I pay £6.50 a month for my account which i feel is reasonable considering i have maybe 250-500 transactions a month. In the UK we are fortunate to have free banking at a personal level which is why opening a business account can see pricey.
  20. On a lighter note, I had my mini out yesterday clearing some flytip from an allotment site. Mixed with bramble and down a fairly steep bank. Grapple was pretty good for sifting through.
  21. That sucks. I make no speculation about the circumstances here but reminded me of a project I worked on a few years back. Some local resident were dead again development works and initially started smearing dog mess on machines at night, then moved onto smashing windows, hacking at hoses, etc. Idiots, as if the operators/ firms involved have anything to do with planning processes and applications. Just there to get a job done and earn a living.
  22. Great price in my opinion. Also kudos on the machine - The 950 looks like a beast.
  23. I heard Kubota were doing something similar on the mk5000. Tractor with loader circa £16.5k.
  24. I looked at this as it does represent considerable cost savings, currency fluctuations excluded. Could I ask how much is it costing you to ship it over? I assume it can be palletised and form part of a larger container. PM me if you prefer.
  25. I am 99% sure you don't need to be VAT registered to import an item. What are you basing that on? You register for a EORI numbers. Simple process and takes less than a week to get it.
