  1. good luck matt and all the best to your mate, good on him. my missus will be doing the race for life next month in aid of cancer research, a mere 5km but every little helps.
  2. could be worth a try, if it kills the engine i'll tell him to buy a real saw next time. to be fair its only used to cut the occasional few logs so it shouldnt stress the engine too much.
  3. if i can get it quiter then i wont have to wear my ear muffs, they really clash with my leather trousers and studded braces:001_tt2: its used at my father inlaws and hes a little concerned at the noise it makes, it is a bit loud for the size saw it is. its got quite a large port which probably doesnt help, it would probably cope with a cut in power alrite but whatever i do to it will have to be run by my brother in law as its his saw.
  4. how do you get on with the hoses up the tree? mesterh, i was having similar thoughts, one cheap and cheerful idea was to pack some wire wool or the like into the muffler. dont know if the wire wool would ignite under those temperatures though. its a cheap saw (dont all point and laugh, its not mine) and it sounds really throaty like it probably hasnt even got baffles. not being mine i dont want to do anything detrementel to it and certainly dont want to waste money customising it.
  5. after a little advice please. is it possible to quieten down a chainsaw simply, does anyone have any tried and tested methods. all answers welcome, even the comedians who will tell me to leave it in the stop position or run it without the petrol in! cheers for the help.

  13. i would walk 500 miles for you phill and i'd walk 500 more just to be the man whod walk a thousand miles to pick up your saw........ da da dum, da da dum dum da de dum

  15. ditto that tommy. you should always have a second line when spiking on a pole, put your climbing line around the stem below your strop. strops arent infailable.

  21. welcome to the forum.
  22. you big girl:001_tt2: those silky cuts can be pretty nasty, some say silky's are more dangerous than chainsaws and i'd agree to some extent. hope you heel well. just for future reference, carry a reel of electricians tape (the black insulation tape), it does wonders at closing wounds.... at least long enough to finish the job anyway!
  23. not seen one like that before mark, i bet they last longer than the retriever balls.
