  1. seen it working looks a good unit, does it suit your method of working. I cut and season cord wood up to 8" in 4ft long then process inc splitter. Over 8" I billet them and then process out without splitter when seasoned. The dalen would be too good for billets. If you have a good concrete hard standing and a machine with bucket then the dalen would be the way to go.
  2. I seem to remember the 900 is 90hp ok in the forest but will struggle if you try to haul timber on a trailer on the road. With a bigger engine you tend to change gear less which in turn saves the gearbox.
  3. Do you think it will dry that quick. Thats how I do my large trunks it would not suprise me as it does seem to dry fast but i put it down to the summer sun. Not sure if it would work so well in autumn.
  4. I need to get an infeed conveyor belt for my 2x processor anyone found a company that understands the requirement. The genuine is £185 + £20 carriage plus vat. It also occured to me that most of the parts have come out of a standard part bin some where. Between us we should be able to build up a database and share experience of matching parts. Example I needed drive shaft joints once for a kawasaki mule they were £385 per shaft but got the joint kits from a motor factor for £12 total cost £24
  5. If you want to keep your stove alight all night try this. When its healthy and glowing before bed take the ash pan and sprinkle over fire. Get up in morning and the middle of your fire should be glowing just add more wood and open vents.
  6. we have a hunter thought it was good surprised to here its on the no list. found the air wash and riddle sys good in the bottom. I like the look of that esse stove you can see the fire well.
  7. I think you hit the nail on your head i try only to buy in beech or similar. People seem over the moon with it and I dont feel I have to compete with people who deliver a trailer full of wet mixed crap . Its hard work least you should expect is to make a living at it.
  8. I dont know if this is viable but would this be any good to you
  9. Part of the problem is there is a high demand and very little profit in logs. Some people are still turning it out for no money because they got the wood free. If you get rid of the wishey washey bits there will be no one left selling logs. The only people happy with there margin seem to be those that dont specify the size of load other than double or single:sneaky2: or 1 cubic in a bag that measures 800 x 800 x800 which by my calcs is half a cubic metre.
  10. If you have pictures of you making the logs put them on Do you have a land line as well as a mobile even if it has an answer phone.
  11. The jappa I think is well over priced. The other one seems expensive as well. The finance company took a chance at making some money on the repayments and it went pear shaped their loss somebody elses gain. I would think 5k each more like it. Both machines are out of warranty so all those first few hr breakages will be out of our pockets. Good luck to whoever buys them.
  12. I think they go to Ibiza or Corfu now
  13. I thought either elder or Alder one of them wont burn its like asbestos. I remember it always has a small circle in the middle ? . May be a different species altogether and I am barking up the wrong tree. Thought it worth mentioning before filling the yard.
  14. This is going to sound really sad but i know I have the original sales leaflet. I am 90 % sure I have a tractor mag from about 5 years ago that did a review for buying second hand and it was very good. Your welcome to have a look if your near by or I will look it out so you can get a back issue. Had it in the back of my mind we may end up with one of these as they are alot cheaper than a mog.
  15. By the time we finish this poster winter will be over:001_smile: It did occur to me that if he prints them himself he can print smaller quantities and tweak the price as he goes along. Especially if the price of oil stays low and we have a mild winter.
  16. I think there should be a guide for what constitutes a good customer. People including ourselves dont always realise what makes others lives easier. For instance most customers assume that you only do fire wood from September onwards and that before that time you are to busy felling trees. But it must be 30% quicker and easier to process and deliver firewood on hard ground in mild weather in daylight. Perhaps I should start a new thread titled the good customer guide
  17. Marko I would not worry too much about anyone coming round to measure and count your logs. The civil servants have better things to do putting the country back together and covering up their expences to persecute small businesses. If I delivered to a customer and got a 20 minute interigation and found they had a moisture meter I would mark them in my mind as odd. Firewood is low profit and hard work lets be thankful there is enough people prepared to meet the demand. Is that guide for real or is it a spoof you found online
  18. Only about a third of the cord I get in is below 10". That is part of the problem. The cord around 8" in diameter I cut into 1200mm lenghts and leave for a year in the sun. This processes out nice and dry. Around 10" and over still too wet after two years so I cut 1200 lenghts into billets and leave to season which happens very quickly. Now if I had a bigger machine I could process 60% of my cord but most of it would be too wet so would have to season in a heap and pick it up for delivery.
  19. I am thinking bars that stop between cuts mean less wear and chain oil use. Hydraulic motors more reliable but expensive if they go wrong. Belts are crude but you can keep them on the shelf when they are only £5 ea. I think the 1x37 may be a much better machine than my 2x . Before making a decision I will try and see a newer Hakki.
  20. Used them for 16 years never done me any harm. very reliable easy to work on and dirt cheap for spares. Trick is to buy them when someone has replaced 95% of the parts then out them 3 years later. Did you say you may have one for sale soon ?
  21. Barnsley Bob how much do you sell two solid cubic metres of firewood for without any airspace ?
  22. The prices went up because the pound lost value. But I think the pound has recovered by about 15% . so you can tell what I am thinking. If the pound stays weak it makes a good opportunity for someone to make in uk and export
  23. road tax less than 10% gets spent on roads licences and permits cost vertually nothing Where does all the money go simple 2.6 million people on the dole 3 million sickness and disability the bill for that now comes to more than all the income tax collected in the country. I have no problem with the disabled or people collecting short term unemployment benefits. But lets face it working classes are easy target we are too busy and nackard to fight back. I agree if you dont need the licence dont pay otherwise they will invent a tax for breathing.
  24. Thinking of renewing my 9 year old 2x wood processor . should i buy another haki now they are over 8k. I have had good service on parts but am thinking of moving a bit more up market maybe a machine with out belts. The binderberger looks a good machine but at 20-30k too much the dalen at £12,500.00 looks possible Bgu 370 at £7995.00 looks good value. Anyone had experience of any other machines. Any that should be avoided ?
