  1. time for new kit including a new rope, have used XTC for ever, bar a short stint on a cheap marlow rope, fancy a change, like the look and spec of the Poison ivy, any one had any experience with this? also toying with the idea of a spider jack.....but love my hitch climbers
  2. i have a eye to eye tibor on yale xtc tied as VT 3 coils and 2 twists with a hitch climber - if you dont use a hitch climber get one they improve the self tending qualities of your knot, the 3 x 2 combo i use scares the poop out of me but its slick and quick but naff on big take downs as when your hanging cutting through a big branch you tend to creep ever so slowly down.... self tends a dream though if i add another coil its much safer and grabs better but doesnt self tend as well even with the weight of the XTC - verdict tibor prussic isnt so great with XTC..
  3. ah a fellow Landmark shopper eh? i have yet to find another abies user - good harness but with a major design flaw, mines had 18 months of use and where the leg strapps join on the shackle to the rope bridge gets pinched and rubs and wears through and is soon in a state where a LOLER inspector will fail it i.e 18 months, tried to adjust it but there is nothing i have figuerd out and for the price its a real shame, my first harness was a good old weighs a tonne weaver and its 8 years old and i'd still be happy as larry climbing in it
  4. in reference to the bit about using your climbing line, and a running bow line as a back up when chogging down, this is best practice and belive it or not wire strops ARE NOT CHAIN SAW PROOF! though some what difficult to cut but as soon as you start waiving bigger saws around there is a risk, i know a couple of people who have sliced through their flip line and an old boss nearly got through one of the big old swedish stops using a 660. i dont do the back up all the time, but it offers a quick escape should things go wrong as well as making it easier for you to be rescued, which i hope never has to happen
  5. i can tell you a hell of a lot about the safety on the rail clearance work in sweden if you are interested, its the only work out here i have come across that even mentions health and safety!
  6. all depends on the work, standard rate at the momment is £16.50hr for a climber but 10hours a day, though this is for our current gig. From what you have told me with your specialisation we may be interested in calling you in should there be a something major as we have crew with crane experience and such already, but as such it would be possibly the case that your rate would be different. This gig is aimed at Gothenburg, but at the momment we have works going on around Vaxjö and in northern Sweden.

  7. just a note - any one interested must send copies of their certs, just your CV isnt enough as powers much higher than myself have requested proof of qualifications. Cheers.
  8. Saw your interest in some Work, i would need the detail and copies of certs for all your crew. The higher powers i.e the gov' over here need proof of qualifications before we can bring any one over. Cheers

  9. One day left to get in your certs to be considered for the work - we are not asking for commitment just a show of hands for those interested. We have had a good response already but the more the better. cheers and all certs and cvs to be emailed by the end of Sunday 24th of April.
  10. At the momment the system is we will provide digs, usually in a youth hostel or a flat, vans provided, rigging kit etc, PPE is provided by you, and we can negotiate with those who wish to bring more kit over. It would be on a self employed basis only, so you must be registered within the UK. Like i said we can work things out for those who wish to come for short stays of e.g 3 weeks or a month at a time, though you will have to pay for flights to and from. We have positions for 10 climbers and surveyors minimum, so the more people we get on board the more flexible we can become and there will also be opportunities for the right candidates to be offered work on different contracts in other parts of Sweden if all goes well. Please send in copies of your certs and education with your CV.
  11. Alright chaps and chappettes, have the potential for a big contract in Sweden, looking at first glance aprox 2 years work, not sure of a start as it is still in negotiations. We can be flexible and have workers out for as month or so at a time if you have family ties etc. Looking at around £16.50 per hour maybe moreii. Requirements are - must hold or have equal to cs30,31,38,39 though the more the better also must have proven education in Arb and tree care, so one of the following National Cert, National DIploma, HNC, HNC, Degree or higher, Tec Cert Arb, ISA cert, Euro Tree Worker Cert and things along those lines, THere will be work for Surveyours as well so if you dont hold a climbing ticket but have education and proven experience in surveying please also apply. Please send copies of CVs and any certs to [email protected] by the 24th of Apri cheers l
  12. Sweden is an awesome place to work, wait until the summer when all the pritty stockholm girls start swarming you must be getting paid well if you can afford the beer
  13. oops - sorry i said a swear - sorry steve!!! i shall attempt to re-type with out using my potty mouth - i'm on a brake from contracts visiting my ma back in the uk who insists i'm too skinny and is trying to fatten me up. Using the net to order new kit and get things sorted when my next gig kickis of in a weeks time
  14. after some bad experiences of buying costly eye to eye prusiks for using as a VT i decided to try ths tibor stuff ( the last eye to eye i bought cost me £30 and after two days i accidentaly cut half way throught it with my silky and got annoyed at the fact that i could have bought a years supplie of prusik cord for the same price..) any one had any experience with this stuff?
  15. I HATE LADDERS! had far too many hairy momments on them and with them - not to mention when some idiot ran up cut the branch they where leaning on , the branch srpung up ladder fell - he jumped and landed on my head, and he was fat!

