  1. spooky have just bought powder 6kg extinguisher, £75, although fire regs say x amount of litres in storage blah blah. how much petrol is left in tools overnight, its not so much to defend the house against fire but may be just enough to get out alive, have 1kg in 3 out of 5 rooms downstairs, mates brothers a fireman its to scary how quick it spreads, paranoid? yes! sleep a little better at nite YEs! haha how ironic would that be to deep a sleep to wake up. ooh not nice thought,
  2. how many days did it take si, i qouted that job they were not to nice imo, couldnt get price right with hoist hire n that, fairplay ness tidy
  3. Incorporated in my new terms and conditions on the reverse of every qoute/estimate/invoice sheet i have this, for the purpose of these terms and conditions a.n.other is a company under The Companies Act 2006, Definition of a large company is 50 or more employees... full payment to be received within 14 days of work completion and invoice We reserve the right to charge large companies (defined in terms and conditions above) 8% over base rate for each late day over agreed time limit.. This rate is set by The late payments of commercial debts (interest) Act 1998, i have found that its normally enough to make most domestic customers realise that we know the system, and they will sign prior to work comencement to accept said terms, im sole trader and this is feasible for me to do,
  4. enjoy the stag wath for the used contraceptives in the sea
  5. there was a demonstration of something similiar at the trade fair on the satday afternoon, it commented highly on the excessive forces that would be exerted on the supporting trees, something that they were very concerned about to, id contact the company that did demo, was more so in reference to rainforest rescue or something, was pretty cool and to be honest the system they used lends itself completely to this situ, id be using pallets ply board then brash mat it, total coverage and very time consuming, parents will be proud, lol
  6. now thats a impressive system, does it result in lots of downtime for the company if staff do not carry out full proceedure, i like the thought but to what extent is it based on number of staff employed, are you a large co. then for this to be implementable.
  7. you need to stand a bit firmer with this, its not something i enjoy doing either, maybe in this case you may be best advised to re-ring and speak to the husband direct, tell him that you have done a job as requested, did you itemise the price over the phone, because as we all know pollarding cherries is easier and cheaper and the time you would have saved by not having to do as exceptional job like on birch would make up for the increased amount of rubbish, basically if the birch was 200 and cherry 150, but you never told them this then tell them that cherry was 85 and birch was 265 please, and also in addition you would need to return the cherry as you have not been paid to do the job, its there property, what ever you decide to do make sure that it is right for you, and that if you let it go it wont eat away at you, you wont lose work of it, the neighbours are already aware that they are trying to rob you, they have a legal duty to pay you in full and then you can make good the remainder of the work i.e fell cherry and replant at your cost, depends how stubborn you are and time and effort you want to waste on it. if you do meet up with them take great pleasure in winding him up. if he clobbers you sue the 3 card trick, sorry for rant i dont post that often but had bad day and this riles me
  8. ive watched for many a month equipment come and go out of your works arsenal, but that is an intriguingly good bit of kit, am i right in thinking, that your kind of skylining that timber via the pulley on winch, well impressed,
  9. the type of questions you need to be asking or finding answers to are: was the tree there prior to construction of foundations etc is the soil a 'shrinkable' clay When was the house built, prior to 1975?? foundation depths were 0.4m deep. after that went to 0.9m, will the tree roots be influencing the soil water content to a depth that could affect the foundations, called zone of influence i think, well most roots function within top 600mm of surface layer, if tree was there prior to construction then by removing it your chances of soil heave are increased as the foundations were founded on the previously shrunk soil, due to presence of tree, and be aware that heave can take upto 25 yr to arise its really not the kind of thing you just answer without suitable experience, and no man would give a opinion for you to go away with and say this that and tother, its a mine field, protect your integrity and put him in touch with someone of suitable experience imho
  10. i did nd.arb in 1997, six years ago i went backwards and took rfs cert arb, very good qual for hands-on stuff at arborist level, infact, tbh most academics would struggle to pass it as its very hands on,and practical knowledge based, then in sept 2008 started tech cert, tbh i felt that i had to go backwards to regain it all again, so did tech cert, which is the same as nd,arb at the moment, level 3. im now doing prof dip arb, and 1 thing that is evident is that the higher up the levels you go the more it is deemed that you know all the science stuff, at level six we have'nt even looked at parenchyma cells etc as its assumed that this is your basic knowledge, its very strange how it works tbh, and the higher up you go the more irrelevant such stuff becomes, having done all levels i have better grasp of it all, but really wouldnt have wanted to drop onto prof dip without doing tech cert first, the managemnet of stuff is different from knowing about the stuff, takes long time to adjust to that way of thinking, and tech cert really is very good for going on to the 5 plus levels guess depends how long ago you did nd,arb, and also how long you have,im 32 so age wasnt that big a factor i have good few years climbing before an=y of this is going to be used in consultancy full-time
  11. speak to dave kendall at liston and ask him about the tap and turn system, it does what it says on the tin, full tooth change on sp2010 in ten minutes, 16 teeth, and im a bit meticulous with the wire brush prior to it to as well!!! happy gilmore style tap tap taparoo
  12. ad15, im pretty sure that under occupiers liability the tree owner has a duty of care to persons entering there land, and also to those within in the vicinity of the land, should any endangerment come from any structure contained within his property/boundary, i guess to further substantiate this possibility that he is responsible for any overhang, you could look at how a tree owner can be made to prune back overhaging veg in sect.154 highways act, different situ i know but he has a duty to maintain his property to a satisfactory safe manner or do such that he restricts/reduces risk by preventing access,or harm occuring what anyone else think??
