  1. At the momment the system is we will provide digs, usually in a youth hostel or a flat, vans provided, rigging kit etc, PPE is provided by you, and we can negotiate with those who wish to bring more kit over. It would be on a self employed basis only, so you must be registered within the UK. Like i said we can work things out for those who wish to come for short stays of e.g 3 weeks or a month at a time, though you will have to pay for flights to and from. We have positions for 10 climbers and surveyors minimum, so the more people we get on board the more flexible we can become and there will also be opportunities for the right candidates to be offered work on different contracts in other parts of Sweden if all goes well. Please send in copies of your certs and education with your CV.
  2. Alright chaps and chappettes, have the potential for a big contract in Sweden, looking at first glance aprox 2 years work, not sure of a start as it is still in negotiations. We can be flexible and have workers out for as month or so at a time if you have family ties etc. Looking at around £16.50 per hour maybe moreii. Requirements are - must hold or have equal to cs30,31,38,39 though the more the better also must have proven education in Arb and tree care, so one of the following National Cert, National DIploma, HNC, HNC, Degree or higher, Tec Cert Arb, ISA cert, Euro Tree Worker Cert and things along those lines, THere will be work for Surveyours as well so if you dont hold a climbing ticket but have education and proven experience in surveying please also apply. Please send copies of CVs and any certs to [email protected] by the 24th of Apri cheers l
  3. Sweden is an awesome place to work, wait until the summer when all the pritty stockholm girls start swarming you must be getting paid well if you can afford the beer
  4. oops - sorry i said a swear - sorry steve!!! i shall attempt to re-type with out using my potty mouth - i'm on a brake from contracts visiting my ma back in the uk who insists i'm too skinny and is trying to fatten me up. Using the net to order new kit and get things sorted when my next gig kickis of in a weeks time
  5. after some bad experiences of buying costly eye to eye prusiks for using as a VT i decided to try ths tibor stuff ( the last eye to eye i bought cost me £30 and after two days i accidentaly cut half way throught it with my silky and got annoyed at the fact that i could have bought a years supplie of prusik cord for the same price..) any one had any experience with this stuff?
  6. I HATE LADDERS! had far too many hairy momments on them and with them - not to mention when some idiot ran up cut the branch they where leaning on , the branch srpung up ladder fell - he jumped and landed on my head, and he was fat!

    Kit bags

used Gelert, zips bust, very annoying, but at the price, very good. Thats what i'm looking to replace....Just tried out the old stinking 30ltr rucksak - rope fits well, can fold up my harness with no gear in onit, has pleanty off loops and side pockets for gear, really comfy to carry - rain cover. The reason i retired it from hinking was on of the catches on the lid was bust and it was showing heavy signs of wear and has been replaced - The best thing about an old ruck sack - it'll be nice to carry and i can have it up in the tree - good for dismataling big spruces and such - i.e my rope wont be completely burried in seconds and i can throw it down should i need to.

