  1. You can even put an electric oil filled radiator on one and even on the low setting it has a decent drying effect.
  2. I have several containers including one 20ft reefer. I would not store wood in a standard one as there are major condensation issues. On certain dasy the whole interior would be covered in drips. You can pick up reefer containers or insulated lorry backs for £1500-2000. Go for one of those.
  3. Its certainly wise to sit down for a few hours a QTR and look at what you're spending. Some costs can spiral but as they're little and often you might not notice them. You can nearly always save 5% going through it.
  4. Perhaps it is. They do VAT, annual return, yearly accounts, payroll, pensions and items relating to directorships for us.
  5. I'm only a small business and my overheads before wages are around £100 a day (based on 5 days a week, 50 weeks a year). Rent and base utilities make up the lion share of this, i am london based though. Accounting costs are a couple of thousand, insurance (public, employee, hired in plant, own kit, 3 x vehicles) is around £3.5k. It quickly adds up.
  6. Id agree with this. I am with Barclays and have phoned/emailed my business banking manager from my local branch 4 or 5 times in the last 3 years to discuss specific issues, talk about borrowing, etc. He is excellent and has provided some sound advice. I pay £6.50 a month for my account which i feel is reasonable considering i have maybe 250-500 transactions a month. In the UK we are fortunate to have free banking at a personal level which is why opening a business account can see pricey.
  7. On a lighter note, I had my mini out yesterday clearing some flytip from an allotment site. Mixed with bramble and down a fairly steep bank. Grapple was pretty good for sifting through.
  8. That sucks. I make no speculation about the circumstances here but reminded me of a project I worked on a few years back. Some local resident were dead again development works and initially started smearing dog mess on machines at night, then moved onto smashing windows, hacking at hoses, etc. Idiots, as if the operators/ firms involved have anything to do with planning processes and applications. Just there to get a job done and earn a living.
  9. Great price in my opinion. Also kudos on the machine - The 950 looks like a beast.
  10. I heard Kubota were doing something similar on the mk5000. Tractor with loader circa £16.5k.
  11. I looked at this as it does represent considerable cost savings, currency fluctuations excluded. Could I ask how much is it costing you to ship it over? I assume it can be palletised and form part of a larger container. PM me if you prefer.
  12. I am 99% sure you don't need to be VAT registered to import an item. What are you basing that on? You register for a EORI numbers. Simple process and takes less than a week to get it.
  13. You can reclaim the VAT element provided you are registered. You cannot reclaim DUTY. The US retailer should not charge you sales tax as you are exporting, you just need evidence it will be exported immediately.
  14. Yes, that kind of thing. I'd add some skids to I can lift it on and off with a forklift.
  15. Yeah. I have a height adjustable towbar so my initial idea was buy a spare coupling section, weld up a some box section going straight back then angle or channel sections to make a kind of slot for the wheels. Also a section t'ing to bolt the rest of the frame to. I don't think it would be that complicated as it's barely 100kg. Just the vibration to keep an eye on. I'd attach a large chain to it as well incase it ever failed and fell off the back. In a day I might prune 150 trees but only produce a couple of cubes of chip/shred so ne tip back at the yard should be easy. This particular job doesn't include Limes so there are just a handful of finger sized branches per tree.
  16. Really like that set up for the trailer/m500. I was thinking of making a tow bar mount for my m200 to go on the back of a transit tipper. I do quite a bit of road side basal growth. Super handy to be able to stop in a normal space, jump out, quick prune, chip a handful of branches and away again.
  17. Just read about this. Sounds like a kick back and caught him in the neck. Poor bugger.
  18. If you follow the letter of the law then I suppose the company are going to be found liable as there were measures that could have been taken to avoid or severely minimise such an incident. That said you would hope a reasonable person would say it was an unfortunate accident and all parties have suffered enough without fines and charges.
  19. Going to be hard to trailer that about with an attachment - 2850kg with standard bucket. Nice looking unit though.
  20. Useful video - thanks for posting. I have a 516 but hopefully similar.
  21. I've never taken mine apart. Could you soak it in degreaser then put a pressure washer on it? Scrubbing brush/tooth brush for the stubborn bits perhaps.
  22. The cost of the replacement item will be 100% deductible if you are still in your allowance (which is £200k I think). In principle you would assume you can accelerate the depreciation of the item to zero as it has been stolen, which is tax deductible. What is you arrangement for depreciating assets in your business?
  23. I'd agree. I know several people who do 30k miles a year. A lot could happen in 3 years.