  13. after my rant i re-read the whole thread and any additions, it came accross initially as the number was given out in an under hand manner, clearly acknowledgement of said mistake has been made, end of the matter if it was me who owned the company, "dont do that again to people who are hiring my company/customers, the beers are on you, simples,"
  14. i was going to sign out because i couldnt be bothered to read anymore, but this made and makes my blood boil, id tell him that you do not appreciate the fact that he has abused his trusted position, clearly he has no respect for you or your trading customers, he doesnt see the problem because hes either a,thick b,selfish, he not only undermines your position as his "boss" for that day, but he belittles your service provision to your customer, i imagine he would be cheaper than you, and in the customers eyes she doesnt see your overheads, and it makes the customer think that she pays you to much, regardless of how competitive you are, tell him that he has bit the hand that feeds him and he will not be working for you again. do not write anything about this to him, say it face to face or down the phone,as i wouldnt put it past him to show your customer to further belittle your service i personally would get eaten up by not saying my bit, others would say dont say a word just dont use him again, either way death him, every time you wanted to speak to your customers he will be floating about and you wont be able to concentrate on your customers wishes, blimey that feels better lol
  15. whats a norton 3x wheel thought they had to be round ground, at least liquid ground, or is this just supplier myth
  16. really nice pics there of what looks like a very efficient team in action, always nice to see ground staff keeping site clean during job as well as after, takes the strain out the job when you got conscientious team around you, very motivating to see the good climbing/cutting positions that are being made on the forum, makes you strive for the better work practice, something to aspire to and stop the complacency, fairplay, nice job all round there if you ask me
  17. it appeared that there was a fair bit of branch removed, guess i would have pruned off property a bit more sympathetically, back to the old customer wishes question again really, was once told never to judge treework as you dont know what was like before any work was done,
  18. ah ha now i can mock a plenty_tt2: and thers a more section.wow im so going to sleep well tonight, fantastico
  19. the beech liking pruning was a mock tony, dont know how to smiley face in post quick reply, i just dont like them house side limbs, there not pretty, oooh lavly like!!
  20. youll have to forgive me i dont know where to go to do the funny icons, and haha lol is a bit facebook for my liking, only randomly do i use it,
  21. i thought beech liked being heavily pruned
  22. wonder if tree was there before house, and if so what surrounded it, looks like it had neighbours at some point in time, what do you reckon caused the imbalance/lean of trunk think that would be a work in progress to get that re-balanced,hard to see reduction points from pic, initially i entertained walloping the three limbs off to eleviate the lobsidedness and then allow remainding crwn to fill the space and be tad more 'aesthetically' pleasing
  23. force flow now thats a new term, i learnt all about stress cones last week with a man with a touch of aggressive turrets, kept shouting at us, wish i could adopt the same effectiveness with such outbursts myself, force flow???
  24. i would not brace that tree, not fond of bracing, however i would have huge concerns as to the extent of decay on the cuts of the high pruning thats been done house side, and is there anything needed to be acknowledge in the trunk ribs on the compression side looks like its trying to make bit of a statement tbh
  25. timberwolf!!!! err well yeah its a 1995 entec 30dh, cracking chipper, just keep blades sharp, and im laughing, had it near on ten year now, and i chip into a 1990 transit, cab resprayed new arches blah blah, does the job dont look to bad, got private plate on it so unless you know the old style transit faces you wouldnt know, i hammerite the body every year and lol the customers say oooh new van must be doing well,.
