  1. importing woodchip from abroad? i can tell you thats going to open the door to all manner of ilegal shipments, and is ridiculous on miles alone
  2. th OP doesnt want trans-location via root grafts (highly likely) Pluerotus is omni present, so introductions will only be of a foreign strain to the environment no issues there, there are loads of escapees in the wild from farms for domestic markets. they will have the disred result eventualy, but better would be polyporus squamosus and a stump to feed on, say 2ft hi ring barked at ground level (IMO)
  3. I didnt make it clear earlier that im not 100% on hispidus, that indeed dryophilus is a good suspect having had to look it up as im not personaly familiar with that species of inonotus. also Hispidus is known to take residence on quercus cerris, which as we also know houses other fungi not commonly associated with our native white oaks
  4. So the fungus has thus far consumed all but the most hydrated woody cylinder. I would suggest as long as you can manage the mechanical aspects of the tree form it will be able to live for some time, will now depend on quality of growing conditions, what the tree has in order to continue growing and adapting to mechanical loads. remove too much foliage without addressing soil deficiencies and the fungi wins most likely
  5. it has the look of the greasy bracket aurantiporus fisillis, something not right though, this looks sturdy of flesh and perennial, would be hard to put climacodon on it, or even bjerkandera
  6. didnt ted do some formal halo stuff? I do like this thread, one of my faves
  7. you indicated that there was a canker associated, as is the case with Inonotus hispidus, so rot type may be more of a relation to hispidus than dryadeus
  8. https://www.google.co.uk/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=14&cad=rja&ved=0CIUBEBYwDQ&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nrcresearchpress.com%2Fdoi%2Fpdf%2F10.1139%2Fb82-339&ei=P2xPUYTENYXAPIOfgcgN&usg=AFQjCNGniD-k-vNtnscnJO64HKYSADYy5A&sig2=501mciYWwMcvhhm5aj7yYQ&bvm=bv.44158598,d.ZWU
  9. My thoughts are hispidus just to throw a spanner in there, on reflection that dryophilus is an interesting match http://mushroomobserver.org/name/show_name/2694
  10. I wont break this down for you, you need to see it.
  11. Were in so much trouble:thumbdown: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUUYaTz0Brg]A Silent Forest - The Growing Threat, Genetically Engineered Trees - Agenda 21 - YouTube[/ame]
  12. the meindl boots are designed for a hug fit, twoissues caused, restricting circulation, and no air layer. binned mine after only a month or two
  13. I think your avatar suits you enough:lol:
  14. theres several copies there and ones 99 pound so snaffle it!
  15. I had no idea they was worth THAT much! thats a total value of a second hand transit if I sold the lot:001_rolleyes:
  16. well thats part of it... The thing we have to get our heads round as tree surgeons/arborists/arboriculturists blah blah is that essentially we have been cutting trees for produce reasons for centuries/millenia, its a culture thing. these days things have become a matter of amenity too, and we are all still applying old culture values to a way of thinking about trees that is really outdated for the purposes of amenity and societal health and well being. Trees are more than just logs waiting for harvest, or messy things filling our gutters with leaf, or blocking our light. It doesnt require much imagination to find avenues of income from trees that involve far less detrimental effects and far more beneficial effects from our profit making devoutness. just one example is in the restoration of health in trees, holisticaly via the rhizosphere, there is more demand than you might imagine, but if your only interested in firewood and lumber, or the latest shiny climbing aid your always going to find arbing a limited experience
  17. being likened to a spaniel at your ball throwing whim is unlikely to extract anything other than pure sarcasm! and should I take the subtle hint regarding the matter of my postings in reply to a given subject as relentless and oppressive (starting what you cant finish implies) and not bother, or would you like to ask me again in a less than baited way? he says running off into the distance to chase ones own tail......
  18. do not rule out the potential for vomitted frogspawn, very common at this time of year as animals gorge on the freely avaliable resource to the point of glutony!
  19. Sadly this series is becoming rare! so much so that body language of trees was "vanished"from my loan service and hence forth no longer available to loaners. I have them all but refuse to lose another, but anyone is welcome to come have a read and a coffee anytime
  20. Theres plenty of room for all in this business, you just have to be able to see past "lopping and topping" there is a whole other side to arbing one could delve into that VERY few care to tread. If you want to be just another lazy arb (lazy mentaly) then i guess it will get to be a very crowded industry!
  21. and where the sacred numbers lead gets really interesting!
  22. see when we ask if were qualified I never considered NPTC's Ipaf etc they arent qualifications they are certificates of assessment and minimum competence! Ive got NPTcs out my eyeballs, certified but not qualified
