  1. If the miles are reasonable and no rust and the rest is tidy I would look for a good engine £1000 - £1700 things come in threes and you are through it now at least it's not a Land Rover.
  2. It was good 10 years ago now it's not. There is still lots of good honest people on there but the muppets spoil it for the rest. We did have nice little business running but the conditions and fees coupled with courier fees doubling over night killed it so we knocked it on the head. That's why she concentrates on kindling now.
  3. I have a long term friend who owns Taylor and stokes in Andover .Top quality work but won't be the cheapest. If I need anything done I always use them. They tend to be on bigger jobs like two storey extensions. Mr stokes is probably the best brick layer around Andover and Nigel is top knotch carpenter the rest they get in as subbies.
  4. I bought a nice shiney d4 after a year it was like the flint stones. Needed feet out the bottom to make it go monumental farce even Landrover dealer appeared embarrassed and you can't get more hard faced than them. I was a Landrover man but won't touch the newer stuff now with a barge pole. The landcruiser is a little dull but will last 20 years and 400k without missing a beat.
  5. It's got a sort of Renault espace look about it. Are they BL door handles that have fitted everything including Morris marina, maestro and discovery.
  6. Serviced and changed the oil on a lister Genset yesterday and afterwards had no oil pressure at the pressure gauge. The other banjos on the side of the block show good pressure but the tapping on the engine that supplies the gauge and fuel pump nothing. The oil that dribbled out the injection pump looked a bit black and thick so thinking that this has been a long term problem and we just tipped the balance. Job is 50 miles away and I did not have a compressor on board to blow down the oil way. Never come across a blocked oil gallery before especially on a standby or am I over looking something really obvious.
  7. I had you down as older than me jon
  8. I can remember getting four but after a year of looking after them they seemed to suffer from prolapse and I can remember thinking it would have been kinder to put them down and get some normal hens. May have just been unlucky but have a feeling being cooped up during their early lives their insides don't develop properly then when they run round the yard everything falls out. bit like me in me shorts
  9. I tend to put smallish generators on big trailers as I have a knack for never getting the nose weight right but a big trailer is more forgiving and you have more room to pull it back with a ratchet strap when you are a mile up the road. I have been running a new 16 ft Brian James for about 18 months . Well designed and easy to live with but not sure on strength of build yet. I don't use them as much as I used to. I like the lower deck height with rubber suspension but prefer the ride with proper springs.
  10. Looking for a few days away to do attractions in Manchester next week half term Monday to Friday or few days as available we are flexible. Will leave it spotless any ideas ?
  11. We were discussing this the other day. I think there is a lot of people who use fire pits etc but don't have experience of an indoor fire. Often they just buy kindling to burn on it as have struggled in the past to burn nice logs. Got us thinking that 6x3x1 pine off cuts would be ideal. Easy to burn and bright even when u have had to many tinnies. I think the key might be printed bags which leads the buying decision.
  12. I thought the idea of staff and employees paying national insurance apart from the obvious is that should they become ill after three days they would get a reduced income that would not come out of the company purse. I bet mps still get full money if they break an ankle good of them to pull up another draw bridge. You can still answer the phone make the coffee and maintain kit with a broken ankle.
  13. Disco 2 auto revvy and a bit gutless. If you get a good one will be more reliable and cheaper to run but the disco 3 is light years better to drive. The disco 2 is a bit of a dinosaur with its design roots back in 1990
  14. Ours are 40x50 where roughly are u in the country.
  15. I am sure it's not the case but it tickled my sense of humour.
  16. Thanks for the posts some very valid points that never even crossed my mind. We have produced kindling for 6 years and never even considered that it could be a reducing market just warm weather. We will carry on producing for our regular customers making to order with a surplus of stock. Run as always as a side line and see what the winter brings. We had more demand than we could cope with when there was no timber about and the power stations were paid a subsidy to burn it. It's possible the abundance of timber has reduced the cost of a bag of kindling but this could go the other way during a long cold winter. Who knows but I look forward to finding out
  17. 11 women have conceived after being massaged by the Bowen guy
  18. It is if we make it for you Jon you just got to double the price and hold it up in front of the customer
  19. If anyone does want kindling some distance away the cheapest way to transport is 24 pallets on an arctic often this gets the pallet rate down to £20 ea.
  20. I keep the good stuff for my own fire especially now we stopped log sales. There are plenty of tight fisted people about to pay good money for the crap if it looks cheap
  21. Yes when I looked last autumn the sheds and pound land worked out at about £1.60 per kilo. We have a few coal suppliers who still order 5000 bags a year and sell the lot so I don't think its declining that much. Log merchants are normally surprised how much they sell over a winter especially if it's neat and clean. You won't get rich on the profit but you don't need to break your back for it either why let Aldi have the cash.
  22. Could be. Also do people light their fires more now using briquettes like hotmax and Verdo. We still have a good steady business but would not be surprised if it did not grow this winter. On the other hand if it's cold I would not be surprised if it went nuts.
  23. I had mixed results some burnt as well as beech and some was a bit of a waste of time not sure why. I would imagine you need to get it seasoned and use it before it goes past. I would give a sample a try before storing too much.
  24. Have you noticed the demand for kindling has dropped in the last two years ? . Do you think the discounters have killed it more than the weather. I never really considered this idea as I didn't think the public really shopped around for the best price on sticks as it's not a weekly purchase. I would imagine most of my bags get purchased with a delivery of logs as it's convenient and saves carrying home. I noticed years ago aldi etc have a flurry of kindling in October then it dries up and sells out so may be they got stuck with it this year.
  25. If it is cold I think the whole trade will be caught with trousers down again like in 2010 do you remember the anyone know where I can get some cord ? Threads. Some of my generator customers think we will have a cold one. I think it will be the same as the other years if it's cold we will sell out if it's not we wont
