  1. It wont pay the powers that be to see us all live a low cost sustainable way. always follow the money, and there is none in truly sustainable, eventualy when they work out a way to continue ripping us off for it, like they do oil/gas/electricity (all price fixed to the nines)
  2. No arborist in that video!
  3. Good to see you engaging on this forum Acer, where one can probably achieve more in regards to the bigger scene. I have a few questions, simple ones to begin with Why do I need QTRA over the VTA approach Why worry about 1/10,000 when there is a one in ten million risk from trees BEFORE we even got involved? Could you share with us the process in a case example?
  4. I dont know about wise, ive made far too many mistakes along the way! I see my yoda hat wearing thing has got out!
  5. Awesome post! Took me a while to track down an image, reckon thats the best shout so far:thumbup1: You obviously know your onions:thumbup:
  6. Looks like you boys had a great time! great shots from the canopy too, gives a great view of the spruces throughout the wood
  7. Flamulina velutipes and pleurotus ostreatus (not pathogens by the way) Im guessing psuedomona was the major player. both those fungi are edible
  8. come on you can do better than that! Your just winding up an ecologist arent you!
  9. Gnaeus Maccius Caesoninus
  10. I was digging through a file I keep today, like a scrap book of past notes, observations and memories and came across a little quote that sort of sums up my own feelings on the subject of work so thought I would share. What is your favorite moto/quote, what reminds you to pull back or reign it in when things are less than ideal? I have loads that stick in my mind, many my father taught me, morals, motos and quotes can be great for keeping ones own mind on the right path. Heres one I printed off and even laminated six years ago! it certainly got me through that rough period of going from a company owner to wage slave. Work Well- Work is only work if you prefer to be somewhere else. Work tends to be a negative perception of a task, which we reluctantly approach. Work is only a labour when we forget to see our life as it truly is-an opportunity to be creative, enrich others and be enriched ourselves. When we are able to see work in this way, we find something called enthusiasm inside. When we are enthusiastic we work well and we are valued. We are used as a role model. When we work well it is much easier to say no when we need to, for we know our own value, and we are not dependant on the approval of others to feel good about ourselves. When we put love and enthusiasm into what we do, it rebounds in the form of opportunities and blessings, two of the most important ingredients of a truly wealthy life.
  11. Glad to hear from a fellow whippendell enthusiast:thumbup1: and welcome to the forum, If the lads dont get round to the rope swing this saturday I will ASAP, its not something I would normaly notice, eyes glued to the trees and forest floor! I cant make it this saturday lads, weather hold ups and well behind:thumbdown:
  12. It is not hard to see the the good intentions of the scheme, its what many of us have directly and indirectly been asking for. Jaimes quote above is sufficient in its own right to justify full support from the industry. Having met both Jaime and Paul smith in person, even had a few beers with em, I can assure anyone of the septics these guys are lionhearts and bust their balls for us hairy arsed types. Jaime, carry on regardless, this sounds great and if it delivers all it suggests the future may be a lot better for aging old dogs like me!
  13. reckon your right with least resistance, the lay of the fibers is evident:thumbup1:
  14. simple typo, and dont worry, I dont:lol:
  15. there is a reason the paulownia is called the foxglove tree, its flowers are a dead ringer so everyone loses points! catalpa IMO but the flowers dont look quiet "fluffy" enough
  16. Pictures help a great deal, if there is no obvious signs of cambium death or cavity formation (have you tried atap with a mallet?) dont panic
  17. all good, and lovin the last going to give that a go, but bet a squash balls even better!
  18. dont see it on Oak very often Matt, good find, dont rule out Peniophora quercina in these situations, its very similar looking but yours appears to be forming brackets higher up so obviously Chondrostereum
  19. I will buy that for a dollar, dont rule out Pholiota squarosus too although at this time of year Flamulina AKA the winter mushroom is the obvious choice.
  20. both, might even consider lifting some tarmac to replace with something porus and give the roots a feed. I would leave these trees unpruned for at least 5 years maybe 8 if poss. though cheaper to fell and replace, chestnuts dont fair well under such regimes
  21. anamorphic is a type of fruit body that produces asexual spores (self cloning) rather than a sexual fruitbody forming perfect spores
  22. investors lost confidence recently, the gimmicks are just re hashes of a now dating platform and sales although 2.5billion a week or something like that are falling. the alternative tab/smartphone markets are making some damage
