  1. Are the little jcbs as bad with the full length door. I have seen the climb in the tub job that is out of the question I am 6ft 4 and 17 stone. Do you find hydrostatic the way to go. I am unlikely to take it far on the road so road speed not really important. I was thinking torque converter tougher and more reliable than hydrostatic but can see hydrostatic could be easier to use.
  2. Local dealer has a mint jcb 525-50 coming in they supplied and serviced it to john lewis group 2009 2000 hrs 20k
  3. Thats what put me off the 627 it must have been in cow muck to rot the rubbers off. The boom was squeeking in and out and the grease nipples were all dry. Every time it got serviced someone wrote it in marker pen on the machine but the last date was 2009
  4. Genius I never thought of that. If you need little ball joints for ride on mower I have boxes of different ones but nothing as huge as the ones on the tele.
  5. I think repairing, adjusting, servicing the pussy valve would be cheaper than a new engine and unlikely to render a 20k machine scrap but I could stand corrected.
  6. Probably like most auctions 100's of working lads on a day out about 100 serious players and a handfull of millionaires bidding their own stuff up. Its got hrs to run yet and often they extend the time if the item is getting bids.
  7. We have some bags of kindling that were made last year but were not bone dry and have some light mould on the surface. Some of the bags look fine but are made from poplar which some of our larger customers have turned down. We are asking £1.45 + vat ea we have about 450 bags available. Our top quality stuff is £1.80 + vat but we cant keep up at the moment when we get in front we will be taking orders for the autumn if any one is interested.
  8. The 627 was a cattle farmer who deals thaem as a side line. No warranty and no service. Your 741 sounds cheap where did you find it are there anymore. There is a 730 nr me with 5000 hrs 2001 even thats 15k from a main dealer.
  9. I think what he is saying is you could say you put it in the chipper but if you put it in the car instead they would have no way of proving it. Currently it would be bright red.
  10. Bit of a long shot but I need more railway sleepers for the yard the last outfit delivered the first load then tried to jack the price up. Because I shopped around they now refuse to return my calls. I can organise transport if anyone knows who to contact.
  11. Thanks for all the replies so far I have been looking for a while and talking to owners you can wear a 20 inch tyre out in 2500 hrs especially on concrete. As you say cant really tell the hrs. What would cause the track rod end rubbers to rot so badly ?
  12. Does this cover more than one vehicle. I have cover for 2 days free abroad if I contact them but just hate the whole ringing call centres thing so they can try and sell you something else. I like the idea of your covered abroad period. I think for 2 weeks cover in france AA wanted and extra £90 ea time.
  13. You can get wire brushes made from brass (a bit softer ) or try a bit of wire wool.
  14. We got dipped about 5 years ago in Devon and had a friendly chat with the vosa man after the truck was cleared. I think he said 15% but that was before they became self funding I would imagine points make prizes for them now I thought best not to mention as things must of changed in 5 years.
  15. Any advice appreciated. I am looking for a compact tele or loadall about 2500kg lift no more than 3000kg as too big. I looked at a 2005 manitou 627 the original tyres were just worn out but the hour clock was bust so estimated 4000hrs. I was warned by the main dealer track rod ends were expensive and I found the front ones worn out with about 6mm of wear. Does anyone know how much they are . The rear ones were just ok but the rubber covers were shot on all four. I found a tiny bit of wear on one lift ram pin. the alternator was loose and chattering on the bracket. I could hear something in the exhaust silencer loose. a few of the lights did not work. The coolant header tank was brim full which could indicate it blows the coolant off. Otherwise it was straight. The price was 15k I walked away as I had not looked at any others to compare but a week later I wonder if I have looked a gift horse in the mouth new they are about 45k as far as I know. A set of tyres is around £1500.00 I may go for something like a jcb 526 a bit bigger but simpler and less to go wrong.
  16. After 15 years un broken membership I find I am a valued gold member. This basically means I am on their mug list and they think I am paying double this year. I need recovery on three vehicles including vans and often trailers. In southern ireland at least once a year. Two years ago I kept it down to £75 but latest bill is £150. What deals have other people found. I like the AA blanket cover as I change vehicles often.
  17. If there is nothing left in the whole I have little 10 tonne rams I think they are made by enerpac about 2.5 inches high extending to about 4". I use a hydraulic hand pump. when the ram grips the hole put a lifting strop round it. you can either use a scaffold pipe for leverage or forklift/ digger . If the footings are weak they sometimes break in half but that just helps if you dig out.
  18. I got dipped last year in a new discovery getting off the ferry from southern Ireland. I was running on fumes they poked around so much I thought they were going to hook out the sender unit. They gave up in the end and let me go. One thing worth a mention is when they deliver white and red in the same tanker they purge the line before delivery which mixes a bit of red with a bit of white. For this reason customs allow something like 5% red before they even think about a prosecution.
  19. Are you a single parent if so may be the grand parents could help. The other option is drop them off but get a child minder to collect and look after till 5pm. If you have a wife get her a small car its cheaper than taking time off work.
  20. A side line to something else that earns proper money.
  21. Dept work and pensions I think. Just in case you forgot not to sign on
  22. Gather info like how long your existing shed has been there and any proof if possible. Take photos of everything before you start especially if you knock it down. I have built sheds on a budget but in hindsight wish I had coughed the money for a proper job.
  23. Geoff I sat on a gonad this morning getting in a hilux its swollen like a very large wellsommer egg I get me camera On a serious note I hope that heals well for you Jams. A timely warning for everyone hedges always look safer than they are.
  24. Its hard balancing life and work. I have been in a position with lots of big jobs and knackered kit. I have also had big toys and no work. Best to be somewhere in the middle. The new truck looks tidy and can be left on the drive if you fancy skiving off for a few days in the summer. Good luck with the future I am sure things will come right with your positive attitude. I like nice toys and big houses and not the least bit interested in the negative opinion of others I earnt it I enjoy it.
  25. You may of answered your own question. I would look for a hilux double cab possibly a mk5 . Just my opinion but the rest cant touch them
