  1. As I understand it, using a rigging rope with stretch in it will mean that the soft shackle made of dyneema wouldn't be shock loaded.
  2. The krabs had been bought some time before the rest of his kit was due to be inspected, when his kit was due they were just added into his kit. Graphite or wd40 wouldn't help in this case as it is the twisting out of line that makes them stick, nothing else. The real concern here is that DMM say there is nothing wrong with them and two of our loler inspectors won't pass them.
  3. Hi, Someone who I work with has had five karabiners failed by our loler inspector. The krabs are all new DMM ones of the same type that have never been used. They were failed because you can just, and some only just, get the gate to stick open if you twist it while closing it slowly. As they hadn't been used they were sent back to DMM who returned them and said they were fine, nothing wrong with them but our inspector still won't pass them. Has anyone else had this problem?
  4. Did think about this before hand, maybe just try bigger charges next time...... Bigger, noisier, must be better!!!
  5. Had a go with this today, still needs a little fine tuning and not at all practical. Sorry, won't be discussing what went into making it happen so please don't ask, nothing illegal, just don't think this is the place to discuss it.
  6. First, I was just following on from a previous post getting what could easily be wrong advice about electricity. Secondly, I am fully aware of the insulation's role and thirdly, I already have his number thank you but I didn't think he was back from holiday yet. I was just showing how easy it can be to incorrectly identify equipment by pictures and with out seeing the whole set up.
  7. All pictures were taken in North Norfolk, Kelling, near Holt and North Walsham. It is a very odd arrangement, I guess things have been moved around and this was cheaper than a complete rebuild. In the last picture the 11kv is running in the lower conductor for eight spans to a ground mounted transformer that supplies a hospital and the open phase lv that runs back along the same eight spans and runs off to other nearby houses. I would guess the transformer used to be on the pole in the last picture and just supplied the houses. The hospital was built and due to voltage drop / three phase demand etc. they added the under slung 11kv to the gm tx and fed the lv back along the existing lv conductors to save money.
  8. I agree!!! This is 11kv running above lv And this is open phase lv running above 11kv If not 100% sure, don't guess!!! Not worth the risk.
  9. Anyone care to guess what wires these are and if it's ok to work close to them?
  10. Hi, Does anyone have an idea as to what make this saw is? The person selling it says he is unsure what make it is, cheap chinese saw possibly? Stuart.
  11. Here's what I came up with.....
  12. There are viruses and security holes that affect apple products, you just don't have a program to tell you if it is happening. A lot of viruses and the security vulnerabilities that affect both windows and mac do not wipe your files, make porn pop ups appear or even flash up on the screen telling you that you have a virus. They allow access to your computer across your network or the internet, to steal data for identity theft etc. use your computer for forwarding spam and other internet attacks such as 'denial of service' attacks aimed at web and dns servers. Like a real virus, just because you can't see it doesn't mean its not there.
  13. There are a few utility poles in my area that have steps on them, but I would agree it looks like BT cable from the picture. Get someone to check properly, not by a picture as we already have two different views. Stuart.
  14. I thought the test for husqvarna saws was to apply full throttle then apply chain brake, and for Stihl was to apply brake and then full throttle for three seconds.
  15. I thought the 346 with the orange clutch cover had a 46cc engine and the 346xp with the silver cover has a 50cc engine. Apart from that I believe they are the same. Stuart.
  16. I stripped the threads on mine to. I used epoxy to glue mine back in after filling the part the grub screw holds to give it a key. Its not structural, hasn't moved and has since been lolered.
  17. Well, completed the 'Hanworth half marathon' today, my first one. Very heavy rain / thunder storm for the first 40 minutes then dried out. My garmin watch made it 12.8 miles and my time was 2 hours 11 minutes. Very happy with the time, just had to make it round after telling everyone I was entering.
  18. Three weeks ago the furthest I had ran was five miles so 13 miles is a bit of a step up. I think a bit more preparation time would have been better, but at least it will be challenging!!
  19. Ran 9 miles in 1 hour 37 yesterday. Just need to find another 4 miles from somewhere on the 24th June!!
  20. My longest run tonight, since starting about a year ago, 7 miles in 1 hour 12 minutes. Been told there is a half marathon taking place about 3 miles from my house at the end of June, considering having a go.
  21. When the firearms officer came round to mine, both the first time and for the renewal, he was only here a maximum of ten minutes.
  22. Memory map offers download a free trial on their homepage.
  23. Actually I know of one piece of line which is 11kv in a 'bundled fashion', looks like normal ABC but more loosely wound, and have been told of one more in our area. It is unusual though. Stuart.
  24. I got the dyneema kit yesterday, have yet too try it out, but certainly looks to be an improvement. Couldn't see any strength rating or ce numbers on the sling or metal ring though, unless I missed it.
