  1. no messing around wondering where the scabbard is, no upside down stuff (hopefully), its there, on yer leg ready to go
  2. Elten aquafell are my faves, very grippy when climbing, comfy, even wear them after work when walking the dog (yeah, i have a yo-yo)
  3. Which tabloid/health mag was that gem of advice lifted from?
  4. The winner, surely:biggrin:
  5. You've gotta change those stats around, in a good way, the 65 thing has gotta come down I'm 42, feel 25, are we vets already? Ahwell!
  6. Good advice, I do a search now before posting as i know someone somewhere may have asked the same question. I started with bowline/prussik, then progressed to anchor hitch/blakes with pulley and am now on a VT/hitch climber with a bowline or anchor ( no spliced eyes as yet). Each time I have changed has been a positve move(literally). If you find you don't get on with a system at first, persevere, fine tune, and the results will pay off. Do not be afraid of changing. My next rope WILL have a spliced eye. With the VT, I started with 4 wraps around the climbing line, too loose. Then I tried 6 wraps, too tight, (does this sound like a a certain fairy tale? ) So yeah, you guessed it, 5 wraps, just right! Each change my climbing has gone up a level and feels great.
  7. Can't fault it, I got one last year, so handy. I use a samuari, awesome, and don't find that it slips out of the scabbard, if your saw does then maybe the scabbard is worn. My mate ordered one but management said 'no' as it was not needed, a 'gadget' Get one:001_smile:
  8. Gutted, I bet, but you'll never do it again, will you? I never keep any of my gear close to the chipper and constantly keep an eye on my life line when climbing. So many times groundies walk off with brash as my rope is entangled in it, you have to make this aware to ground staff or they will never learn. If I'm on the ground I always try and keep the rope away from the drop zone, usually close to the tree trunk. A big Homer style "Doh" to you,
  9. There you go, not having kept fish I didn't think about filters or the consequences of power cuts, no wonder you were gutted Hamadryad, I'll stick to dogs.
  10. I found that when I switched to Bio it reacted with the old oil in the saw and looked like jelly( had a similar problem with my truck). It may be ok for SSSi's, but i think I'd cover the pond aswell as it will leave a residue on the surface of the water. If the worst does happen just find ur nearest fairground, hook a few ducks, win several fish, put in pond. no one will know:laugh1:
  11. Jeez, the guy is just acting as though nothing is wrong, " Yup, exactly where we wannid it, on the house, ain't nothing wrong with my sense of direction" haha!
  12. Didn't want to sound patronizing, i wasn't being so. Yes, i agree we are all on differing levels which makes this forum so interesting. I'm learning alot that is common knowledge to others:thumbup1: CODIT- Containment Of Damage In Twigs, is that right?
  13. Good job there, but what does GRCS stand for, is it some kind of rope brake device, am i gonna kick myself when i find out?
  14. I thought CODIT was common knowledge, apparently not Tis worthwhile reading up on it, as said before, Shigo is your man.
  15. Cool shots Frank, I like the everyday work pics, the finer details that we all do but take for granted, like leaving your gloves on a stump ( and forgetting them ) I like to take these kind of pics to though my camera is a little bulkier than an Iphone. Look forward to more
  16. Cheers guys, good advice. I'm sure it won't be long before I'm swearing about my choice of rope, ha! I Like the idea of switching ropes for the different seasons Just got to play with it a bit longer, get to know it.
  17. Good job, we all know its not the best for the tree but we do it, as said earlier "job creation". The tree is still there, personally do not like reducing, topping ( don't like that term) Ash, but what can you do if thats what your client/ tree officer wants?
  18. Youre not the first to leave your lid on the chipper and then drive off, i've never done it, yeah right! I wear a basic Husky lid with just an elastic chin strap which I have no probs with, some colleagues of mine have the Petzl's but they feel heavier than mine. Does anyone still wear the "basic" lid these days because it certainly doesn't affect my climbing ability, or does it, am I missing out on something?
  19. Yes, found it good for throwing and advancing too, after one day's work it's working well, time will tell.
  20. Today my new rope arrived, I ordered Blaze and got Tachyon, but hey, turns out a blessing in disguise (is Blaze similar to Tachyon?). It's the first time i've used 11mm rope and am really impressed by it. Its so light that it doesn't pull (you down) when at height, as my 13mm rope does. I ascended 20m on it and it really performed well, this was was with a Petzl hand ascender with leg loop attatched and Blakes hitch. Yeah, its new (to me) and I know alot of you use it already, but would deffo recommend it if you fancy a change. I have a Hitchclimber and cord for a VT, so I will encorporate that soon and will be flying! We're reducing a huge Pop at the mo (at least 25m tall and spans 5 gardens!) and needed a longer rope, asap, which is where the Tachyon comes in. Will post pics when its done. Any input on this rope, pos or neg, welcome.
  21. Ditto the above, I take it you have seen the kit, give it a check over, if all loks good, go for it.
  22. 5m rope with a blake's friction and micro pulley, serves me well
  23. Today we felled 2 large sorbus, thinned out 4 more all on a small patch of grass outside some clients houses, then felled an alder at the rear of 1 of the properties, I knocked on the door after the work was done and the smile on the clients face said it all, absolute delight. All part of the rewards:001_smile: Did someone mention money?
  24. Climbing trees, chainsaws...what else could you ask for!? The satisfaction when you get to ground, undo your ropes, take a slow walk away then turn around, look at the tree and say "oh s**t, wrong one!" Hopefully you'll say to y'self "fantastic!" and have a sense of self satisfaction:001_smile:
  25. Gernany being a separate country from Germany so these regs may still apply!! LOL