    Kit bags

used Gelert, zips bust, very annoying, but at the price, very good. Thats what i'm looking to replace....Just tried out the old stinking 30ltr rucksak - rope fits well, can fold up my harness with no gear in onit, has pleanty off loops and side pockets for gear, really comfy to carry - rain cover. The reason i retired it from hinking was on of the catches on the lid was bust and it was showing heavy signs of wear and has been replaced - The best thing about an old ruck sack - it'll be nice to carry and i can have it up in the tree - good for dismataling big spruces and such - i.e my rope wont be completely burried in seconds and i can throw it down should i need to.

    Kit bags

Alas, my £15 quid hold all is in some what of a porr shape after 18 monthe of abuse, i would keep using it, but i need to move my kit around alot these days, including on long train and plane journeys.....Looking for something i saw this Weaver Gear Bag: Tree climbing equipment from Landmark Trading Any one got any feed back on these would be great -
  19. I bloke i worked with, good climber and what have you, Only ever climbed and still does to my knowledge with a back handled saw, e.g ms260, and he use's his silky a fair bit, but hes quick enough. His reason being that it forces him to get in a good working position and there is nt going to be much chance of having his arm hacked off by mistake, I have had a work mate cut him self bad whilst only having one hand on the saw, makes you think a bit. I think there should be some more training in the cs 39 about one handed use - the saws are tempting for that, though its handy when your in the middles of a cut and you need to scratch your nose or swat at that annoying wasp thats been following you around the tree... Its not some thin Newbie climbers should rush to do, they need time to practice and get really comfortable with the saw
  20. most hoard wood dust is carcionwhatever, so is eating to much carrots, so is sitting on your arse, could be worse you could be a welder - they huff loads of nice fumes every day. If you are worried wear a dust mask - the stress from worry will more likely give you cancer, or the fact that most of the water and food we drink is chock a block filled wit chemicals, or we nuke our food, or that cell phone, i reckon wood dust is the least of your worries - though dont get me wrong you can get a touch of farmers lung from it, especialy chipping dead elms....chough splutter etc...
  21. 1000's of pest and diseases to pick from!! the hard part would be choosing which one! there are some really funky ones out there! I dont think its a hard assignment, in fact it sounds easy, an hour or so in a library or on even less time on the net will give you all you need and more! or just go for a walk around a wood land, with a camera, you'r bound to get some extra brownie points for using your own pics. so stop being lazy and trying to get other people to do your home work !!
  22. now i've watched the vid again in might me a bit much for normal rigging - aweseom vid though!!
  23. look like theyd be good for any kind a complex rigging when you need a lot of slings etc pulling up.
  24. great stuff#! i'd love to get out to madagascar where most of boabab species grow - and only there i cant remeber exactly but out of 15 or so specices of boabab 13 can only be found in madagascar - there is nice little tale about boabab its a bit religious which i aint but i thought it was a cool story any way - 'God created the boabab trees and planted them in the forests - the boabab trees said to go, we dont like it here, there are too many trees, so god picked up the boabab trees and place them out in mountains where no other trees where to be found but still the boabab trees where not content - 'its too cold and there is not enough soil for our roots, So god picked them up and moved them to the hot muddy swamps - Its too wet the boabs trees said, so god picked them up and moved them to the desert where the trees once agian complained that the sun was too feirce and burnt their trunks. by now god had had enough so he picked up the Boaba trees and flung them in to the earth where they landed up side down with their roots in the air and they got the idea so thought it was best to stop complaining
