  1. thats proper hilarious, why didnt they leave the willow and take out the leyladii 9 or thujja what ever it is? ..paid first ? what a special client... saying that ive seen the council in saffron walden (down south) cut the top 10 foot off of a row of 7 or so trees( all at 70foot). couldnt figure out why, but they were really annoyed at those last couple feet.
  2. nothing wrong there, perhaps a big wedge in the back and maybe two wee plastic ones in the side, but no...good fell. i use a landrover and use the winch heavily,i would open the landrovers door and stand behind it and put the winch thru the hinge. i saw a metal cable snap on a ship once and saw it fly through the air. you could hear it split the air in two. since then i stand behind my door like a wee girlie.
  3. lke the quote about rbs, was that before all the money ran out?!

just making contact because i run out my bis from Edinburgh too.

was just wondering who you worked for. sometimes we need an extra climber and its good to know folk. like last year when there was all the lighting in princess street to do or a big crown lift jobs along busy roads etc.

  4. joisus! thats a new one. who's he with, 'kneecap finance'?
  5. timberwolf all the way. i find them easy to work on (maintain ) and def get a rollerfeed. i started with a 5 inch gravity feed and they should be illegal as the vibration is awful as your shoving them in. play with your budget, id rather have a good 6 inch roller feed timberwolf and a crap van, with some home made mods for sides of the van. infact id go as far as saying id rather have a good chipper and not be able to afford a tippping van than the other way round. josharb87 is so right about the demos i had three leave it with me for the day demos and saved me a fortune in hire costs before i bought!
  6. def not classed as smokeless fuel. i bet councils will have a re-think as the amount of people putting stoves in i staggering.
  7. i find it useful. yellow pages and yell.com have had best results. black and white adds only, the prices are quite incredible when you get over an 18th of a page. and colour can double the price. if think these days people look at the smaller companies in the phone book. (ones who cant afford the fullpager) every year i ask them for a 3 quotes for different sizes and then i go cold on them and tell them to call back nearer to the time. after a while the sales team gives up and then before entries close for that an area manager calls and asks why you not advertising this year. if they dont find out the closing date and call a few days before. i got HALF price compared to last year...and they'll still have on file the advert you put together earlier in the year. its a bit under-hand but, hey, they sell advertising! one other tip. look at all the other tree surgeons adverts...they all have pictures of trees and saw and that. give them the insurance and certs info and twin it with an asbtract design instead. makes you stand out abit.
  8. hats off! the surgeon looks as cool as a cucumber at 2.10 ( arms folded!!!) ive never thought of felling a butt in quarters...
  9. thats hilarious, the amount of mispelling is staggering and the bidding is loads lower. good post, ta.
  10. aye, i'll add collins too. if you are doing city stuff where there is alot of exotic stuff the R.H.S guide to plants, shrubs and tree is excellent. i know most abourists wont be interested in the plants bit but the coverage of exotic stuff is good. i wish someone would do a good (free) website of i.d. with related pest and dissease and hook it all up together for cross refrencing...
  11. have to say this site is pretty good, found it the other day whilst looking for some kit reviews (looking for new helmet and jacket)... the only other forum site ive ever been on is for when im looking for vw camper bits and bobs and they are abit of a boring affair on the whole, so finding this refreshing! oh, anyone know where to buy old fashioned canvas tarps? ( 'haps' if youre scottish...) not sure if i like being called a 'junior member' at this age!!!
  12. looking for good jacket on var. sites and yr comment googled high, bought it on yr recomendation 3 days ago and found 'arbtalk' in the proccess, cheers for the post... wish jacket had arrived this morning, im soaked... joe
  13. i would get my anchor high, quit if it doesnt feel good, when you have more expeience you might push on further. me and the guys i work with just find another job to do, as a mistake usualy happens in heavy rain. best thing to do is, give it a shot - as you need to get money earnt and if YOU arent happy stop - not if other people are happy or not. take your own pace. and dont live in scotland...
  14. seems everyone has done 10 phones in 3 years or so, being in the trade that we are in... i hade motorolla razer (v3)things went on for 2 years, yes 2. it flips (as sliders are a no-no) camera that has its lens covered and they are made from metal. i would have got another to replace but im on voda and they fell out with motorola... joe
