  1. some one who i used to work with cut his hand with a 020 and its a nasty thing blood every where etc, always makes me think about what can happen if something goes wrong, hope the bloke is ok, its a bit of a eye opener on how dangerous our job is.
  2. hi just out of curiosity when are you all putting up your trees? as i have had to put 1 up today in halesowen due to them having a early light switch on and the rest of the trees start to go up the 15th nov. i know its a bit early but makes a change from cutting them down but this has to be the earliest ive ever put a christmas tree up. its normally after remberance sunday we start heres a few pics anyway cheers simon
  3. hi thanks for the advise think ive opened a can of worms with heave and trees never put much thought into it as never had it any one ask the question before. ive found a few articles about it through google and 1 says it can only cause problems if tree was established before property was build copy below Soil Heaving (On clay soils only). can occur when an old tree dies - or is felled. The water content of the surrounding soil increases, thereby swelling the clay soils. This can affect surrounding buildings, by applying pressure to walls and solid floors, or even lifting the foundations. ‘Heave’ is only a problem if the tree had been established for a significant time before the building was constructed. so think im going to pass the information back to the customer and let them make the decision there selves and state that im unable to make a professional opinion. thanks again simon
  4. Hi Ive had a customer email me to day accepting a quote for a jod i quoted a few weeks ago. the main part of the job was to dismantle a mature eucalyptus tree aprox 60-70 ft and about 1.2m in diameter. The tree is only about 10ft from there house and they have asked me about the effect it could have on the foundations of the house after removing the tree and do they risk getting subsidence. there is no sign of subsidence on the house but the last thing i would want to do is give the wrong advise does any one have any knowledge on this, past experience or any recomandations? many thanks in advanced simon
  5. i got it all from servicemetals some one on here recommended me to them, really helpful there the measured up and every thing all i had to do was assemble and bolt together heres a few pics of it coming together. most of the jobs i do are on the weekend as i currently work full time for a local council, im just working my way up investing in kit as i earn so hopefully i can go at it full time sooner or later.
  6. heres how i started doing my weekend jobs god knows how i dident get pulled but did that most weekends till i could afford a truck. the 2nd pic is my current setup just build the sides up a few weeks ago still needs a few finishing bits and sign righting up
  7. my work did that when they put me through my 7.5t licence. they also took some one to court who left after 2 weeks of passing his test. if there willing to pay for the training its only fair they get there investment back
  8. hi if you are willing post to europe make sure you post via a online trackable postal service eg dhl or ups and only accept paypal and you should be covered. i use parcels2go to send all my large items and anything overseas loads cheaper than the post office
  9. Which sections are you doing the exam on? As mine was broke down to 3 exams
  10. some one will correct me if im wrong but i think a cabstar can legally carry 1.7 ton or there about
  11. the back is 295 cm by 180 cm measured it up yesterday as getting some alloy sides made up for mine.
  12. if you've got a car get a towbar fitted and buy a trailer thats how i started doing the odd job on weekends, after a few years and a lot of graft worked my way up to a truck and chipper. the hardest and most expensive part of the job is getting rid off rubbish
  13. how did u fine the retest? as mine is due next year ive been doing the rfs part time so hopefully its all still fresh in my head
  14. i had to have a tfcc tear repair in my right wrist very similar type of opp, i was off for the best part of 4 1/2 months, i was unable to do anything for 4 weeks after op and was unable to do anything pisical for 12 weeks, but as i worked for the council they wouldn't let me back till i passed a medical through the work doctor. its been 9 months now and its still not 100% but loads better than before op if you have the op make sure you follow the doctors advise with phisco etc
  15. im hopping to get it sorted asap theres no chance of pin popping out as the bit that goes through the ram is larger than the hole. ive tried tipmaster and they have changed there deign and dont think they still do the parts anymore, worst case i will have to get 1 fabricated would still like to know tho how its should be as standard the tipper was on it from new its a 2003 52 reg so should be fairly common, tipmaster are not shure how ot should be but the new ones dont have bolts just shaft with washer and split pin to hold it all in place but they wont fit mine un less i drill the housing to size
  16. That idea with the washer might work def easer that replacing the shaft ive been greasing and soaking everything with wd40 already, but someone has defiantly been messing as it looks like someone has tryed to prop the tipper up in the past with some some bricks right next to the hinge at the back and slightly dented the rails on the tipper but nothing bad. thats the prob when buying second hand, but cant complain as i got it cheap just means a bit of tinkering to get everything sorted
  17. i dont think ill be able to weld it as it has shered off about 1-2 mm in side the housing, im guessing the last owner has never greased the rams etc as the pin is siezed solid through the top of the ram. looks like its going to be a pig to sort out as the shaft that goes through the ram is bigger than the hole for the thread so wont just knock out the whole assembly will need to be striping down just want to try and get the right parts before i attack it
  18. hi ive brought a cabstar a few weeks ago and the outer day while tipping off i noticed what looks like a sheered bolt where the top of the ram is. ive phoned tipmaster and they wasnt really much help, the bloke on the phone said there was only 1 nut on the pin and a split pin on the outer side, but that doent sound right so im hopping some one on hear with a cabstar with a tipmaster tipper could have a look at there tipper next time they tip off and let me know how theres is attached as i need to get this sorted asap. also if pos i would really appreciate a pic so i can send it to tipmaster many thanks in advance simon
  19. ive never used this harness before but i used to work with someone who had 1 and im sure he had some prusic cord tied between the the 2 d's. not shure how safe that is but you might be able to use the bridge of a dragon fly/butter fly harness.
  20. ive used both oils on my stihl saws and never had any problems the only difference is the colour in my opinion
  21. auto trader are offering a telesafe service so you dont have to give your own number to buyers and to try and stop canvassers etc the number is basically a unique number for you add heres a link from the auto trader web sit explaining it http://www.autotrader.co.uk/editorial/common/ola/what-is-telesafe-buyers.jsp
  22. i did my isa cert arborist a few years ago and it wasn't that hard imo just read the book cover to cover a few times and swatted up on tree id, pests and diseases the tpos. the tree worker 1 was only half the exam i think and only covered the basics. dont think it covers soils, biology etc just h&s, climbing and every day things like felling cuts ets the exam is mult choice and i think anyone whos in the trade who has the ability to learn from self study should be ok, i failed the exam 1st time but as i got over 70% total only had the do the module i failed on. and the 1st retest is free if i rember right
  23. hi i buy and sell loads on ebay make sure you report him to ebay as they will still charge him the final price fee which works out at about 10% of the final value up to a max of £40, so he will gets stuck with the fees and wont be able to relist for free, i know it wont help you but at least it will make him think twice about doing the same again.
  24. hi thanks for info just been checking out there website and looks promising, any ideas how much the materials cost? thanks simon
  25. hi ive just brought a nissan cabstar swb and want to get some alloy high sides made for it. ideally i want it made out of alloy planks. does anyone know where the best place to buy the materials from to do it myself and rough costs, or recommend anyone whos prices are reasonable. im based in the midlands but travel up to north wales quite often so anywhere between the 2 would be ideal. many thanks simon
