  1. Hi Mate I got a decent engine for our splitter. I dont have one for sale. You should be able to fall over them on ebay and farm sales. A good way to get an engine is to buy a complete road saw they sell cheap.
  2. I think that ebay listing is spot on. It explains the difference between different bag sizes. It is also honest and up front about the logs being un seasoned.
  3. You are right. For years we sold 250 tonnes a year. The year I planned to do 500 tonnes I did not have the time as we were making kindling. I produced 150 tonnes and was kicking myself until we had that mild winter and sold 75 tonnes what a lucky escape. Running logs as side line and running out early makes a lot of sense. If some of your customer go elsewhere for their last load of the winter they will more than likely get wet rubbish and come back to you the following year and stock up.
  4. I can get nearly 5 of those bags in my 2cu metre tipped load. Really annoying when people make out those bags are the same size. Even more annoying when they argue the toss and cant even add up. The 800mm bags look tiny the 750mm must be like barrow bags.
  5. I am sure your heart will be fine Jon may be get them to test your liver while you are there. If caught early it can recover
  6. If You ran out in November he has nothing to worry about anyway
  7. Your engine is designed for a generator or water pump. You need a parallel shaft with key way. May be easier to sell engine and buy another. I got a nice 11hp for £50 for our splitter 3 years ago must get round to changing the oil.
  8. With the tub on mine weighed 1800kg and the gross was 2500kg
  9. We bought a used hp 2x and it was a pita for the first 6 months because I think someone had the best out of it. After spending £800 overhauling it served us well for 5 years. Dont pay too much for used machine especially if its had a life. I would prefer a nice one for 6k rather than a wreck for 3k. Best way to start is get a price for a new one and work back.
  10. Because you can buy online local dealers have to step up and provide a comparable service. I expect to pay more at a shop but not 40% more. I try to use local dealers but If the service, prices, stock level and attitude are pants I go online . Sales of small generators became impossible for us about 6 years ago so we packed it in, its just life unfortunately.
  11. A lone cyclist and motorcyclist and bits of wood laying on the ground. An ideal opportunity to get me own back for all the mirrors and scrapes down my Landcruiser caused by ignorant couriers pushing through small gaps.
  12. When I say hedge its 20ft high in places and mixed with sycamore, rose hips, dog thorn, black thorn and Elder etc. May have given the wrong impression with garden hedge. I have hundreds of feet of this and it grows like mad.
  13. Yeah but with £750 on the table they will be there in 15 minutes
  14. woops forgot to up load
  15. Had this running on lpg a few years ago.
  16. Once kindled if left in the wind will dry fast cover the top. How do you know which pallets have been treated. We dont use pallets because you cant tell which have been. If the EA show up all your stock goes to land fill.
  17. I used to look at it this way. But people are either going to sit on it for a year or try and burn it green and not get much out of it. If its green you have not had money tied up in it long. Knock £10 off space in the yard, their money in your pocket less to borrow to buy your cord this year.
  18. I bought a fantastic camera from maplins superb vision even at night until I noticed all the traffic overtaking on the inside. Make sure you get a mirror view camera in the end I got one from halfords for £15 as a stop gap but its been great so still on there.
  19. Yes but you cant blame people if you dont ask dont get. There is a lot of people on the net desperate to pass on their knowledge to their virtual friends. If someone is prepared to lie face down in the mud so you dont get mud on your boots should you stop them.
  20. Good way of looking at it. I think you are better with a machine that pays for it self in two years rather than a top of the range that takes twenty.
  21. First come first serve. Not sure there is alot of loyalty from customers unless logs are in short supply. If there is a glut they will shop around.
  22. Would be a good machine for you. Maybe even a 1x42 seen some of them for sale used. Posch and Palax probably better made but alot more money. A Dalen would be on my short list as its good at large twisted timber and well made all hyd machine and not stupid money. Any machine you buy will be happiest processing 2" below its max cap imo. Really big machines are great for big cord but tend to make a mess of 8" cordwood and smash it to pieces. May be worth talking to Theocus from his picks he has his dalen well set up.
  23. Yes your right but I doubt there is many people stocking up and getting ready for next winter. I bet there is a few that have run out of their bargain logs they bought in November.
  24. Its been dead all winter. I thought I was going to get stuck with a load of 18 month seasoned logs but last 2 weeks has been mad busy. Luckily the cold snap has dragged on otherwise it would have been a different story. I am guessing alot of people have run out and we are hearing some horror stories. Another week or so and I will be out.
  25. I have a similar tunnel and the poly is now 10 years old and still good. Made by visqueen or similar.