    Kit bags

Alas, my £15 quid hold all is in some what of a porr shape after 18 monthe of abuse, i would keep using it, but i need to move my kit around alot these days, including on long train and plane journeys.....Looking for something i saw this Weaver Gear Bag: Tree climbing equipment from Landmark Trading Any one got any feed back on these would be great -
  10. I bloke i worked with, good climber and what have you, Only ever climbed and still does to my knowledge with a back handled saw, e.g ms260, and he use's his silky a fair bit, but hes quick enough. His reason being that it forces him to get in a good working position and there is nt going to be much chance of having his arm hacked off by mistake, I have had a work mate cut him self bad whilst only having one hand on the saw, makes you think a bit. I think there should be some more training in the cs 39 about one handed use - the saws are tempting for that, though its handy when your in the middles of a cut and you need to scratch your nose or swat at that annoying wasp thats been following you around the tree... Its not some thin Newbie climbers should rush to do, they need time to practice and get really comfortable with the saw
  11. most hoard wood dust is carcionwhatever, so is eating to much carrots, so is sitting on your arse, could be worse you could be a welder - they huff loads of nice fumes every day. If you are worried wear a dust mask - the stress from worry will more likely give you cancer, or the fact that most of the water and food we drink is chock a block filled wit chemicals, or we nuke our food, or that cell phone, i reckon wood dust is the least of your worries - though dont get me wrong you can get a touch of farmers lung from it, especialy chipping dead elms....chough splutter etc...
  12. 1000's of pest and diseases to pick from!! the hard part would be choosing which one! there are some really funky ones out there! I dont think its a hard assignment, in fact it sounds easy, an hour or so in a library or on even less time on the net will give you all you need and more! or just go for a walk around a wood land, with a camera, you'r bound to get some extra brownie points for using your own pics. so stop being lazy and trying to get other people to do your home work !!
  13. now i've watched the vid again in might me a bit much for normal rigging - aweseom vid though!!
  14. look like theyd be good for any kind a complex rigging when you need a lot of slings etc pulling up.
  15. great stuff#! i'd love to get out to madagascar where most of boabab species grow - and only there i cant remeber exactly but out of 15 or so specices of boabab 13 can only be found in madagascar - there is nice little tale about boabab its a bit religious which i aint but i thought it was a cool story any way - 'God created the boabab trees and planted them in the forests - the boabab trees said to go, we dont like it here, there are too many trees, so god picked up the boabab trees and place them out in mountains where no other trees where to be found but still the boabab trees where not content - 'its too cold and there is not enough soil for our roots, So god picked them up and moved them to the hot muddy swamps - Its too wet the boabs trees said, so god picked them up and moved them to the desert where the trees once agian complained that the sun was too feirce and burnt their trunks. by now god had had enough so he picked up the Boaba trees and flung them in to the earth where they landed up side down with their roots in the air and they got the idea so thought it was best to stop complaining
  16. as a subby - anything i'm a whore for the cash, with in certain limits, you can keep up climbing long hot days all the time, i prefer to start early and finish early but when the work and wearther is good, get it in, but yeah sundays should be a day off, not for religious reasons but you dont make any friends firing a chipper up at 9am on a sunday. THe way i try and work is long hours in spring, summer autumn and then winter take it easy, it usualy quite anyway, - last winter i sat on a beach diving for 5 weeks, this winter i'm chilling with texas buddies in the states - and sure hope to god i dont get my girlfriend pregnant else i can kiss the life style good bye.
  17. hahahha idiots who cant drive in the snow! why are the y all braking??? you just skid - muppets!
  18. keepon with the degree pal it will open a lot more doors for you. That will be more than enough - if you know your tree i'ds and fungi and such. I'd get in touch with consultancy firms -find out what they want, i reckon and you may find the work more challenging - more reporting and surveying and such. Your climbing tickets will help as well - i got offered a job as tree inspector with jut my ND - turned it down becuase when i thought about it it didnt feel right for me at the - though i'm now considering a forestry ecology and conservation course... ISA and the AA tech are both good - plus many others - in short the more you have the more chance you have of landing your dream job
  19. depends onwhat you have at the momment - how old you are - do you want to work whilst studying or can you commit to a fulltime course - and why do you want to become a council arb officer?????? whats your motivation? You have to deal with all kinds of petty bull pap from the public and such - its not a job i would stick my hanbd up for - not whilst i can earn good money as a climber
  20. December and January work always seems to get a bit quiet - febuary and march it kicks off - for all the trees with birds in there are ten more with out them and its not like in the uk where you do lots of confier hedges and such that are full of nests, and you can still prune a tree if it has a nest init as long as you dont disturb the nest.
  21. if you mean the translated tree felling team who butchered those birches up in borlange then sadly no - that was one thing those guys were spot on for was paying me what i was owed - although you my like to hear that on the grape vine the company had gone under. This is for another company in stockholmsland a smaller one - the gig started of sweet as anything really good - just 4 blokes and the boss, then he got greedy because he relised how much work we can chew through - hired a load more guys bought lods of trucks and didnt make sure he had things sorted in the office - another guy who worked with me for a bit is owed about 60'000kr - and check this i just rang the office and spoke to his daughter - turns out he flew to thailand for a nice little holiday leaving me and my mate in the crap for x-mass and new year - i'm getting the Union in on this as soon as i get back to Sweden and my pal - who is thankfuly swedish is helping me out with all the legal stuff. This Bloke is just digging a great big hole for himself, just imagine how its going to look at a hearing - so you illegaly with held money for hours worked dating back from july - leaving your employees in financial difficulty over the christmass and new year period whilst you went on a tropical holiday to thailand....oh and whats this....you called the police to prevent your own soon from reclaiming his personal climbing equipment when he left the company.....and oh you had to call the police in October to deal with a very angry employee whom you had fired and then refused to pay.. I'm going to enjoy watching this bloke squirm its just going to take time so for now i have done all i can so going to forget about it enjoy my x-mass and trip to Texas and deal with this when i come back - i wont be suprised that as soon as he gets the first call from a lawyer or the union the matter will be resolved rather sharpish.
  22. i guess it doesnt allow for sleek lines etc - the wiki link is awesome! the potential for this technology is immense! we are seeing improvements in the growing of biomass. Adavnces in Bamboo and such....I wonder if the Finish guys have plans for building they would sell. A landy word be perfect or any thing with a V6 or V8 if it could be converted would be awesome - i just wonder how long it would take for the gov to ruin it - i use to swap fire wood for bio diesel when i live on the canals. It was a peferect deal a few hours chopping and wheel borrowing wood down the towpath and i'd get my fuel for a week or two, but then the goverment made it so it was virtualy impossible for the bio diesel plant to operate even at cost as by the time they had finished it was the same cost as pump diesel - and i noticed how all of a sudden cars and vans would no longer run on the stuff....
  23. That would be Mint! strap em to a comfy chair. Jet around the tree! be perfect for reductions and tip thinning.
