  1. Stevie, you did all that typing saying that you did this with the boy, and that with the boy, and we do this and we do that - but you still seem to be missing the point. It was all done with YOU! You are what matters to your son - the 'activity' is only details. Bank all of this time - you'll never get the same chance again. And stop that bloody worrying!
  2. What if someone SAW you?
  3. There must be more to be gained by doing so than there is to be lost. ie. photosynthesis versus fracture potential. The organism has many factors to 'deal with' - it reaches the best compromise.
  4. Aladdin Stanley with a wide mouth - you can fill it with stew! By the way - before you fill your stainless steel flask in the morning, fill it with, or at least rinse it round with boiling water. This heats the metal of the inner flask so the tea/coffee doesn't have to when it goes in.

    forks

Might it be a muck fork that you're talking about? Look it up on google to see if this is the tool you're looking for.
  6. Go on ebay and look for 'ESS Advancer' goggles. Military spec. made to work properly with dependable eye protection.
  7. Why can't that man ever say something to which I can reply "Yeah - I knew that." ? And why does it have to be annoyingly interesting? Keep it coming, Monkey D!

I use the Sugoi 360 - anything bigger wouldn't fit against my wee leg!

Many of the Silky saws are 'induction hardened' to provide a low-maintenance working life but the Sugio blade is not induction hardened - so enabling it to be sharpened. I don't have any link to sharpening techniques - sorry.

    hand tools

Hi Rich, Assuming the requested link is for the needle files, and not the ubiquitous Silky, then any toolshop will have them. If you're having trouble, then look for 'needle files', 'feather-edged file' or diamond files / jewellers' on Ebay. They're around £5 - £10 I think. Good luck. Dee.

The Sugio can be sharpened. I find it's best to use a feather-edge diamond needle file (one of the wee jeweller's ones) because the base of each tooth is very near the base of the next.
  12. I'll look forward to hearing about it.
  13. Hi Finchy, I've made a few of the Buchingham-style portawraps. The smallest ones I've made used half inch bar and 3 inch tube with the same bar for the ventral peg on the 'nose' and the T-bar on the 'tail'. It was OK - only. Testing the prototypes on my nephews' workshop gigs it was still only worth using for light lowering. Maybe better than a fig 8. The latest and biggest one made uses 1 inch bar surrounding a 4 inch tube! Now this item is much more useful - providing a better bend radius for the rope and generally more working room. Distance from bottom bend to top bend would be about 14 inches and the tube is about 12 inches. Hope this helps.

    Log theft.

Wouldn't it be good if the thieves were pensioners themselves - and then your dad could beat the living daylights out of them to his heart's content! (This light-heartedness doesn't excuse the crime, Geoff - I hope it causes no offence).
  15. Size 14! Sorry Kev, you might have to look for an old woman with so many children!
  16. Hi Jonesie, am I missing something? I can't find this week's offers page. Please give me directions - at least to the 'STUPID' button!
  17. Interesting - please explain - was the width of deep weld (and therefore the seal) unreliable with the MIG?
  18. Don't just view the situation from your own position and how you would deal with a personal injury. Remember it's good for the first-aider ( eg. groundie) to reach an injured climber and find that he has usable dressings already on him that could be put to immediate use.
  19. Without doubt - but remember, if going for a MIG then the narrower wire (0.8mm) actually penetrates further than the thicker wire (1mm, 1.2mm). The arc is concentrated through a smaller cross section. With regards to the problem of wire rusting - spray the reel with WD40. It will burn off before it affects the weld pool. Using a MIG also requires quite still air - to allow the shroud of inert gas to shield the weld - so if welding outdoors then the stick might be preferable.
  20. Beech - if only to climb in. Then you find it's useful once it's on the ground too.
  21. Hi Tommer. My 10 yr old daughter rockclimbs on a Petzl full-body harness. It's great at preventing inversion, because of the high tie-in point on the harness, but this same tie-in point prevents her from tree climbing effectively - it doesn't allow her to be suspended by the pelvis area and lean her upper-body outboard of that point. This isn't a problem rockclimbing because the harness is rarely 'used' ie. she's taking her own weight. For moving about in the trees, she uses a small climbing harness. If I'm worried about inversion, I fit a light chest rig to a prussic which she adjusts herself. I don't know what you want the harness for exactly, but I thought you should know of the very different suspension 'attitudes' that the two harness kinds provide. P.S. Ebay always has kid's body harnesses for sale. Good luck.
  22. Er.... that's 95.2545kg .... isn't it?
  23. I weigh 69kg.... I walk on twigs, you know.
  24. Many thanks to you, sir.
