  1. What a learning curve this thread is, sometimes a little hard to get me head around but enlightening Ive gone from wanting to make a rope walker set up for Drt about a week ago( which I posted about) to ordering a RW,that I got today, and can't wait to try out SRT. Slow n Low to start, there's alot to take in. I would prefer to see the whole set up live, ie, a demo or rec climb, but am positive I'll sort it out. I climb on Tachyon with a HC/VT set up, the RW/SRT seems the natural progression to take
  2. Nice footage, page 43, and a cool sound track Tis the way forward me thinks
  3. LOL, just when I thought I had finished with this thread you go and make me start it again!
  4. Great thread peeps, got to page 16 then jumped here:biggrin: I will be getting a RW for sure and play around with it on a few rec climbs before using it at work. Exciting times, thanks for sharing your knowledge
  5. Ok, lots to bear in mind, thanks guys. SRT is something I never think about, but now a seed has been planted
  6. Done, keep it cool. I'll ask my mate about rock climbing forums as he's big into that, especially ice climbing.
  7. Agree with the gear, could get messy, but you could take it all off I suppose. As for driving with a pantin, penalty points:biggrin:
  8. Agree with you there, simple The rope walker has got me curious tho:001_smile:
  9. I take it youre foot locking then or just pulling yourself up, defo recommend a pantin and a hand acsender. Pantin's come for either right or left feet, although I was using a right on me left for awhile, still worked, lol
  10. Ok,WW, do you mean just replace the Croll with the Pantin, have it in the same position, as I have one that I don't use? Sounds as though LOLER would be ok, thanks DM, thought maybe the bunjee attatchment would be scrutinized I really have to give it a go, seems you may save so much energy, especially on long ascents or short for that matter!
  11. I don't know if the stickers are for ID reasons or just for decor, boys will be boys I just got some to put on my Mountain bike that advertise a MTB forum I use How about some Arbtalk Stickers for helmets or wherever you may like to stick 'em ?
  12. Has anyone seen this rope walker set up? [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-_GUggGMmM&list=UUMUopZ_h5qgwV3YpW4TdIiw&index=6&feature=plcp]DLRW - YouTube[/ame] I was thinking of trying it out, it's a bit Heath Robinson I know but I don't have a problem with that, has anyone used it? Would the LOLER inspector just laugh at it and throw it away? Cheers
  13. Treemagic, love it, 2 attatchment points on the bridge, twist n turn, feels great, light, 2 thumbs up:biggrin:
  14. I've been a veggie for way too long to mention and am at the mo going vegan. I don't believe you can get vegan chainsaw boots apart from wellies which you really wouldn't want to be climbing in. I think you will have to choose leather or not climb. I had to weigh up the whole issues surrounding new leather but tbo you've gotta flex sometimes and think about yourself Regarding Goretex, this is not a material like leather or plastic, boots are not made out of this stuff, it is a membrane IN your boot, coat ,trousers, etc, that doesn't let water in but lets water vapour out(sweat) keeping you toastie and dry, but it is vegan!! lol:biggrin:
  15. Nice one Rob, I was wondering when someone would mention this before I did. Attach the sling then pull from under the hitchclimber, easypeas. I had exactly the same prediciment until I found a link on here. The search facility on this forum is awesome.
  16. Awesome to raise so much for a well deserved cause. Well done Steve(how could even think of not having the raffle!) and a big pat on the back to all that bought tickets and donated prizes
  17. Clearing fallen trees around the borough, mainly rotten at the base. No one hurt, love these kinda days:biggrin:
  18. As said, no paint. These trees are stronger than you imagine. Take your time and learn.
  19. Apply that thought to your daily life, think and trust ur instincts. Lucky driver, will he now go out and discover all about tree's or will he put his foot down at every tree that is approached?
  20. I wear a synthetic base layer, long sleeved, then a t-shirt and on top a micro-fleece or wind proof fleece. Got a top yesterday from Aldi, wind -proof, water resistant and breathable for £10, designed for running but climbing around in it today, awesome. Gloves, Showa Thermo, Cut off the tip of thumb and fore finger if you find things a bit cumbersome to undo or tie or grip:thumbup1: Those neck warmer bands are good to, versatile, you can wear em on yer head or around yer neck to keep you toastie, they soon come off as you get going!
  21. Nice work, two thumbs up!
  22. Showa thermo in the cold and cheap sticky gloves at other times, I cut the tip of the thumb and forefinger off the gloves.
  23. Could you tell us how to set one up under a tree, would make for a quick descent
  24. So long as you didn't get back to the ground and throw it back up its ok:biggrin: We have three of different weights and a spare line.
  25. Recommend does not mean insist it means, imo, its desirable or worthy, so on that basis it implies that you do not need a certificate of competance. I asked our Health and safety guy for a copy the BS for Tree works, "we havn't got it" i was told, "why?" says I, "because they are recommendations, not lawful"(thats another topic tho). Its all a bit confusing and frustrating. I don't want to stir up a hornets nest at work,we are going through big changes at the mo and wouldn't want to jepordise mine or my colleagues jobs, so I guess I'll keep lowering and chucking bits of tree down knowing that I'm doing it as competant as I can, until there is a definative lawful absolute requirement that I need a ticket.
